High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1923: Chapter 144: Class Meeting of the Second Zhou

Old Yao’s article to be published is titled ”Truth, Philosophy and My World View.” At the end of the article, the author’s titles are listed as ’Member of the Great Wizard Conference of the Mage Alliance, Dean of Jiuyou Academy at the First University, and Deputy Dean of the Institute of Applied Magic’.

It added the title of Deputy Dean of the Institute of Applied Magic, which wasn’t previously announced.

This already explains a lot.

Zheng Qing remained silent for a moment, then let out a light sigh.

”Didn’t we speculate about this possibility before?” The cost student shrugged and glanced toward the classroom door, ”Under the starry sky, nothing is new... Besides, Old Yao does have issues.”

He whispered the last sentence so low it was almost inaudible.

”You’re as peculiar as he is,” Xiao Xiao muttered equally low.

Zheng Qing didn’t hear it clearly—of course, even if he did, he wouldn’t argue with the doctor about it—he was looking at the sneaky figures pretending to pass by classroom 601 outside the door.

An ordinary Silence Contract can only keep everyone from discussing or revealing certain unpleasant topics, but it can’t stop everyone from communicating with their eyes.

Just like the suddenly increased number of young wizards outside the door, who always use ’unintentional’ glances to scrutinize every student in Astronomy Class 08-1, as if trying to discover another demon camouflaging as a wizard under everyone’s watchful eyes.

Those gazes made the atmosphere in classroom 601 even more oppressive.

There was a moment when Zheng Qing really hoped the school would let the students sign a higher order Silence Contract, which could modify people’s memories and eliminate the aftermath of this incident from the soul level. But he also knew that this possibility was very small. The use of a high order Silence Contract, similar to using high-level magic, requires submitting an application to the relevant departments of the Alliance, especially when it involves the soul of a wizard, which requires the signature of consent from Danhag Supreme Court.

Even with the influence of the First University, coupled with the prestige of a legendary presence, it is hard to make Danhag submit easily in a short time. This is not only because someone in the school is pulling strings but also because Old Yao is indeed a demon, and the Danhag Supreme Court is notoriously conservative and stubborn, unwilling to change its stance for the sake of a legend’s reputation nor compromise under external pressure.

Being able to withstand the pressure from the First University and a Legendary Wizard would instead highlight Danhag’s independence and strengthen its voice in the Wizard’s Code.

From another perspective, if they could use this matter to make the First University compromise in some way, allowing Danhag to extend its hand into a previously governed forbidden area, it might be more in line with the interests of those old conservatives.

So from the beginning, the school didn’t plan to escalate this ’small disturbance’, only intending to contain the turmoil within a small range until it gradually subsided.

Furthermore, Zheng Qing has reason to suspect that Professor Yao’s advancement to Legendary Wizard somehow facilitated the school’s somewhat ’perfunctory’ attitude.

Accusing a Big Wizard and accusing a Legendary presence are two completely different concepts. If a Legendary Witch Demon from the Land of Desolation intends to join Alpha Fortress, the Beta Town Post might spend an entire month variedly praising this ’bloodless victory’ and the sobriety and wisdom of that Legendary Witch Demon.

Change of position, change of perspective.

It was inherently a very normal thing, not to be surprised.

The conspiracy theories spiraling in his mind and the eerie silence in the classroom intertwined, creating a slight sense of suffocation.

This oppressive feeling persisted until Tang Dun brought the dean’s office’s order into the classroom, which slightly relieved it.

”This meeting will be chaired by me and Student Jiang Yu.”

Tang Dun stood on the podium, his square face and articulate voice inexplicably inspiring a sense of conviction: ”... Professor Yao is presiding over a large magic project related to world revival, time is tight... and not even half a month into the school year, we’ve already had three—uh, this is the fourth class meeting, he said there’s no more to advise us on, so the next few meetings will be arranged by ourselves.”

”Coward!” A stick figure behind the door shouted.

Immediately, it was silenced by glue thrown from the front row of the classroom—Jiang Yu discreetly put away the law book, stood up, walked to the podium, and quietly discussed today’s meeting arrangement with Tang Dun.

Professor Yao didn’t come.

The monitors were discussing the agenda.

The atmosphere in the classroom suddenly relaxed considerably.

It was as if the curtains of a dark room were pulled apart, allowing brilliant sunlight to stream through the window, instantly adding a touch of vitality and freshness to the entire room.

Zheng Qing seemed to hear everyone exhale in unison.

He quite understood this mentality of everyone.

”A large magic project related to world revival?” Xin Fat Man slumped in the chair without any posture—this was a stark contrast to his demeanor just a minute ago—scratched his chin impolitely: ”Feels kinda familiar.”

”Most likely the Black Prison World Revival Plan,” Zhang Ji Xin, sitting upright like a model student, glanced at the fat man with a frown: ”When the professor isn’t around, we should hold ourselves to a stricter standard... Hmm, by the way, didn’t you find the atmosphere in the classroom just a bit bizarre earlier? Is it because everyone knows Old Yao can’t be the vice principal anymore?”

The other hunters from the Absolution Hunting Team exchanged subtle glances. From the look of it, the red-faced male wizard didn’t seem to know what happened the other night.

”Why are you becoming so serious,” Xin Fat Man laughed it off, easily diverting Zhang Ji Xin’s attention: ”Did your brother ask you to behave better so as not to embarrass him? Well, you are Lei Zhe’s brother after all... Interested in helping me interview him?”

”No interest! I’ve got nothing to do with my brother!” Zhang Ji Xin’s face darkened a bit, adding some weight to his tone: ”I’ve always been like this... You mean I wasn’t serious before?”

This rhetorical question made the other three warlocks chuckle. Zhang Ji Xin also realized the humor in his own words and joined in the laughter.

The atmosphere in the corner mirrored that of the entire classroom.

”Wait, just now Tang Dun said ’the next few meetings will be arranged by ourselves’, does that mean Old Yao won’t be picking people to analyze their line drawings on stage?” Zheng Qing suddenly realized a beneficial point and couldn’t help sharing it with his companions.

”Old Yao won’t, but the two monitors will.” Xiao Xiao mercilessly countered: ”In name, they host the class meetings, but the agenda and content are long pre-arranged... Do you prefer Jiang Yu listening to your analysis of the line drawing from below the stage, or standing beside you while you analyze it?”

The little joy Zheng Qing just felt was instantly extinguished.
