Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station

By observing the panel, Chen Ming discovered that the biggest difference between the Phase Ship and a regular ship was indeed the rather bulky-looking midsection where those things were installed.

Such as the [Phase Coil], [Phase Field Modulator], [Phase Stabilization Anchor], and [Phase Traction Device] - phase devices like these.

Among them, the most crucial should be the Phase Coil. This thing not only occupies the largest space inside the ship but also uses a special kind of material.

And around the complex Phase Coil, there are several small coils made from different materials.

It seems they want to test which materials can serve as a substitute for this special material.

Unfortunately, all Chen Ming could glean from the panel were these superficial aspects.

But once he understands the technology and manufacturing conditions for these things, he would be able to manufacture his own Phase Ship.

It’s still too early to talk about that now.

After Chen Ming finished controlling the ship, he returned to the director’s side.

Just then, someone arrived at the maintenance facility, delivering a document to the director and saying, ”Director, the experiment can begin.”

The director winked at Chen Ming several times.

Ah, this...

Now Chen Ming understood why the director had him take control so quickly.

However, he didn’t see any problem with this; after all, the value of a Phase Ship is not low, especially a prototype in the experimental stage.

Qiu Bowen previously only promised to give Chen Ming one Phase Ship.

But the director directly handed over all the Phase Ships they currently had to his control, meaning simply this:

The control of these ships was entirely in his hands, and he was asked to help ensure the progress of some relatively dangerous experiments.

After all, if a prototype was lost, it would need to be produced again, but if given to Chen Ming, damages could just be repaired by him, and the materials would surely be provided by them.

In this way, the institute gained the assurance that the experimental ships would not be wholly lost after subsequent experiments.

And Chen Ming gained control over all the institute’s Phase Ships.

Once the Ship Research Institute has more Phase Ships in the future, they will all belong to Chen Ming.

It might not even stop at the current seven; there may be more in the future.

A win-win situation, Chen Ming did not see anything bad in the director doing this. Rather, it’s better to have more situations like this one.

Moreover, this could also be considered a test from the director to him.

After all, Chen Ming was something of an air-dropped figure arranged by the Legion Commander, not unlike He Gu from the Spiritual Ability Research Institute, who had many intersections with the Ship Research Institute. Yet he happened to be a person with high authority.

If they didn’t have a clear understanding of Chen Ming’s background, many things couldn’t be freely pursued by the Ship Research Institute.

If Chen Ming was willing to get along well, then many things could be negotiated.

But if Chen Ming was a greedy person who always desired more...

Then the director of the Ship Research Institute would consider a new way to deal with Chen Ming.

However, Chen Ming had always been a very genial person. He treats others the same way they treat him.

With the director making the first gesture of goodwill, Chen Ming was naturally willing to reciprocate.

He responded, ”With the ship under my control, it’s unlikely to have any problems, but I’ve never dealt with Phase Space, so I can’t give a hundred percent guarantee.”

This assurance was enough; the director nodded to Chen Ming and then took him onto the shuttle boat again, heading to the experimental site.

In the maintenance facility, a destroyer and a guard—two Phase Ships in total—took off after final inspections, following the shuttle boat.

A few minutes later.

The shuttle boat and the two Phase Ships arrived at the experimental site.

However, although it was called an experimental site, many experiments for the ships were conducted directly in space, and this was no exception.

The institute had set multiple automatic observation points and a relatively distant main observation point near the confirmed experimental location, entirely encircling the experimental field center.

These observation points are all similar to miniature Space Stations, and whether automatic or main observation points, they can accommodate enough equipment and personnel.

No data or footage would be missed.

However, because the automatic observation points are closer to the center of the experimental site, usually, only equipment is left at these points, establishing remote signal connections with the main observation point.

Therefore, the shuttle boat eventually landed on the satellite space station serving as the main observation point.

After disembarking, the director immediately organized the experiment’s process.

It was clear that the director had rich management experience; at least hundreds of people participated in the entire experimental process to handle different tasks.

All these people, under the director’s command, were working in an orderly manner on what they were supposed to be doing.

Chen Ming silently watched and learned.

He was, after all, the director of the Extraordinary Research Institute.

Usually, he managed those researchers purely based on his prestige and ability. With short timescales and a small number of people, there were no issues.

But if his laboratory expanded in the future, or if collaborative projects for the entire institute were required, his current management ability might fall short; learning some project management experience couldn’t hurt.

The director seemed to notice that Chen Ming was listening attentively, even intentionally showing Chen Ming details of arrangements in the workflow.

It seemed they truly considered Chen Ming a part of the experiment this time.

However, Chen Ming knew nothing about Phase Ships currently, so he could only observe, and perhaps fix a ship when problems arose. But he was equally interested in learning about Phase Technology.
