High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1942: Chapter 163: The Roadblockers

”Eeehaa?”

”That’s the sound of a mule... Getrassi doesn’t sound like that.”

”Then how do you say they sound?”

”I think it’s... heehee?”

”...Why don’t you just say haha.”

”There is indeed a ’hee’ sound, but it’s not complete; it sounds like there’s also a coughing sound... heehee cough cough, hee cough, hee cough, something like that... Are they choking?”

Zheng Qing listened impassively as Dylan and Xin Fat Man discussed eagerly, feeling that the topic Xiao Xiao brought up was somewhat unwise.

Unlike him, Xiao Xiao listened intently to their analysis.

Finally, the Diviner of the Atonement stated, nodding, ”More or less, I also hear those two sounds. I initially thought it was an illusion, but it seems I heard right... However, what you guys call ’hee cough’ isn’t accurate. To be precise, they are shouting ’Hex’.”

”Hex?” Zheng Qing frowned, feeling he’d heard that word somewhere before.

”Demon art!”

Jiang Yu immediately displayed the demeanor of a top student, answering without hesitation, ”A very rare black magical curse, part of shaman magic... But usually, this curse only turns powerful wizards into small lambs or frogs. Also, I’ve never heard of Getrassi being able to use shaman magic!”

Upon hearing the keywords of shaman magic and frogs, a lightning bolt flashed in Zheng Qing’s mind, instantly reminding him where that familiar feeling came from.

A few weeks ago, during the second-year opening trial, the Atonement Hunting Team had dealt with a frenzied two-headed ogre, which used a demon art curse at that time.

”Exactly.” The Diviner of the Atonement Hunting Team looked approvingly at the Monitor, adding, ”Theoretically, Getrassi indeed cannot perform shaman curses, but theoretically, Getrassi shouldn’t be so fierce either...”

Zheng Qing twitched his mouth.

Indeed, those mutated Getrassi seemed to have turned into a pack of black ferocious beasts — the leading black ’big dog,’ whose eyes turned red from green, suddenly swelled with its smoke-composed body, its face elongated, mouth widened, long mane trailing behind its neck, flying with the night wind; only its four feet, with their sharp claws, didn’t change into hooves along with the body.

Following the leader, the other ten or so Getrassi also transformed in their roars into fierce tall horses, their high-pitched neighing sounding like thunder, suppressing the spell voices of the young wizards; when they charged down the hill, they moved swiftly as the wind, tearing through the Array set by the Atonement Hunting Team with just one sprint.

Moreover, when the young wizards tried to reuse spells to attack these mutated Getrassi, those tall horse beasts not only didn’t dodge but bravely launched a counter-charge.

Then, to the hunters’ shocked eyes, the sharp spell lights were forcefully bitten apart by the horse beasts’ wide-open mouths full of sharp teeth, turning into a scattering of colorful lights.

If even the invisible spells could be bitten to pieces by those monsters, let alone talismans, Arrays, and other methods with physical substance. Arrays shattered under sharp claws, talismans turned into fragments between sharp teeth, and even the Blue Giant revealing its true form struggled, frequently missing its attacks under the mad dog’s assault, ending up covered in scars.

The most dreadful thing was that these monsters were ’undying.’

When the first mutated Getrassi slain by Blue Bird reappeared on the battlefield with its bloodshot eyes, the Diviner, the main hunter, and the Hunting Team Leader of the Atonement Team wisely made the same decision — retreat.

Though somewhat embarrassed, opting to relocate in the face of such monster attacks wasn’t shameful.

Moreover, this hunting ground located on Buji Island belongs to the First University. The retreating young wizards did not doubt that as long as they left the hunting ground and alerted the night training team of the school works committee, the school could settle these monsters who tormented them into a sorry state in the blink of an eye.

So, even in retreat, these young hunters still displayed ample composure.

”...Since ’theory’ has deviated, we have reason to make any possible assumptions.” Xiao Xiao’s voice once again appeared beside the young cost student, interrupting his thoughts: ”For example, due to some special reasons, those Getrassi have mastered ’demon art.’”

The expressions of the other young wizards, including Zheng Qing, turned solemn as well.

If this inference is correct, then who enabled these Getrassi to master ’demon art’? Does he have any connection to the two-headed ogre in the trial ground?

If they could master ’demon art,’ does that mean they could also master other black magic? Now that the hunting team has stopped here, where have the mutated Getrassi trailing behind them gone?

As these thoughts flashed through his mind, Zheng Qing instinctively stood straight and looked around.

The effect of ’Little Star’ hadn’t dispersed yet; seven or eight wheel-sized light balls hovered in mid-air, illuminating miles around like daylight. The real moon in the sky paled in comparison to the magic, hiding its curved body behind the night curtain.

At times, seven-colored rays flashed in the air, signifying the Guardian Magic invoked by Jiang Yu, silently blessing this pure land beneath the night curtain.

Xiao Xiao laid down the Crystal Ball, sitting cross-legged on the ground, starting a small bonfire, earnestly tossing dry branches and leaves into the fire by his side. Next to him lay a cleaned Turtle Shell, with many holes of varying sizes carved with an engraving knife following the trajectory of sun, moon, and stars.

Beyond the bonfire, pure land, and starlight, the deep night grew even more profound, as if at this moment, all the darkness in the world gathered.

Whether it was an illusion or not, Zheng Qing felt as if several spying eyes were hiding in that darkness, greedily observing these young wizards within this small pure land.

Hunters turning into prey is the worst thing in this world.

”Don’t stop, leave the hunting ground first.” Zheng Qing immediately made a decision.

The Diviner, planning to toss the Turtle Shell into the fire, froze upon hearing this, hastily jumping up to stamp out the small fire and pocketing the Turtle Shell.

”Good, saving me a Scale Armor.” The short Warlock smacked his lips, somewhat regretfully, ”I originally wanted to see who’s behind the mischief...”

As he spoke, the seven hunters of the Atonement Hunting Team had already reestablished the Xi Suxing formation.

Once formed, the orange-red Envelope slowly rose, resembling the House Fire Pig to some extent, progressing much from its previous meatball-like appearance.

Indeed, practice is the best method to master magic.

Hovering mid-air, the ’Little Stars’ aligned into a line, stretching from above the young wizards to the outskirts of the hunting ground, illuminating a path through the black night like a jade belt.

The ’House Fire Pig’ darted forward along the path, but after several hundred meters, it abruptly halted.

Because the dozen or so mutated Getrassi appeared once more before them, blocking their path out of the hunting ground. Compared with earlier, these Getrassi seemed to have enlarged again, with scale armor clearly visible and an even fiercer temperament.

Upon seeing their counterparts, the young wizards did not hesitate, letting out a long neigh and together lowering their heads to charge.
