Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station

In Chen Ming’s original plan, the Ship Research Institute was supposed to be a place he would visit during the mid-phase of the war with the Mechanical Race.

However, plans can’t keep up with changes. The phase giant beast Chen Ming encountered and a phase ship promised by Qiu Bowen forced Chen Ming to come here earlier.

Because Qiu Bowen had informed the Ship Research Institute about Chen Ming’s situation in advance, and Chen Ming also took some time to get in touch with them.

So, the location Chen Ming is going to this time is arranged by the Ship Research Institute, located on a Space Station in the planet’s orbit.

The shuttle boat entered the Space Station’s internal port through the VIP channel.

When Chen Ming got off the ship, the director of the Ship Research Institute had already come here in person to welcome him.

”Mr. Chen Ming, welcome, welcome.”

The director of the Ship Research Institute in front of him had a kind appearance. Although his hair was completely white, he looked full of energy, completely unlike the elderly image Chen Ming had in his mind.

Chen Ming extended his hand to the director and said, ”Just call me Chen Ming.”

The director immediately shook Chen Ming’s hand a few times, but did not let go. Instead, he introduced Chen Ming to the two deputies behind him.

Both were ordinary people and looked not young, and they were also top researchers involved in the study of phase ships.

Chen Ming always maintained respect for capable people and took the initiative to greet them.

The two deputies also promptly responded.

Apart from that, there were some ordinary researchers and some accompanying security personnel; there weren’t too many miscellaneous people.

This simple but highly respectful attitude made Chen Ming feel quite comfortable.

After Chen Ming greeted the important people brought by the director,

the director cleared his throat slightly and said, ”Chen Ming, General Qiu has already explained everything to us.”

”We are all willing to cooperate with your work. Currently, the institute has manufactured a total of seven phase ship prototypes: four guards, three destroyers, and one cruiser level is still under construction.”

”I’ll take you to them now.”

”Thank you.”

”You’re welcome.”

The director evidently had no intention to waste time. Soon, under his guidance, Chen Ming transferred to a medium-sized shuttle boat belonging to the Ship Research Institute and left the Space Station.

Heading to the orbital test site.

Besides the highly industrialized planet itself, the Ship Research Institute’s planet also has two artificial orbital industrial rings in space.

The inner ring is purely industrial facilities, and the inside of the outer ring is also the same.

The outer side of the outer ring is mostly the area for ship experiments.

The orbital test site is located here.

And further outside is an even larger Space Station than the Pirate Space Station, akin to the headquarters of the Ship Research Institute.

Moreover, on the orbit of this planet belonging to the Ship Research Institute, there is a megastructure corresponding to the Space Station,

a giant shipyard for the production of main ships and main level weapons.

All the necessary supporting facilities are available.

As Chen Ming observed the layout of the Ship Research Institute through the shuttle boat’s windows,

the shuttle boat soon landed on the outer side of the outer orbital ring.

The gravity simulation device played a role here; although the orbit was spinning, it didn’t throw off the people and structures on top.

After landing, Chen Ming and the director’s group took a ground vehicle on the orbital industrial ring to a semi-open ship maintenance plant here.

Although the starry sky was above, Chen Ming did not need to wear a protective suit when getting off the vehicle.

The oxygen on the orbital ring was partially maintained by life-support devices that continuously manufactured it and partially restrained by gravity, sufficient for people to work here without protective suits.

In this somewhat empty maintenance plant, seven ships were parked scattered.

All were undergoing inspection and maintenance.

These are the phase ships.

Their appearance is similar to ordinary ships, with no overly obvious difference, all having the normal spaceship look.

The main colors are close to deep blue and silver-gray, likely due to the materials needed to build phase ships.

Only the center of the ship protrudes slightly, making the ship—which initially should have looked like a large base trapezoid from directly above—resemble a hexagon.

Apparently, many devices are installed within.

These devices installed in the midsection of the ship are the biggest difference between these phase ships and ordinary ships.

Overall, these ships seem somewhat crude; various equipment and circuits have not been well optimized or designed.

However, since the phase ships are still in the experimental stage, as long as they can move, it’s fine.

The optimization of hidden lines and equipment is something to deal with later.

The director gestured to the seven phase ships and said, ”All the phase ships manufactured are here. If it’s not too troublesome for you, you can control them all.”

Chen Ming was somewhat doubtful whether he had heard it wrong and asked again, ”All of them?”

”Yes, phase ships themselves are easily lost, especially at the early experimental stages when we know little about phase space. Generally, two or three experiments can damage a spaceship.”

”With you here, maybe the loss of our ships can be minimized.”

”Alright.”

Since the director said so, Chen Ming did not shy away. Whatever reaches his hands, others should not think of taking back.

Chen Ming immediately strolled around the seven ships and exercised control over each phase ship.
