High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1924: Chapter 145: An Unexpected Visitor at the Class Meeting (Happy Year of the Tiger)

”Quiet!”

On the podium, Tang Dun had to shout loudly to maintain the order that was gradually getting out of control: ”...Now, we will start roll call. Those whose names are called, say ’here.’ Don’t pretend not to have heard! Liu Fei Fei...”

Li Meng propped her cheek with one hand, her little short legs shaking under the table, listening to Tang Dun’s hoarse yelling from the podium while her eyes stared blankly outside the classroom door. Her mind was full of thoughts about how she could escape her cousin’s ’rules’ after the class meeting and sneak away to the pedestrian street to play with Su Ya.

Lin Guo was too dull, just knowing to read books and conduct experiments all day.

Zhu Si was a fun companion, but ever since a piece of ruby appeared on her forehead, her size fluctuated unpredictably. Li Meng didn’t want to play with her friends only for them suddenly to turn into adults and then back into children.

Su Ya was still the most interesting one, with a tail that was fun, and ears that were fun as well.

Thinking along these lines, the responses of her classmates echoed around her ears, mingling with pleasant warm magic power that swirled around, like a strong sleep-inducing potion, making the little witch feel drowsy, almost forgetting her initial idea—she was never good at solving problems, only at creating them.

”Li Meng!”

Tang Dun’s authoritative voice came from the podium.

”Here!” The little witch lazily replied, her eyes half-closed, raising her arm and waving it to show the teacher she was not asleep.

Just then, she caught a glimpse of a flash of white light from the corner of her eye, darting across the classroom door from left to right.

Swoosh!

Li Meng was taken aback, her half-closed eyes opening slightly. There was nothing white at the door, and her suspicious eyelids slowly drooped again, assuming she had just had a momentary illusion.

But immediately, swoosh, there was another flash of white light across the door, this time from right to left.

”Hey!”

The little witch suddenly sat up straight, pointed outside the door, and shouted loudly. Her exclamation stunned the entire classroom into silence, interrupting the roll call that was proceeding smoothly.

”Li Meng?!” Jiang Yu lightly scolded from the podium, ”Sit quietly, we’re having a class meeting, why are you shouting?”

”There’s something at the door!” Li Meng affirmed loudly, pointing outside.

The two monitors looked at the classroom door in confusion, while other classmates followed the direction the little witch pointed, stretching their necks like geese reaching for food.

But there was nothing at the doorway. The wizards who had been sneaking around outside classroom 601 had dispersed like wild birds and beasts since their respective class meetings had started. The corridor was quiet, without even a shadow in sight.

”Did you dream it?” Zheng Qing suggested kindly from the back row.

The class suddenly understood, breaking the silence with a burst of laughter. Jiang Yu glared at the little witch, signaling her to behave.

”I wasn’t asleep!” Li Meng cried out, turning to glare fiercely at Zheng Qing while defending herself: ”I really saw a white thing pass by the door... twice!”

She raised two fingers to emphasize.

”Okay, okay, we’ll investigate this matter later.”

Tang Dun placated the little witch with perfunctory reassurance, while picking up the notepad in his hand, clearing his throat: ”Next, we’ll move on to the second item on the class meeting agenda—about the reissuance of the Merlin Medal from the opening ceremony... Well, everyone has heard about that during the opening ceremony... According to the documents provided by the Mage Alliance and First University, the Atonement Hunting Team from First University showed bravery and tenacity in guarding the Black Prison war, not fearing death and demonstrating the sense of mission and responsibility of the new generation young wizards. Hence, they’re awarded the Merlin Silver Medal collectively... During this class meeting, certificates and documents related to that are being handed out. Let’s welcome the hunters from the Atonement Hunting Team to the stage with warm applause!”

The classroom erupted in applause.

Amidst the clapping, Zheng Qing tilted his head slightly toward Doctor Xiao: ”Collective Merlin Silver Medal? I nearly forgot... How come I haven’t seen the medal yet?”

Xiao Xiao adjusted her glasses, pretending not to hear the Hunting Team Leader’s query.

Zheng Qing wanted to ask more questions but was jostled by Zhang Ji Xin and Xin Fat Man behind him, forcing him to follow the crowd toward the podium amidst laughter, while occasionally having to respond to classmates’ playful pats and congratulations.

Li Meng sulkily watched the beaming Zheng Qing, wishing she could jump up and punch the warlock’s ridiculous nose. Unfortunately, she was also a formal member of the Atonement Hunting Team; she had to follow the others onto the podium to receive the classmates’ cheers.

The little witch, feeling glum, stood at the end of the line, head drooping, listening to Tang Dun’s monotonous blessings, glancing sideways at the classroom door.

Then she spotted a familiar furry head at the bottom right corner of the door, peeking into the room.

”Poseidon!”

Li Meng finally saw the culprit for her ridicule and, heedless of the ongoing award ceremony, jumped up like a rabbit, darting toward the door to grasp at the little fox peering inside.

Poseidon flicked its ears backward, wagged its big tail, and with a slight exertion of its hind legs, easily dodged the little witch’s grasp, sliding under her and darting toward Zheng Qing’s position.

As it ran, it chirped ceaselessly.

The classroom plunged into chaos once more.

Sounds of curiosity, screams, joy, and calls mixed with the noises of desks and chairs bumping, the fox’s cries, and the little witch’s angry curses, echoing throughout. This time, despite using all his strength, Tang Dun couldn’t contain the uproar and finally chose to give up.

Bang!

The little fox crashed into Zheng Qing’s arms like a cannonball, almost knocking the breath out of him.

”What are you doing here?”

Zheng Qing, rubbing his chest that was hit hard and gasping for air, looked innocently at the two monitors beside him, striving to demonstrate with his eyes and expressions his innocence regarding the little creature’s mischief.

Chirp chirp chirp!

The little fox squatted in Zheng Qing’s arms, raising its little paws haphazardly, wagging its big tail side to side, chirping happily.

Zheng Qing squinted, listening to its disjointed description, and eventually comprehended: ”You mean, ’over there’ called me over for something?”

Chirp!

The little fox nodded contentedly, as if saying, ’Am I not amazing?’ ’Praise me!’

Zheng Qing adroitly scratched its ears, puzzled. The ’there’ mentioned by the little fox referred to the Greenhill Mansion, and the only person who could command the fox to find him at the Greenhill Mansion was none other than Su Shijun.
