High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1938: Chapter 159: Friday Night

Although the third week’s night training was planned as recovery training, not aimed at hunting. But after a simple run-in and getting back the ’feeling’, the Absolution Hunting Team’s night training unknowingly exceeded the plan again.

Just like a tiger walking out of its cave, wandering in the forest, you can’t really expect it to just stroll through the woods and ignore the little wild boar slipping past its eyes.

The first training session on Monday night went very well and was all within plan.

Tuan Tuan and Furry Bean wandered around the outskirts of the hunting team, occasionally expelling the approaching Getrassi. The five hunters participating in the training formed a simple battle formation to rehearse formation changes, positioning, and some tactics learned last year on the hunting ground. Although Jiang Yu was participating in the Absolution for the first time, she was not a novice on the hunting ground and instead naturally integrated into Xiao Xiao’s tactical guidance, receiving praise from everyone.

The second training session on Wednesday night was slightly disrupted by Blue Bird’s return to the team.

He had ended up in the school hospital by accident on Monday due to participating in a limitless combat match at Starry Sky Academy, lying on the hospital bed for an entire day. After rejoining the team on Wednesday, the Hunter’s position had already been taken by Jiang Da Headmaster, and he could only silently serve as a viewer on the edge of the hunting ground.

Of course, Zhang Ji Xin and Xiao Xiao would not let an excellent hunter sit on the substitute bench all the time. So, during Wednesday’s training, the Absolution Hunting Team implemented a rotation system, everyone had to become familiar with the play styles and characteristics of different positions. This greatly improved the skills of all members of the hunting team — including Zheng Qing. At the very least, when he served as the Left Auxiliary Hunter, he could decently dispatch the battle formation and provide hunting guidance.

Even if Xin Fat Man mocked that Zheng Qing’s guidance lived up to the name of ’Mr. Zha’.

By the third training session on Friday night, the last main hunter of the Absolution Hunting Team, Dylan, finally joined in. For this reason, Mister Blood Werewolf had to make up a lesson on Saturday during the day.

”Actually, you don’t need to take a whole night off.” Before training began, Zheng Qing mentioned to Dylan during their chat: ”Our training is only from nine to eleven, and the time is not mandatory. You can totally leave a few minutes early... this way, you might even make it to the latter half of the first night class.”

”I would never go to class drenched in sweat.” Dylan flatly refused the public-funded student’s suggestion: ”That would harm the elegance of a Moonlight Noble.”

”Do vampires sweat?” Zheng Qing quietly asked Xiao Xiao.

”I have very keen hearing!” Before the Doctor could speak, the Moonlight Noble angrily shouted: ”Blood Race! Blood Race! Not vampire... and even if the Blood Race doesn’t sweat, the other half of my bloodline will!”

The other half of Dylan’s bloodline is Werewolf.

Werewolves naturally sweat.

”My bad.” The young public-funded student wouldn’t conflict with his own team member over such trifles, immediately raised both hands and conceded.

In this regard, Dylan generously didn’t take offense.

”I heard you attended the Wednesday training? How did it feel?” Dylan turned his gaze to another Starry Sky Academy hunter in the Absolution Hunting Team: ”They didn’t recite the hunting competition rules on the hunting ground, did they?”

This was mocking Jiuyou Academy’s bookishness, Zheng Qing reflected, feeling that he could also understand the subtext, which was quite an improvement.

”It was fine.”

Blue Bird, taciturn as always, holding a sword, walked in the center of the team, paused, and added a word: ”...didn’t recite.”

The night wind brushed past, and Zheng Qing couldn’t help but shiver, feeling cold.

As they spoke, the group had already entered the hunting ground. Tuan Tuan slowly jumped off Xin Fat Man’s shoulder, tail upright, butt swaying, and unhurriedly walked towards the depths of the hunting ground.

Distant suspicious catcalls faintly came from the direction where Tuan Tuan disappeared.

”It’s autumn now, right.” Zheng Qing uncertainly pinched his fingers, calculating.

”You mean that sound?” Xiao Xiao immediately saw what Zheng Qing was doubting, adjusted his glasses with a snicker: ”If I heard it correctly, that should not be a catcall but the cry of a Banshee.”

”Banshee?”

A layer of blue appeared over Xin Fat Man’s face. He perked his ears to listen carefully and his face became increasingly unsightly: ”It really seems so... that is not a good omen.”

Old-school wizards believe that the cry of a Banshee heralds bad omens and death, so they have always been expelled by wizards and are rarely seen in places where wizards gather, even in modern times.

”Does the school have a Banshee?” Zheng Qing also heard such a legendary magical creature for the first time and couldn’t help focusing carefully and indeed noticed it was somewhat different from a catcall.

”This sounds new.”

The Fat Wizard glanced at his captain and said earnestly: ”You should ask what the school doesn’t have... according to the Alliance’s report, Buji Island and First University possess the most complete ecosystem in the Wizard World, almost all magical creatures can be found on this island. Not to mention just a not-so-rare Banshee.”

”Enough chit-chat!”

The captain of the Absolution Hunting Team clapped his hands, preventing Xin Fat Man from continuing to complain, then stuck his thumbs into the belt, sternly looking around: ”Firstly, I must admit our luck is good today; no one went into the school hospital after the afternoon’s practical class... Since everyone is here, we will start the third training session of this year... Um, the training progress reports are all filled out, right? I remember we need to submit them to the Hunting Committee.”

He looked at Xiao Xiao with some unease.

”That’s not something you should worry about.” The diviner of the Absolution Hunting Team waved his hand, as if chasing away a mosquito.

”Very well.”

Zheng Qing never expected to hear anything more positive, so he solemnly nodded: ”Then today, we will continue with Wednesday night’s plan, keep rotating, so happen that the gentleman is back, for the first round of training he’ll serve as the Wandering Hunter, the monitor as the Hunter, the swordsman as the main Hunter, the elder as the Left Auxiliary Hunter, the fat man as the Right Auxiliary Hunter, the Doctor and I will guide from outside... Um, is there any problem?”

Zheng Qing saw Mister Blood Werewolf raise his arm high up, and had to stop his arrangement.

”My night off isn’t for playing house.”

Dylan was evidently dissatisfied with the simple review of battle formations and tactical drills, his tone was even more displeased than Zheng Qing’s: ”Coming out at night, if we’re just stupidly running around on the hunting ground, how is that different from the first-year preparatory hunting teams? We might as well be in a warm study room deriving tactics on paper... Blue Bird, you think so too, right.”

He didn’t even call Blue Bird by his code name, directly addressing him.

The swordsman of the Absolution Hunting Team didn’t voice support for the ’gentleman’ sir’s complaint, but didn’t oppose it either, maintaining his usual silence. However, Zheng Qing keenly noticed that his silence showed a hint of hesitation.

This was quite telling.
