High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1941: Chapter 162: Mutated Getrassi

Zheng Qing always checked the almanac before going out.

Including today.

September 18th, Friday.

Lunar calendar July 30th

— Suitable for: Excavation, burial; Avoid: traveling.

But being in school, how could he not go out on a Friday? Besides, the old almanac isn’t always right about everything; as long as one is careful, the taboos it warns about wouldn’t really bring much bad luck.

Moreover, Zheng Qing had always interpreted ”traveling” as long-distance trips. In his view, as long as he stayed at the school, didn’t leave campus, and didn’t travel far, he wouldn’t violate the taboos in the old almanac.

This unfounded confidence lasted until the end of the day on Friday night.

To be precise, it was 9:27 in the evening.

Less than half an hour before the Absolution Hunting Team’s night training would begin.

Earlier, the seven young wizards of the Absolution Hunting Team had confirmed their training plan for the night, veering away from the conservative and moderate plans of the previous two times, taking the howling female demon under the night and the goblins hovering at the edge of the hunting ground as their hunting targets.

Even to Zheng Qing, this change couldn’t be considered earth-shattering.

Moreover, their improved plan was also simple — find the mourning female demon, capture it, and hand it over to the school — if the academy was willing to pay for it, even better.

As for those goblins, that was like picking up rabbits while gathering hay; if they got them, they would count it as profit.

After all, a group of magical creatures that hadn’t dared to approach the Hunting Team for two days, driven by Furry Bean and Tuan Tuan, theoretically shouldn’t pose much risk — until these young wizards found that the wild dogs, which could originally be dealt with using a few small magic spells, transformed into a group of ferocious, sharp-toothed horses.

If there were some wizards in tattered robes riding on those black horses, Zheng Qing would almost mistake it for the Mad Hunt during the black tides returning once more.

”Furry Bean, are they really the same goblins you were driving away two days ago?” The captain of the Absolution Hunting Team crouched down, staring directly at the grey-skinned Gouzi.

Gouzi appeared solemn, meowing an affirmative response — however, the tail wagging happily behind it somewhat undermined this affirmation.

”But how could a group of dogs suddenly transform?” The red-faced male wizard scratched his head, appearing puzzled and unable to comprehend.

Xin Fat Man glanced at him disdainfully, ”Didn’t the doctor mention before when the Hunting Team was moving that goblins normally look like dogs... but if they harbor malice towards certain people, they transform into another form.”

The red-faced male wizard’s complexion deepened.

”I think the elder meant to say that there should be some limit to the goblins’ transformation.” Jiang Yu timely spoke up, rescuing Zhang Ji Xin from his predicament, ”Like a goblin transforming might become a Houdou, but not a Giant Dragon.”

”Yes, yes, that’s exactly what I meant.” The red-faced male wizard’s face visibly lightened, looking gratefully toward the witch, then shot a glance at Fat Man, ”...Do you think I didn’t hear what the doctor said earlier?”

”Hard to say.” The Fat Wizard huffed but ultimately didn’t dwell on this question, instead shifting to another point of suspicion, ”Are we sure those creatures aren’t contaminated?”

He was referring to the matter of the goblins’ eyes turning red after transformation.

”The doctor tested it then, and no demonic aura was emitted.” Dylan showed a certain sensitivity on this topic, ”Red eyes aren’t the only characteristic of demons; rabbits have red eyes too.”

While a few of them were chatting, the subject of the conversation, Xiao Xiao, didn’t pay attention to the others’ idle talk but rather scrutinized Zheng Qing with a serious gaze, examining him carefully.

Zheng Qing felt uncomfortable under his gaze.

”What are you staring at?” he asked subconsciously.

”Checking to see... if you’re injured?” Doctor Xiao adjusted his glasses, seemingly pondering his words, paused, and then added, ”The kind that bleeds.”

Zheng Qing’s face immediately darkened.

Although he understood the reason for the doctor’s question, it still left a somewhat unpleasant taste.

”No!” The young student on a scholarship replied irritably, ”I didn’t even scrape my skin... I noticed right from the start and checked specifically!”

One’s family knows their own condition best.

Aware of the peculiarity of his own blood, Zheng Qing was more vigilant than others. When the goblins suddenly mutated and went mad, the warlock immediately suspected he might have been injured and bled somewhere. After secretly checking himself thoroughly, he confirmed he hadn’t shed a drop of blood.

”Indeed, it’s strange.” The short warlock naturally skipped over this topic, turning his gaze to the other hunters, ”The monitor’s remarks earlier were very logical; a goblin cannot mutate into a Fire Dragon, which doesn’t align with the theory of magic conservation... and, did you notice the sounds they made while charging?”

”Who would notice such details!” Zheng Qing muttered quietly, frowning as he wracked his brain to recall the recent events.

At the time, the seven hunters of the Absolution Hunting Team had formed the Xi Suxing formation, creeping stealthily toward the direction of the mourning female demon’s howls — they had just recently mastered this formation, most suitable for seven people to use — then suddenly, Furry Bean meowed, breaking the night’s silence.

Following Furry Bean’s call, green glowing eyes emerged in the night.

Tuan Tuan crouched on Xin Fat Man’s head, arching its back, producing a threatening growl in its throat; Furry Bean also abandoned its previous friskiness, meowing incessantly as it dashed away from Zheng Qing’s feet.

The next second, the gray dog leaped out from a corner of the distant bushes, pouncing on the intruders.

Jiang Yu cast a Lighting Spell ’the moon is bright’; under the cold magical moonlight, they revealed one black-gray figure after another, their bodies seemingly condensed from mist, possessing the elongated cheeks and sharp ears characteristic of canine creatures, eyes ghostly green, running silently.

”Goblins!”

Zhang Ji Xin shouted, rapidly issuing commands: ”Monitor, maintain the Lighting Spell! Doctor, captain, cast the Binding Spell, cover the entire field! Fat Man, release the Chaos Spell, aim at their gathering spot! The noble, along with the swordsman, stay alert for any prey that might attack!”

”My codename is ’Gentleman’, not noble!” Dylan corrected with a little irritation but also some glee, but he accepted the assignment from the chief hunter, disappearing into the team alongside Blue Bird.

It must be admitted, as the chief hunter, Zhang Ji Xin’s performance was competent.

Even though they unexpectedly collided with the prey, under his rational arrangement, only after a few rounds of spells, the seven hunters had encircled dozens of goblins atop a small mound.

A dim crescent moon hung in the sky, distant cries of the mourning female demon intermittently echoed; all of it seemed to set the backdrop for the goblins at the end of their road.

Then, under everyone’s watchful eyes, the leading goblin’s eyes were the first to turn red.
