High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1907: Chapter 128: The Reformer

Just like the sun shines, rising in the east and setting in the west.

People always tend to overlook things that are too ordinary and natural. Perhaps it’s not until they gasp for breath that they realize the preciousness of air; not until thirst torments them do they feel the rarity of water; and it’s not until the disappearance of general magic do they appreciate the convenience brought by magic.

The last sentence was something Zheng Qing had just come to realize.

The whole Buji Island is enveloped in a huge general magic array, which Zheng Qing knew from the first day he entered the school. This magic array works quietly, silently maintaining a powerful magic that allows wizards speaking different languages to communicate fluently face-to-face without worrying about being misunderstood.

It is precisely because it is so quiet that often everyone tends to ignore its existence.

Just like the small incantation attached to the Beta Town Post, if it weren’t for Xin Fat Man’s reminder, Zheng Qing would never have cared why the same newspaper could be read effortlessly by both the Blue Fatty from Europa and himself from the Pingyang Prefecture.

Of course, just like when you walk on familiar streets and occasionally look up at the sky to see a completely different scenery and feel pleasantly surprised, people’s minds often light up with one or two inspirations, flashing by like meteors, making one feel for a moment as if they were the child of destiny, seeing the ultimate truth of the universe.

Unfortunately, those thoughts are but products of the collision between order and chaos at the edges of thought.

Once seized, they may be abandoned after pondering for a moment if they feel worthless, or they may give birth to truths that change the history and destiny of mankind—it’s said that Newton being hit on the head by an apple belongs to this kind of situation.

But more often, more people, and more thoughts, will just flash through everyone’s minds, not stirring even a ripple in the long river of destiny.

Zheng Qing’s sentiments regarding general magic belong to the latter.

After briefly marveling at the convenience of general magic, the young cost student’s attention was drawn back to the hidden meaning behind the shocking news article in the newspaper.

”So what do you think of this proposal?”

Zheng Qing pointed to the newspaper in the Fat Wizard’s pocket, curiously asking, ”Or rather, how does your editorial department interpret this proposal? What about the Doctor? What’s his take?”

Saying this, he instinctively looked around, trying to find that familiar figure.

Li Meng was holding Poseidon, attempting to get the Little Fox to shake paws amicably with the white dove on her shoulder; Jiang Yu stood beside her, holding a notepad, looking around as if counting heads. Noticing the gaze from the boy, she nodded slightly in acknowledgment.

Zheng Qing hurriedly nodded in return.

A little further away, under a blooming mistletoe, Liu Fei Fei and Nicholas were maintaining a subtle distance, pointing at something in the crowd of freshmen downstairs, appearing joyful. This should be Nicholas’s first time attending the opening ceremony on the second floor, which indeed was worth his happiness.

Further away, at the edge of Astronomy Class 08-1, also the edge of Jiuyou Academy, stood Matthew Karen. He quietly stayed in the shadow of a tall column, like a statue. Since Sir Friedman’s defeat to Augustus in competition, this young blood race has become particularly low-key, as if he became transparent, much like Sir Friedman’s state in Alpha Fortress.

Zheng Qing saw many familiar and unfamiliar figures as far as he could see, except for Xiao Xiao.

”The Doctor went to gather fieldwork.”

Noting the young cost student’s searching gaze, the Fat Wizard explained, ”You know, he often needs to complete some recording tasks... and part of the most important tasks is evaluating and collecting information on freshmen every year. The opening ceremony has the most freshmen, and the elements are preserved most completely.”

Zheng Qing shrugged, not bothered by what elements the Fat Wizard mentioned.

”As for that proposal...”

Xin Fat Man, at some point, took out a box of popcorn chicken and started munching on it. After chewing for a while, he spoke vaguely, ”Everyone’s views differ... part of the editorial department believes this was just Sepulano’s way of easing conflicts between Alpha and Jiuyou, choosing a small point of conflict to trigger an explosion, thus showing his toughness to those within Alpha while expressing a gentle attitude to Uncle Zhang Zhi.”

Uncle Zhang Zhi is Zhang Ji Xin’s brother and the new Lei Zhe of the Sacred Will.

Hearing this, Zheng Qing nodded: ”Makes some sense, at least this way, the attention is redirected to the Bell Lake Fishman instead of causing a scene like last year’s school hunting meet.”

During the school hunting meet last year, students from Alpha and Jiuyou had a big fight at the venue, causing the school to be furious, and many student union and club leaders were implicated—including the quick replacement of the previous Lei Zhe and Augustus, which were related to this incident.

”What about Zhang Ji Xin?” Mentioning Lei Zhe, Zheng Qing remembered another teammate of the Atonement Hunting Team.

”Probably went to find his brother.” The Fat Wizard shrugged, shoving another handful of popcorn chicken into his mouth, then carelessly patted Zheng Qing’s shoulder with his greasy hand: ”... Now you see who’s the most reliable! When you’re alone, only I stayed by your side unwaveringly.”

”You didn’t have anywhere else to go.” Zheng Qing angrily avoided the chubby hand, secretly feeling a surge of impulse to roast it and feed it to the fishmen in Lin Zhong Lake.

”How could you say that!”

The Fat Wizard showed a slight displeasure on his face, but immediately remembered the unfinished topic: ”... um, some other people in the editorial department think this proposal is part of Sepulano’s reform plan, or rather, the beginning.”

”Reform?” Zheng Qing was indeed attracted by this word.

”A reform of the Hemophilia.”

Xin Fat Man shoved a few more pieces of popcorn chicken into his mouth, licking his greasy fingers, satisfied, he nodded: ”Everyone knows that the Hemophilia is like a pool of blood mixed with baicalin powder, turned into a piece of blood tofu, hardened to an extreme internally... no matter who comes to power, reform is necessary to mend the internal rifts of the Hemophilia, ensuring it doesn’t split apart. It’s said, just said, that Sepulano even plans to change Augustus’s title.”

Baicalin powder is an excellent coagulant, which is a common knowledge in Potion Making and known to Zheng Qing.

But Sepulano wanting to change Augustus’s title was something he heard for the first time, and he found it rather novel.

”What does he want to change it to?” The young wizard curiously asked.

”Basalisa... no, Baseless? Seems to be that name.” The Fat Wizard tapped his head, answering unsurely, suddenly shouting: ”Hey, hey, control your son! He almost bit my finger off!”

Poseidon had somehow escaped Li Meng’s clutches, dashed back to Zheng Qing’s side, and was now bouncing around, trying to snatch the popcorn chicken from his hand.

Zheng Qing was startled by Xin Fat Man’s words, forgetting the other question he had just thought of.
