The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 411: Chapter 411: Proud for a Lifetime or Seeking Backdoor Favors for Granddaughter_1

In the small garden, Mr. Zachmann had been sitting in his wheelchair for a long time, so long that his caretaker feared he might catch a cold and quietly went inside to fetch a blanket to drape over his legs, offering him comfort with hesitation, ”Mr. Zachmann, don’t be too upset. It’s normal for one child in a family to excel academically while another does not.”

”Both your eldest son and Miss Caryn are excellent students, so it’s fine if one child’s grades aren’t as good. You don’t need her to be exceedingly successful or wealthy in the future.”

Mr. Zachmann took the blanket on his own knees, looked down, and gave a bitter smile, ”You don’t understand, Nathalie’s situation is special. If she is to be with Amadeus in the future, academic qualifications are the very least of her requirements.”

The Yancey Family’s door isn’t so easily entered.

Besides, Amadeus himself has a rather special status in Beijing; once his fiancée is announced, who knows how many eyes will be fixated on Nathalie Quinlan. When he’s old and venerable, how much could he help her?

Count on Leonardy Zachmann?

He wasn’t so old as to be blind, he could see that his daughter-in-law did not welcome Nathalie, and Caryn was...

Mr. Zachmann, with a strong heart, quickly took out his phone after a brief period of thought, and with a determined decision in his heart, said, ”I’ll give a phone call to the Vice Principal of Tsinghua University.”

If need be to seek a backdoor, someone had to ask.

The younger generation lacked the necessary face; it was up to him to make that request.

*

Inside the office of Tsinghua University’s Vice Principal, he had just taken a sip of his tea to moisten his throat when his phone rang again.

”Vice Principal, your phone call.”

”I heard it.”

He quickly took another sip of tea, screwed on the lid, put down the cup, and hurriedly walked over to pick up the incessantly ringing phone on his desk.

Seeing the caller ID, he froze momentarily, his face expressing astonishment, ”Mr. Zachmann?”

He didn’t immediately understand, muttering to himself, ”Why is Mr. Zachmann calling me? Does the Zachmann Family have a young member participating in our university’s independent recruitment process?”

His memory told him that the younger members of the Zachmann Family were already in college, none of whom were in the critical senior year of high school. Thinking this, he cleared his throat before answering the call.

”Hello, Mr. Zachmann, what winds have blown to bring me a call from you. Yes, at the school, what can I do for you? Ah, that exam. The results are out, yes, they’re posted Online for everyone to check.”

”You want me to check a student’s results for you?”

The Vice Principal hesitated for a moment.

The results had just been released and were available Online; by merely entering the admission ticket number, anyone could check their own scores, yet Mr. Zachmann insisted on his assistance, which likely meant...

He’d encountered such situations before; as long as the scores weren’t too far off, giving an interview opportunity wasn’t out of the question.

”Alright, tell me the name of the student.”

The name was quickly relayed from the other end of the phone.

The Vice Principal doubted his hearing for a moment, ”You said... Nathalie Quinlan?”

There were other people in his office; not on speakerphone, his arm holding the phone was growing numb from discomfort. He walked briskly to the window and took deep breaths of fresh air to compose himself enough to listen to the person on the other end of the phone talk.

”You know her? How did she perform? She couldn’t have come last, could she? Vice Principal, she’s my granddaughter, lost for over a decade and only recently found. I owe her a great deal! I’m aware that her results might not have met expectations, but I understand that girl; she’s bright, just overwhelmed with too much during her senior year, perhaps not focusing on her studies.”

Mr. Zachmann, who had been proud all his life, found it particularly difficult to make this request, ”For my sake, could Tsinghua University give her a chance, regardless of the major, just to let her in...”
