The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 439: Chapter 439: To Take Nathalie Quinlan_1

Adelle Wafford and Derliand Gober’s faces changed simultaneously.

Mr. Avalon is taking on students?!

Hadn’t he stopped mentoring students for several years?

Out of everyone, Adelle Wafford’s face was the hardest to look at. She was not afraid of Nathalie Quinlan choosing the Chinese Medicine department, as it had long been in decline. Even if Nathalie went to study Chinese Medicine, she wouldn’t make much of a name for herself.

However, if Mr. Avalon came out of retirement to take Nathalie under his wing, the situation would become very different.

In recent years, her ability to suppress the Chinese Medicine department was also due to Mr. Avalon’s seclusion. With Mr. Avalon returning, the status of the Chinese Medicine department in Tsinghua University would once again change.

Her mood was terrible. She felt a suffocating pressure in her chest, unable to rise, fall or be expelled. Her sharp eyes were fixed on Nathalie, unable to understand what background Nathalie had to actually be able to prompt Mr. Avalon to come out of retirement.

”Mr. Avalon is taking on students?” whispered Derliand Gober, his face equally troubled, quietly lowering his voice beside her.

Adelle Wafford didn’t answer him but kept her eyes focused on the center of the classroom. In a bad mood, her attitude was naturally unpleasant, ”Whether he is or isn’t, can’t Professor Gober see for himself?”

She was furious, and Derliand Gober glanced at her, seeing the anxious and embarrassed look on her face. He had been embarrassed himself, but now, he unexpectedly found a point of equilibrium.

He withdrew his line of sight and silently watched the girl at the center of the room.

With Mr. Avalon’s appearance, his earlier remarks seemed laughable, but while he was humiliated, Adelle Wafford was even more embarrassed than him.

It’s the comparisons people dread.

Once there’s a comparison, even the embarrassment seems less uncomfortable.

...

Shawn Norton hadn’t expected he would say the words about taking disciples, more nervous than Nathalie Quinlan. He hurriedly asked, ”You want to take in Nathalie?”

”That will depend on whether she is willing to follow me and study Chinese Medicine.”

The elder’s eyes were spirited and clear, though speckled with the confusion of age. He stood with hands behind his back, turning his head toward Nathalie, with an inquiring look about her opinion, ”Studying Chinese Medicine is a complex and tedious task. Perhaps after years of study, you still won’t achieve much. But once you fully understand it, you will find its lively and interesting aspects. So, are you interested in studying Chinese Medicine?”

Nathalie was originally aiming for the Chinese Medicine department regardless of Mr. Avalon’s involvement. She would have chosen the Chinese Medicine department anyway. She responded concisely, ”Yes.”

Just one word, clear and decisive, without any shyness or needless chatter.

A hint of appreciation flickered in Mr. Avalon’s eyes. He lifted his head, smiling at Winston Sullivan, ”What are you waiting for? This year, our Chinese Medicine department has gained another student.”

”Ah. I’ll note it down right away.”

Winston Sullivan snapped back to his senses, immediately flipping through the student records and marking Nathalie’s name with a red check. After marking it, he could hardly contain his excitement, directly addressing Nathalie, ”Junior sister, rest assured. Once you report to us at the Chinese Medicine department, we will make every effort to nurture you and make sure you never regret your choice today!”

His call of ’junior sister’ fell, and the room went silent.

Shawn Norton was the first to recover, trying to smooth things over with a chuckle, ”Mr. Sullivan, you’re too excited. Nathalie is only a senior in high school, and according to the rules, she is simply a student of Tsinghua University, and you are a teacher. She should still respectfully address you as Mr. Sullivan.”

”Ah, it doesn’t matter,” Winston Sullivan said unconcernedly, dismissing all those messy regulations with a wave of his hand. His stern face revealing a casual smile, ”By the rules, she’s a student, and I am a teacher. But privately, since she’s the student my teacher just took on, calling her ’junior sister’ isn’t wrong.”

Shawn Norton: ”A student is still a student.”

He wasn’t purely rigid and obstinate. Knowing his behavior could cause controversy for Nathalie, he changed his tune and said, ”I understand, Mr. Norton. From now on, I will use the term ’junior sister’ privately, but in public, I am still her teacher.”
