High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1905: Chapter 126: Second Opening Ceremony

The next morning when Zheng Qing woke up, he had already forgotten the leniency towards Taozhi’s Help from the night before.

Taozhi’s Help still had to die.

But Zheng Qing had no tolerance for the shadow that kept causing trouble either.

However, he couldn’t yet find a better solution—the common magic for dealing with ghosts and curses had no effect on Zheng Qing’s shadow, and stomping on it or spitting at it was just ridiculous.

The shadow couldn’t care less about the Warlock’s various attempts, and it only responded with rude gestures under Zheng Qing’s feet when it was bored, showing disdain.

If more dangerous Black Magic were used, not only could it harm Zheng Qing himself, but it would also draw unwanted attention from the school, which wasn’t worth it.

After repeated discussions with Doctor Xiao, Zheng Qing finally determined that the only thing he could currently do was to stay in the shadows of other objects as much as possible in the next few days to cover his own shadow and restrain its mischievous behavior.

For instance, walking under the shade of trees, along the walls, or sitting in places away from windows with no light during class, etc.

In Xin Fat Man’s words, it was like putting the shadow in prison.

In this way, he barely regained a bit of initiative.

Dylan lamented that Zheng Qing had lived like a ghost and vampire from the Middle Ages.

This was the first time the young cost student eagerly anticipated the weekend, because according to last week’s agreement with Su Man, Su Shijun would definitely be in the lab this weekend to help him get rid of his shadow.

Time flew by quickly amidst Zheng Qing’s constant remembrance and heavy studies.

In the blink of an eye, the second weekend of his sophomore year at the First University was just around the corner. However, before enjoying a moment of leisure on the weekend, these young wizards still had a very important task to participate in.

That was the opening ceremony for the 2009-2010 school year.

Last year’s opening ceremony had been delayed until the end of September due to a series of factors—including the disturbance in the Silent Forest, the unexpected accident of the entrance plane, and the absence of school high-level officials, among others.

This year, it was held half a month earlier than last year, but compared to the usual opening week ceremony, it still seemed a little late.

The students’ private speculations were wide-ranging.

Some said the one-week delay was to coordinate with the sophomore trial, as a very few students were injured in the trial grounds and needed time to recuperate; others speculated it was due to personnel changes at the school, as a new vice principal had not been confirmed since Vice Principal Shi Hui left, and the Professor Joint Meeting might be urgently consulting on this matter to confirm the list of personnel hosting the ’Soul Baptism’ ceremony; there were also those who believed external instabilities were the main reason for the delay.

For instance, the Northern District Wizards who were always instigating equal rights movements, the Mouse Clan under Alliance investigation, and the Silent Forest, which had experienced two Black Tide outbreaks last year, seemed to show some disturbing signs due to consecutive disasters.

Of course, the school authorities, as usual, did not provide a specific reason, only indicating in the announcement that due to ’technical reasons,’ the opening ceremony was set for September 11th, the second Friday of the school year, which was today.

Early in the morning, the school was filled with various signs of the upcoming ceremony—

A light rain fell in the morning, and almost everyone saw the huge rainbow that spanned between the teaching building and the library; the post-rain sunshine was very comfortable, neither too strong nor too dim, giving off a serene and bright feeling; off-season flocks of birds appeared in every corner of the school, including not only the common magpies, orioles, swallows, and pigeons but also flocks of geese, colorful peacocks, graceful swans, and more.

Xin Fat Man told Zheng Qing in Alchemy class that before he came to the classroom, he saw an Azure Phoenix perching on the fake mountain in front of the library grooming its feathers, its long phoenix tail dragging on the ground, illuminating the shadow on the ground. More importantly, this phoenix allowed the school’s young wizards to touch it, regardless of their gender!

”If time wasn’t limited, I definitely wouldn’t touch it just once!” The Fat Wizard boasted to his companions, showing off a lingering gleam on his hand as evidence of touching the phoenix’s tail feathers.

”It’s not even a Unicorn, is that worth showing off?” Zheng Qing said unyieldingly, but his heart itched like a cat’s paw scratching.

He hadn’t yet had the chance to closely interact with such a miraculous big bird. As soon as the class ended, he rushed out of the room eagerly. Unfortunately, by the time he reached the lake, the fake mountain was already empty.

Not only was the young cost student sighing in frustration in front of the fake mountain about his bad luck, but many other students were scouring around Lin Zhong Lake, hoping to spot traces of other magical creatures. Unfortunately, all they found, besides some water buffalo and Longevity tortoises in the grass, were piles of fishmen excrement left on the shore.

This emotional agitation continued into the afternoon, leading to a particularly scattered order during practice class. The students gathered in small groups of threes and fives, discussing the Mouse People, the Northern District Wizards, the big battle in the Black Prison, the pre-opening trials, and who might serve as the new vice principal of the school.

At first, Hilda tried to maintain order, but when several warlocks discussed the performance of the hunting teams in the Zeus Cup and the comments of certain famous diviners on the hunting teams, the teaching assistant finally gave up his efforts and happily joined the warlocks’ chat.

Of course, Zheng Qing suspected the main reason he did this was that it was just the start of the school year, and the students hadn’t learned many new spells, while last year’s students had performed very well in practice, deserving of rewards; combined with the restless mood, the class’s efficiency dropped significantly, so he might as well please everyone a bit.

The opening ceremony was scheduled for six o’clock in the afternoon, and like previous years, it was held in the First Hall behind Hua Gate at the entrance of Buji Island.

Zheng Qing didn’t have time for a proper dinner, so he grabbed two chicken wraps and hurried to the Pet Garden.

Because the pets also needed to attend the opening ceremony.

And unlike last year, as a sophomore ’veteran’ and with Poseidon being a two-year ’veteran pet’ at the school, they needed to stay with Zheng Qing on the second floor of the First Hall, keeping a sufficient distance from the freshmen on the first floor.

”Why aren’t there any Troll Elves this year?”

When Zheng Qing appeared in the second-floor corridor holding Poseidon, he happened to see Xin Fat Man sticking his big butt out, half his body leaning over the railing, loudly complaining about this year’s arrangement: ”I thought last year’s grass skirt dance at the ceremony by the Troll Elves was very distinctive, and I planned to write a small feature on it this year!”

”Luckily, luckily, no tardiness!” Zheng Qing let out a relieved sigh, let go of the Little Fox, watched it dart into the group of witches, and pursed his lips before his eyes returned to the Fat Wizard’s behind.

To be precise, the newspaper sticking out of Xin Fat Man’s pocket.
