The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 408: Chapter 408: It turns out that Nathalie also brought ’sweets’ for Mr. Zachmann_1

”I haven’t seen her in almost half a year. I don’t even know if she still remembers her grandfather. Has she been eating well in McKinney, has she lost weight, does she have any happy or unhappy things to share, and is there anyone to share them with her?”

As he spoke, he sighed deeply, his face filled with guilt, ”Ah! We found her, but we still haven’t taken good care of her. How can I face her mother after I’m gone?”

Leonardy Zachmann saw him getting so agitated that he started coughing again, walked over, and gently patted his back as he reproached, ”Dad, it’s not that we’re keeping you from going to McKinney, but look at your health. How can you travel there? If you want to go to McKinney, you need to recover fully first.”

Mr. Zachmann, disregarding everything, had insisted on taking an airplane to McKinney to recognize his kin half a year ago and ended up seriously ill afterward, lying in a nursing home for three months.

He had just recently gotten better.

At his age, going through that again might cause his health to break down completely.

”Nathalie definitely remembers you; she even sent you a gift, don’t you remember?”

Mr. Zachmann remembered the box he had received before and couldn’t help but smile, ”Remember? Of course, I remember. She sent me candy from McKinney. That child is so thoughtful! It must have been Audrick whispering in her ear, talking about how I take medicine every day, that made her send the candy. But there’s no shortage of candy in Beijing, she didn’t need to send something from so far away just for an old man like me...”

Leonardy Zachmann, while smoothing his back, went along with what he was saying, ”There’s candy everywhere in Beijing, yet you were still so happy to receive the candy Nathalie bought for you.”

”...”

Mr. Zachmann pursed his lips and said nothing more.

His heart felt sweet.

Could any candy bought from outside compare to the candy specially sent by his own granddaughter?

The fruit-flavored lozenges Nathalie had sent him didn’t have any packaging, just a glass jar containing about twenty or so, with no production date, manufacturer, and the like.

They looked like a product with no brand, no company, no origin.

But he would eat one after taking his medicine every day, and although he didn’t know if it was just his imagination, he always felt his health was getting better, his spirits were higher than before, and even his appetite had improved from the previous period!

Mr. Zachmann didn’t think too much about it, attributing it to the placebo effect.

Still preoccupied with Caryn Zachmann’s words, he turned to ask, ”Right, Caryn, you just mentioned you ran into Nathalie in Beijing. Then what? Are you sure it was her you saw? Could you have been mistaken? It’s only Sunday that No. 1 Middle School seniors have off, and today’s Saturday. They should still be in school; even if she came to play, she should have come tomorrow.”

Caryn Zachmann listened to them talk about the candy Nathalie had sent from McKinney as if it were a trivial matter and chuckled inwardly.

Only her grandpa and her dad treated Nathalie like a treasure.

She remembered her dad once mentioning casually that before he left McKinney, he had given Nathalie a gold card, a Citibank one with a credit limit of around 500 thousand dollars.

Nathalie, having received so much money, just turned around and sent Mr. Zachmann a jar of lozenges without even a production date!

If word got out, people would laugh their heads off.

Taking a deep breath and remembering what Celine Tucker told her about the porcelain theory, that Nathalie was different from a broken rock, there was no need for her to compare herself with Nathalie. Comparing herself with Nathalie would be bringing herself down a notch!

With that thought, Caryn Zachmann couldn’t be bothered to bring up the encounter with Nathalie at Nutziland Lane and simply said, ”I was out shopping with friends when I ran into her. She was alone when I saw her, said she was here to take an exam in Beijing. But she didn’t speak more than two sentences before she hastily left, claiming her friend was waiting for her outside.”
