High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1949: Chapter 170: The Newcomer of Ouroboros

Dylan didn’t forget about Lin Yan’s identity.

Just one thing, Dylan proposed acquiring Absolution twelve days ago, which was on the first Saturday of the school term, when Zheng Qing and Xiao Xiao were on their way to the library.

It’s already the Friday of the third week now.

In the blink of an eye, the first week of school was over, and Zheng Qing felt like he hadn’t accomplished anything, feeling a bit like time was flying by and he couldn’t keep up.

But the world won’t stop spinning for someone’s momentary trance.

As Zheng Qing was lost in thought, Andrew was pressing a hand on Lin Yan’s shoulder, speaking ambiguously and meaningfully to the newcomers of the Ouroboros Hunting Team: ”...As you know, Zheng Qing has a very excellent hunting team... his vast knowledge is worth learning from, from hunting skills to every secret path in the academy, yes, he knows many secrets of this campus... including how to find the way back to the academy from an unfamiliar place.”

Such a ’polite’ way to send someone off, Zheng Qing heard for the first time.

He couldn’t help but raise his eyebrows.

”I should have tipped my hat,” the young cost student tugged on his hood, securing his hat a bit more, then looked at Andrew, then at Lin Yan, adding, ”...but I just realized, we’re all familiar, no need for such formalities.”

”Oh, you know each other?” Andrew feigned surprise, as if just learning about it.

Zheng Qing bet he did it on purpose, because Lin Yan’s attempt to acquire the Absolution Hunting Team had created quite a stir in the First University’s hunting team circle, and as the most outstanding new generation Hunting Team Leader of Alpha, this little werewolf cub couldn’t not know.

Even though both knew the other was lying, they maintained a superficially amicable atmosphere.

”Had some dealings.” The leader of Absolution waved his hand indifferently: ”Lin Yan once attempted to buy Absolution Hunting Team a few days ago.”

”A truly brave idea.” Andrew turned back, full of appreciation, and patted the newcomer’s shoulder vigorously.

Lin Yan forced a smile, saying nothing.

Zheng Qing thought that smile was asking for a punch.

”Furry Bean!” he called out softly.

The greyish dog emerged from the void in the blink of an eye, lying between the cost students of Jiuyou and Alpha, curling its paws, exposing its belly, and joyfully wagging its tail.

Lin Yan’s smile instantly froze on his face.

He still remembered the last time the dog blocked his way, Zheng Qing had said ”a good dog doesn’t block the path,” and he couldn’t help but grit his teeth, trying hard to resist the urge to kick that grey-skinned dog one — he also suspected that even if he did, not only would he miss that elusive dog, but it might bite him hard instead.

He might even get scammed out of money.

Though he had a lot of money, it shouldn’t be wasted on rogues. Thinking this, Lin Yan immediately felt wise for maintaining restraint, mood slightly improving.

”Very beautiful dog,” Andrew’s eyes lit up, unable to hide the love on his face. Zheng Qing was momentarily stunned, then immediately understood his werewolf bloodline.

Werewolves like dogs, just as Su Ya liked Poseidon, it’s the affinity between close relatives.

”It’s got some Tingdalous blood, not pure, but quite rare on Buji Island.” Zheng Qing politely remarked, while trying to figure out how to subtly pinch some good stuff out of the short fat guy on the opposite side.

Otherwise, all this talking would be a waste.

He believed those leisurely and silent companions behind him had the same idea. Earlier, Zhang Ji Xin was worried about the hunting team’s training funds, and now they stumbled upon Ouroboros illegal trade.

This is what you call windfall.

Perhaps sensing the warlock’s bad intentions, the leader of the Ouroboros Hunting Team forced himself to look away from Furry Bean, repeating his earlier suggestion: ”Such a beautiful dog should go back to rest early, or it may shed fur... without its fur, the dog wouldn’t be beautiful.”

Saying so, he looked sincerely at the guests.

Zheng Qing was momentarily unsure if this werewolf cub in front of him was truly talking about Furry Bean, or implying something other — he always felt there was some malicious undertone in Andrew’s words.

”Furry Bean likes the night.” Zheng Qing pretended not to understand Andrew’s underlying meaning.

”The night indeed is a good time for training.”

The leader of the Ouroboros Hunting Team didn’t mind, immediately offering another suggestion: ”I have a small suggestion here... about a thousand meters away, there’s a Houdou camp, they’d be a great prey... you should go there. Quiet, spacious, unfamiliar hunting ground, new prey, greatly exercises the team’s adaptability.”

”You’ve been there?”

”Been there.”

”Are those Houdou still there?”

”They were when we left... don’t worry, we’re not interested in hunting.”

”Hmm? A hunting team not interested in hunting?”

”Too bloody, too magic-consuming, sometimes you have to rely on luck, wasting so much time, and the returns are disappointing. This isn’t the business I like.”

”Treating hunting as business... if the Elders of the Taylor family heard this, you’d be dragged by your tail and locked in a cellar by Lake Ontario.” Dylan sneered.

”In this world, gold beans are God, jade coins are the dear father.” A muffled voice, yet very clear, came from the darkness: ”Hunting is a business.”

Zheng Qing looked towards the voice and saw a small warlock figure.

He remembered it was the Wanderer of the Ouroboros Hunting Team, from Starry Sky Academy, classmates with Dylan and Blue Bird, his family had a restaurant named ’Yota’ on Pedestrian Street — Zheng Qing had always wanted to take Jiang Yu there for a meal.

”No wonder you’re a hunting team’s teammate.” The warlock praised, finally giving up on further entanglement, deciding to be straightforward, he extended his hand to Andrew: ”Since you’re not interested, let’s drive away those Houdou for you... hmm, service fee, a small one, seven hunters on our side, one jade coin each.”

”That’s robbery!” An indignant voice from Omega sounded again in the darkness: ”Just a group of Houdou, we don’t need you to help!”

This naive child, thinking Zheng Qing was really talking about hunting.

”No, we do.” In comparison, the leader of the Ouroboros Hunting Team was much wiser, he decisively extended his hand, grabbed Zheng Qing’s outstretched palm, smiling all over his face: ”Seven jade coins can hire a renowned hunting team that participated in the Black Prison battle, very cheap, very cheap.”

Behind Zheng Qing, came Xin Fat Man’s regretful mumble: ”Seems it’s still not much.”

”I bet, those grey cloth bags are filled with gemstones, otherwise, the profit wouldn’t be so generous.” Dylan analyzed in a similarly small voice.

”We can’t just focus on that little profit.” Zhang Ji Xin joined their whispering, but even as he tried to lower his voice, his booming voice still stood out to others: ”...the bigger picture should be considered, if caught smuggling like this, punished heavily by the school, not just seven jade coins could resolve it.”

Andrew remained oblivious, shaking Zheng Qing’s hand vigorously: ”Let’s call it a deal.”

”Deal.” Zheng Qing also knew when to stop.

On the clearing beside the shore, the other hunters of the two teams almost simultaneously breathed a sigh of relief, except for those fishmen behind Iseni, who nervously twitched their dorsal fins, annoyed by the wizards’ dawdling.
