High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1935: Chapter 156: At Dinner

On the Black Prison battlefield, Zheng Qing once heard Vice Principal Ruoyu say something.

The gist was that ordinary people, when faced with legends, often choose to look up at them. After looking up for a long time, ordinary people lose the ability to see legends as equals — this is also why in reality, only legends can contend with legends.

Back to school.

Faced with a genuine legendary presence, even if it was just a projection, the students of Astronomy Class 08-1 struggled to muster the courage to resist.

Thus, the awkward and questioning atmosphere Zheng Qing had anticipated in class was nonexistent. The entire Curse Course proceeded with rare efficiency and calm, without causing a ripple.

This atmosphere even spread to the Fu Lu Class in the afternoon, and it wasn’t until dinner time that Zheng Qing heard a classmate sighing with amazement, ”Today’s learning efficiency was surprisingly high... If every day were like this, we wouldn’t need to worry about not getting the registered wizard certificate in three years.”

”You’re dreaming!” someone immediately ridiculed beside them, ”Only a true bookworm like you could ignore the bizarre atmosphere in the academy right now, full of thoughts about learning efficiency and exams. If every day were like this, the First University of the Mage Alliance should be renamed the First University of the Demon Alliance.”

”Silence!”

”Shut up, don’t want to live?”

Several other voices almost spoke in unison, suppressing the ridiculing voice. An unexpected patch of silence appeared in the cafeteria, but it lasted only a short while before the clattering of spoons, chopsticks, forks, plates, and bowls resumed, and the young wizards’ chatter became even more lively than before.

Zheng Qing didn’t turn around, but he vaguely felt the cautious gazes from dozens of eyes at nearby tables, seemingly searching for the source of the ridicule.

Zhang Ji Xin arrived at the cafeteria amidst this atmosphere.

”Good evening!”

The red-faced male wizard sat down heavily in the empty seat next to Zheng Qing, almost pushing him off, his eyes wandering over the table: ”Is there anything to eat... I’m starving.”

”If you’re any later, all you’d catch is the northwest wind.” Zheng Qing shook his head, pulling a large plate of bacon, scrambled eggs, and sliced bread from in front of Xin Fat Man, pushing it under Zhang Ji Xin’s nose: ”Did you catch a starving ghost?”

”That’s my bacon!” The fat wizard grumbled discontentedly from across the table, knocking on his spoon.

”You have other food.” Zheng Qing comforted him calmly.

”Starv... Starving Ghost?” Zhang Ji Xin, chewing ravenously, asked with his head bowed, his voice muffled: ”You’re joking about starvation in this place?”

”Swallow your food before you speak!” Across from him, Doctor Xiao pushed a bowl of millet porridge in front of the red-faced male wizard with a face full of disgust.

Zhang Ji Xin grabbed the porridge, gulping several mouthfuls, then patted his chest and thumped it a few times before catching his breath: ”Thanks! I almost choked. I was asking if there are really such creatures like starving ghosts in the school.”

”There are definitely some in the lab.” Doctor Xiao gave a definitive answer.

”It was just a metaphor.” Zheng Qing rolled his eyes, tapping his chopsticks on the plate in front of him to draw his companions’ attention: ”I meant to ask the elder why he was in such a hurry just now.”

”Hmm?”

Zhang Ji Xin wrapped a few pieces of bacon with bread, took a big bite, then turned his head to glance at the young cost student: ”You don’t know?”

Zheng Qing blinked innocently, uncertainly: ”Should I know?”

The red-faced male wizard chewed with bulging cheeks, chomping down hard, and Zheng Qing watched with some worry that he might break his teeth. It wasn’t until he craned his neck and swallowed the food that Zheng Qing breathed a sigh of relief.

”Next month is the Moon Hunting!” Zhang Ji Xin emphasized as he put a fried egg in the bread: ”The School Hunting Competition! Doesn’t this make you aware of something?”

Zheng Qing glanced at Zhang Ji Xin, then turned to look at Xiao Xiao.

”Are we participating in the School Hunting Competition this year?” he tentatively asked.

”What kind of question is that!” Zhang Ji Xin slammed the sandwich he was about to eat back onto the plate, glaring at the captain of the Absolution Hunting Team: ”Are you not planning to participate in the Hunting Competition?”

”No, no, no,” Zheng Qing carefully leaned back, afraid that food might splatter on his robe, denying repeatedly: ”I mean... Didn’t the Hunting Committee ban us from participating in the Hunting Competition?”

As he spoke, he glanced at Xiao Xiao.

This information was something Doctor Xiao had casually mentioned to him while organizing the application materials for the Absolution Hunting Team before they fell asleep a few days ago.

Hearing Zheng Qing’s retort, Zhang Ji Xin widened his eyes in surprise: ”Where did this rumor come from?”

”He misunderstood.” Before Zheng Qing could shirk responsibility, Xiao Xiao adjusted his glasses, casting a speechless glance at the young cost student: ”I told him before that the Hunting Committee banned him from using the Charm Gun in the School Hunting Competition...”

One was banning the hunting team from the competition.

The other was banning a certain hunter in the hunting team from using a particular weapon.

The difference was so significant that Zheng Qing felt his face swell as if it were burning, and he muttered instinctively, ”They won’t let me use the Charm Gun? That’s not fair.”

”Letting you use the Charm Gun is the greatest unfairness.” Xin Fat Man, sitting askew, finally found the opportunity to counter, mocking unreservedly: ”Have you forgotten Sepulano’s experience last year? Of the registered hunters in the school, one after another, who can withstand your shot?”

Zheng Qing was rendered speechless.

After a pause, he turned to look at Zhang Ji Xin again: ”So... Have you submitted the application form to participate in the School Hunting Competition?”

This time, Zhang Ji Xin wasn’t angry.

He slowly finished the sandwich he had just made, then looked up at Xiao Xiao, full of sincerity: ”Doctor, let’s change the captain.”

”Great! I wholeheartedly support it!” Xin Fat Man, eager for some chaos, responded loudly.

Xiao Xiao raised his eyelids, his gaze shooting over the top of his glasses as he glanced at his companions, snorting: ”Let me remind you, most of the hunting team’s expenses are currently covered by D&K... and the substantial donation from Jiang Da Headmaster when he joined the team also has a ’defined purpose.’ Who’s going to be responsible for these expenditures if the captain is changed?”

He emphasized the phrase ’defined purpose’ especially heavily.

The two warlocks who had just thought of rebellion immediately hung their heads, one resuming to gnaw on his bacon and the other meekly stirring his pumpkin porridge with a spoon.

Then, Doctor Xiao looked at Zheng Qing: ”I handle preparation of materials and submission of application forms for the hunting team. The elder is responsible for external relations, including hunting team training, hunting ground borrowing, finding guides for the hunting team, and so on. Although you’re a hands-off manager, you can’t be completely clueless about everything... Even if you want to be a mascot, you should at least wiggle a bit in the trap to show your dedication.”
