High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1908: Chapter 129: The One Slacking Off

Immediately, Zheng Qing realized that Xin Fat Man didn’t know about his relationship with Poseidon.

He just instinctively used the term describing the relationship between pets and their Feed Masters at the school—many young wizards call their pets sons or daughters, which old-school wizards consider to be sheer nonsense.

”Poseidon is a little girl!” The young public-funded student scooped up the lively Little Fox from the ground, agitated but relieved as he corrected the Fat Man’s mistake.

”Never seen such a wild little girl.” Xin Fat Man shook his head, raised his finger under a group of Fireflies, carefully examined the fine tooth marks, and breathed a sigh of relief: ”Lucky, lucky, it didn’t break the skin.”

Poseidon draped her tail over Zheng Qing’s neck, chirping incessantly at the Fat Man, even if you couldn’t understand fox language, just looking at her demeanor made it clear she was cursing at the Fat Man.

Feeling slightly weary, Zheng Qing rubbed the Little Fox’s ears and glanced at the Fat Man beside him with the corner of his eye.

Should he just go ahead and tell his companions about Poseidon’s background? Facing such questions every time was nerve-wracking, and it happened so often that he felt not only his heart but his lifespan were being severely diminished.

But immediately, he abandoned the idea.

The fervor with which his classmates had faced Councillor Su last semester was fresh in his memories, so much so that as soon as that thought surfaced in Zheng Qing’s mind, he immediately uprooted it and threw it into his boiling brain to cook thoroughly.

”Here, take it!”

Beside him, Xin Fat Man handed Zheng Qing a box of new popcorn chicken, casting a disdainful glance at the young public-funded student: ”There’s an old saying, ’Poor son, rich daughter,’ girls should be raised lavishly... If you raise Poseidon like this, what if she gets lured away with chicken legs by someone else in the future?”

Try cold dishes.

Zheng Qing expressionlessly accepted the box of popcorn chicken, silently responding in his heart, first stuffing a few pieces into his mouth before looking down at the Little Fox in his arms.

This little creature just enjoyed the act of snatching others’ delicacies; she didn’t genuinely fancy the few pieces of popcorn chicken from the Fat Man’s hand.

Moreover, he doubted anyone could secretly snatch away the Little Fox from Councillor Su’s supervision, and he really doubted this little creature would be coaxed away by something dumb like chicken legs.

Compared to tasty treats, she much preferred playfully following her whims.

Sure enough, when Zheng Qing placed the popcorn chicken in his palm under Poseidon’s nose, the Little Fox casually took one or two pieces, just to go through the motions, before resuming her struggle in the Warlock’s arms, without the previous eagerness.

”Attention students!”

”The opening ceremony will officially begin in fifteen minutes, please take your positions. During the ceremony, do not move randomly, chase, or frolic; students not wearing academy robes...”

The clear and loud voice came from the Speaker Flowers clinging to the columns and railings, easily subduing the noise within the First Hall.

The entire hall echoed with the buzzing from the Speaker Flowers, making people’s fingers tingle.

At that moment.

A blue Paper Crane fluttered its wings, gracefully gliding past each towering column, weaving through the bustling crowd in the First Hall.

It nimbly avoided the pursuit of several ravens and pigeons, skillfully dodging the vines hanging from the ceiling, disregarding the dense Fireflies on the vines, persistently following the scent locked by the spell formula on the letter.

Until a corner on the second floor of the hall.

The Paper Crane slightly slowed its speed, surveyed the surroundings for a moment, and finally found its target among the crowded figures—a second-year veteran in a red robe holding a fox.

Then it folded its wings, happily landing on the Warlock’s shoulder.

”Dong Dong, stop it!”

Zheng Qing raised a hand to press down the Little Fox who had lifted her head, tucking her back into his arms, then grabbed the Paper Crane on his shoulder, skillfully unfolding it with one hand while muttering under his breath: ”Consider yourself lucky...”

A few seconds ago, this fortunate Paper Crane was almost clawed to pieces by the Little Fox. Heaven knows why Poseidon was so full of energy, constantly keeping people on edge.

The Little Fox chirped discontentedly, raising her fluffy big tail, blocking the Warlock’s view. Zheng Qing had to waste another second pushing aside that stubborn tail before finally seeing the message the Paper Crane wanted to deliver.

Then he widened his eyes in surprise, standing frozen in place.

”The hunting team matter?”

Xin Fat Man, noticing Zheng Qing’s expression, curiously leaned over: ”Are they looking to acquire Absolution, or wanting to join Absolution? I say, why not publish a blurb in the campus newspaper, declaring the hunting team isn’t selling, and isn’t recruiting this year? Save yourself from these endless Paper Crane nuisances.”

”It’s unrelated to the hunting team.” Zheng Qing stepped back, avoiding the chubby face, and mumbled, ”It’s a personal matter... personal.”

The Fat Wizard paused for a second, then quietly glanced behind.

Jiang Yu was recording something with her head down, her emerald feather pen happily bobbing on the notepad, like a bird pecking at the ground. Li Meng was leaning against a column, chatting idly with the carvings on it, while on her shoulder, the pigeon Xiao Bai folded its wings, nestled its neck, and squinted its eyes, nodding off intermittently.

Xin Fat Man withdrew his gaze, turned back to Zheng Qing, with a sly look, and lowered his voice: ”...The monitor is right over there, what personal matters do you have left? You really have so many affairs going on? Who else is involved?”

The Little Fox giggled in Zheng Qing’s arms, laughing so hard she couldn’t even swing her tail, letting it droop limply.

Zheng Qing, on the other hand, was furious.

”Get lost!” He shoved the Fat Wizard away, cursing under his breath: ”Really, nothing good comes out of your mouth... Aside from male and female issues, can’t your mind think of other personal matters?”

The Fat Wizard simply wiped his face, unaffected by the scolding, instead sticking one hand under his armpit, pinching his chin with the other, and showing a thoughtful expression.

After a while, he nodded: ”Lots, like popping into the school hospital for a hemorrhoid treatment, having a circumcision, or maybe stumbling across a packet of discarded herbs in the woods, slyly selling them at the Wandering Bar... and meeting a lover at the tavern for a date, wait, finding a lover also falls under male and female issues, doesn’t it?”

Helplessly, Zheng Qing glanced at Fat Man, covering the Little Fox’s ears, and thought for a while, unsure how to respond to Fat Man’s ’insightful commentary’.

In the end, the young public-funded student merely sighed deeply.

”I need to head out for a bit.” He glanced at the scene below, gaining order and quietness, and murmured softly.

”Now?” Fat Man looked around in surprise: ”The ceremony is about to start! Do you want to lose points from the Disciplinary team? You’re still on school probation!”

”I’ll be back soon, notify me if anything important happens.” Zheng Qing waved his hand with slight impatience, finally leaving just this simple sentence, then turned away from the corner to head downstairs.
