High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1915: Chapter 136: The Truth Behind the Truth

Four sheets of pale yellow talisman paper floated up and landed gently on Dylan and Xin Fat Man’s chest and back.

Two Calm Heart Talismans, two Clear Heart Symbols.

With the help of the talisman paper, the Blood Werewolf and Blue Fatty quickly calmed down. Then, the young public expense student who flicked out the talisman paper turned to look at Xiao Xiao.

”Did you know about this beforehand?” He was puzzled by the Doctor’s calm demeanor, as he had thought he was the only young wizard privy to such a secret: ”...How did you know?”

”Did you forget my sideline job?”

Doctor Xiao twirled the brush in his hand, glanced at Zheng Qing, and curled his lips, seeming somewhat indifferent: ”As an ’Observer,’ I can read more truths about the wizarding world than you can imagine... Besides, Sima interpreting historical truths also helped me a lot. But you, how did you know such a secret?”

Sima Yangyun was a lecturer in Magic History at the First University, coming from a famous Magic History researching family. With her help, it made sense.

As for Xiao Xiao’s latter question.

Zheng Qing hesitated slightly, but still answered: ”The gentleman told me.”

Then, before his companions could question further, he shifted the topic back to the extra section of the newspaper: ”How did the Beta Town Post know about this secret? How dare they?!”

The last sentence voiced the collective vague yet clear inner voice of all the young wizards in dormitory 403.

Indeed, Professor Yao was a powerful wizard confirmed by the Alliance to have advanced to a legendary status.

Although the Beta Town Post was somewhat renowned in the wizarding world, that reputation was not built on nonsense but on discernment—if the self-righteous Beta Town Post spent its days cursing the Sea Demon King, uncovering the Witch Demon’s illegitimate children left in the Alliance, or probing into the real identities of ’certain departments’ staff with reckless news, even if they hid their headquarters inside Alpha Fortress, it wouldn’t stop the subjects from raining down slaps from above.

So, having been ’sensible’ for so long, there’s no reason for them to suddenly flip the table now and try to rebuild their reputation!

”Could it be possible that the information came from the Land of Desolation or was leaked by other demons?” Dylan hesitated for a moment before voicing his suspicion: ”Could it be revenge because Professor Yao was too harsh on them at the Black Prison Battlefield?”

A classic Starry Sky straight-line thinking, where every reason is related to conflict.

Zheng Qing was slightly taken aback.

I have to say, this speculation made sense, though it still lacked persuasive power. The most obvious point, Old Yao had been the principal of Jiuyou Academy for more than a year or two, having personally slain or captured numerous renowned demons. If the demon side wanted revenge, it made no sense to keep it hidden for so long.

This reasoning also applied to the Beta Town Post.

”Not very convincing.”

Xiao Xiao slightly shook his head, simply analyzing the reasons above, while also adding: ”Like the Beta Town Post, I also don’t believe they knew about this long ago... If they did, there’s no reason to hold it in until today to publish... and in the form of an extra edition, no less.”

After all, compared to the formal front-page headline in the regular edition, an extra edition seems less official. Yet this matter requires the seriousness of a front-page headline for endorsement.

Upon hearing the Doctor’s judgment, the room fell silent once more.

Unexpectedly, it was Xin who broke the silence this time, suddenly bringing up another matter seemingly ’unrelated’ to the extra edition.

”The principal’s speech at today’s opening ceremony skipped over an appointment.”

The blue tint on the fat wizard’s face had completely faded, and his eyes were lowered, his voice somewhat gloomy: ”The school originally planned to announce the new vice principal selection at the ceremony—namely, Professor Yao—this matter was pre-informed to the editor-in-chief of the campus newspaper for drafting purposes, and Senior Linda even quietly congratulated me since she knows Old Yao is also our advisor.”

Pausing slightly here, Xin pulled a wry smile across his face: ”...But for some reason, during the principal’s speech at the ceremony, the part related to the appointment was skipped, leaving Senior Linda working overtime to revise the front-page news... Do you think after the extra edition from the Beta Town Post comes out, Old Yao can still be the vice principal?”

Dylan hissed in surprise.

Though he was a student at Starry Sky Academy, coming from Moonlight Nobles with Tabbot and O’Brien bloodline, he was inherently sensitive to such conspiracies.

Especially with Xin Fat Man putting things so clearly.

He instinctively glanced out the window. It was already deep night, and outside it was pitch black, even the moon seemed to worry about being caught up in this troubling matter, having hidden behind the clouds early on.

”You think Alpha intervened?” Xiao Xiao adjusted his glasses and straightforwardly voiced Xin’s suspicion.

The fat wizard didn’t hesitate, nodding: ”Clearly, this extra edition brings the greatest loss to Professor Yao—reputation, status, position, all will suffer great loss due to this report. Following the principle of maximum gain, the object gaining the most benefit from this matter is likely the one who leaked the information.”

Xiao Xiao and Xin’s dialogue was somewhat vague, not naming names. But the other two present were not bookworms oblivious to worldly matters, easily drawing their own conclusions from their conversation.

Throughout the First University, the only person capable of competing with Professor Yao for the vice principal position was Professor Emma, Dean of Alpha Academy. Zheng Qing remembered clearly that Professor Emma also obtained a Xuanhuang Fruit during the Black Prison.

With conditions, motives, capabilities, combined with the intensifying conflict between Jiuyou Academy and Alpha Academy, it seemed the truth was just beyond a thin layer of window paper.

Zheng Qing found it hard to imagine the Magic Language Professor, the stern old lady in class, doing such a thing.

For some reason, as an observer to this incident, Zheng Qing inexplicably recalled those ’rogue’ young officers of the Japanese military during World War II.

He shook his head, trying to dispel the cluttered thoughts from his mind.

”Two questions.”

The young public expense student raised two fingers, slightly raising his voice to draw his companions’ attention: ”First, does skipping over the appointment announcement in the ceremony speech mean the school knew about this matter this afternoon? Second, if they knew, why didn’t they take any countermeasures? Thirdly, and most importantly, given the direction of your discussion, since it’s already known that Professor Yao is a Great Demon, why are we still calmly discussing who leaked the news, such a trivial matter here!”

Especially the third point, which Zheng Qing found most incomprehensible.
