Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station

”For example, phase weapons.”

The director replied to Chen Ming’s question: ”Phase weapons don’t need much explanation. They’re means to attack phase space from the normal universe, essentially sending things from the normal universe into phase space.

”Conversely, a ship in phase space might not need to use phase weapons, which is quite interesting.”

Chen Ming naturally asked, ”So how is the research on phase weapons progressing?”

”Ahead of phase ships.”

”Because when phase technology was newly developed, we suspected that the Mechanical Race already had phase ships. Although this news was just confirmed, we started researching phase weapons at the very first moment.”

Sending the ammunition or lasers fired by the weapon into phase space is indeed a way to enter phase space, although this is specifically for weapons.

Chen Ming wasn’t currently interested in sending phase weapons into phase space to trouble the phase giant beast, especially after witnessing the scene where the Mechanical Race’s phase weapon had no effect and was instead slapped to death by the phase giant beast.

”Is there anything else?”

”Yes, a communication device for phase space.”

The director was very familiar with all technologies related to phase and immediately explained this thing he had just mentioned to Chen Ming.

”Phase space is different from superspace; superspace can maintain stable contact with the normal universe environment.”

”But in phase space, ordinary communication systems suffer very frequent and severe interference.”

”To maintain stable contact between the normal universe and phase space, we previously came up with two methods to maintain normal communication.”

”One method is to construct a special environment using phase fields, connecting the normal universe and phase space, allowing internal devices to simultaneously exist in both environments.”

”Building a communication anchor point on this basis can ensure communication between the two spaces, similar to the effect of a superluminal communication base station.”

”The other is a device capable of transmitting sound to the phase universe.”

”The latter is of little significance. After being developed, it has made little progress, so we mainly research the former.”

The director said as much.

However, when Chen Ming heard about a device that can transmit sound into the phase universe, he couldn’t contain his excitement.

This was exactly what he needed at the moment.

”Can I see that device for transmitting sound?”

”The device isn’t here, but I can have someone send it to you. Do you need it now?”

”If it can be expedited, that would be best.”

”Okay.”

The director agreed and immediately contacted someone to send the device over to Chen Ming.

After clearing things up with the person, he said to Chen Ming: ”Actually, as long as it’s not humans entering phase space, there are several other methods.”

”For instance, we have a technology that directly sends objects into phase space, though after sending them, a phase ship must retrieve the items.”

”Dusk has used similar technology before; if I remember correctly, it has some connection to you.”

Chen Ming nodded and said, ”Indeed, but I also remember the Mechanical Race didn’t seem to have a good grasp of this technology at the time.”

”Yes, fortunately, they lost a lot. Otherwise, the Empire might be facing an unobservable enemy today.”

”So do you need to look at this technology?”

”I’ll pass on that for now.”

Chen Ming declined the director’s offer because he only needed that sound transmission device right now.

He had left some things in phase space after his phase ship entered it.

These things could serve as anchor points, allowing his spiritual energy to directly bring more things into phase space.

If Chen Ming wanted to approach the phase giant beast, he could directly build a cruiser, make a teleportation...

Wait, Chen Ming suddenly realized another problem.

If a ship in phase space performs a teleportation, what would be the difference compared to the normal universe environment?

Chen Ming quickly asked the director again: ”Wait, the technology just mentioned can send anything, right?”

”Yes.”

”So have you sent a cruiser?”

”No, because the material consumption for sending things into phase space is proportional to the mass of the sent object.”

”In addition, retrieval relies on a phase ship, so we haven’t tried sending a cruiser in; we’ve only tried sending ordinary ships.”

Chen Ming was somewhat surprised the institute had actually tried this and asked, ”What happened to those ships?”

”As long as the ships are running, they gradually produce radiation energy, so they either permanently shut down, or they’re destroyed in operation due to radiation energy overload.”

”Later, we sent in some tools with phase ships to cut those ships, at least bringing back the wreckage.”

”Your question suggests you’re thinking about phase space teleportation, right?”

Chen Ming didn’t deny it.

The director continued explaining to Chen Ming: ”We’ve considered this problem too. In our view, everything in phase space corresponds with the normal universe environment, including the spatial coordinates.”

”And the teleportation engine cannot penetrate the barrier between the normal universe and phase space.”

”So teleportation from anywhere would end up at the corresponding coordinate at that location.”

”That’s our current hypothesis; the real situation will depend on future research and experimentation.”

Chen Ming understood.

Fortunately, he didn’t actually plan to directly pilot a ship to make contact. He was more interested in using the director’s mentioned device to directly transmit sound to phase space from the normal universe.
