High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1911: Chapter 132: The Severance

Single, unmarried, mother.

Work, life, study, childcare.

Every word in these two sentences made Zheng Qing break out in a cold sweat, always feeling that the Big Wizard behind the desk was hinting at something, but he couldn’t grasp it for the moment.

Damn it, you’re a Big Wizard. Even without servants by your side, can’t you find a way to get fresh juice or hot tea?!

What about tea brewing magic?

What about the sprites serving you?

The young cost student, while grumbling deep down, tried hard to squeeze out a somewhat ingratiating smile, echoing repeatedly: ”No, no, it’s very thoughtful, very thoughtful.”

”Oh? You mean I’ve handled everything well myself?” the Witch raised an eyebrow: ”...Bought a coffee grinder without buying coffee beans, bought tea bags without buying teacups... Do you think such a life is thoughtful?”

Zheng Qing felt like smoke was coming out of the top of his head.

”Thoughtful... not... perhaps?” the young cost student answered with difficulty, while realizing he couldn’t let Su Shijun continue to control the conversation, or he would be overwhelmed sooner or later.

”Where is everyone else?”

He steadied himself and quickly changed the subject, pretending to casually say: ”I didn’t see anyone coming in, even the parrot in the hall is gone... Have they all gone to the opening ceremony?”

After guessing, he couldn’t help but laugh at himself.

The parrots, on the other hand, always liked the bustle, so it wasn’t strange for them to join the fun at the opening ceremony. But the researchers of the Institute of Applied Magic were not students and typically wouldn’t participate in such school activities—rarely even the school hunting party.

Unexpectedly, his guess was correct this time.

”That’s right, they did go to the opening ceremony.” The owner of the laboratory waved a hand, indicating she felt very bored: ”It’s said that the new vice-chancellor might be announced at the ceremony, and everyone is quite interested...”

Zheng Qing couldn’t help but tap his heel.

He also wanted to know who the new vice-chancellor was!

But there were more important matters at hand, so the Warlock had to suppress the restlessness in his heart and continue the tedious and nerve-wracking conversation: ”...Did Su Man and Su Ya go too?”

As the head maid of Greenhill Mansion, in Zheng Qing’s impression, Su Man mostly served beside Su Shijun. In theory, they weren’t part of the First University’s staff, so they shouldn’t be interested in the new vice-chancellor.

”There’s a minor issue at home, so I sent them back.” Su Shijun stretched lazily, indifferent to revealing her graceful curves before the Warlock.

Zheng Qing tried to maintain a fragile balance between avoiding looking and being unable to resist, natural and deliberate.

The little fox on the coffee table snorted, looking disdainfully at its own father.

This made the Warlock feel a bit embarrassed.

Bang!

A piece of parchment floated over from behind the desk, landing heavily in front of the young cost student, stirring up a small breeze that ruffled the long fur on the little fox lying on the coffee table.

”What?” Zheng Qing hesitated, not reaching out to touch the parchment immediately.

”Aren’t you here to cut the shadow?” Su Shijun adjusted her glasses and glanced at him.

The Warlock hadn’t managed to speak yet when his shadow eagerly climbed onto the coffee table, morphing into five thin fingers like octopus tentacles, rolling up the parchment.

Zheng Qing knew for the first time that his shadow could actually manipulate physical objects!

”How do you...” he gawked at his own shadow, tongue-tied, forgetting what he had just wanted to ask: ”...do that?”

The shadow said nothing, only held up the rolled parchment in front of Zheng Qing.

This made the Warlock feel a little better. If his shadow not only moved around but also flirted, Zheng Qing felt he would definitely be depressed.

”What’s so strange about this?”

Behind the desk, Su Shijun crossed a hand over her chest, using a feather pen in the other hand to scratch her chin, observing the shadow holding the parchment thoughtfully: ”It’s at least a hyperdimensional lifeform. Although it’s only from two dimensions to three, hyperdimensional is hyperdimensional... The weight of a parchment can’t measure its capacity.”

That actually makes sense.

Zheng Qing was stunned for a few seconds before lifting a hand to touch his chin, closing his gaping mouth, then looking down at the parchment in front of him.

It was a standard format contract, stipulating the rights and obligations of the three parties involved in the shadow cutting, including the authorization required by Lady Su Shijun, the ’shadow cutter,’ and the waiver of claims by Zheng Qing, the ’shadow to be cut,’ as well as the condition that the ’independent shadow’ must not harm the main body or friendly third parties, among other things.

All the clauses were laid out in great detail.

At the end of the contract, aside from the signatures required on three different copies, there were watermark spell seals in angelic script and demonic language, serving as independent third-party attestations.

Zheng Qing noticed that the signature section belonging to the shadow already had a line of blurred writing, resembling a mucous stain.

He didn’t sign immediately.

Instead, he looked up at the Witch behind the desk.

”What is this?” the Warlock asked uncertainly: ”Last year when cutting the shadow, I remember it wasn’t this complicated...”

He recalled very clearly that last year Su Shijun had taken out a laptop, and after tricking him into randomly clicking an ’×,’ the shadow mysteriously disappeared—there was no contract signed at all.

Maybe it was an illusion, but Zheng Qing thought he saw a faint embarrassment on Su Shijun’s face behind the desk.

”Why so many questions!”

The Witch’s voice sounded slightly annoyed: ”Last year... last year was a laboratory initiative! You made rational commitments by joining the project... This year, it’s you who wants to cut the shadow, and it has nothing to do with my laboratory!”

While speaking, she forcefully tossed the feather pen in her hand, hurling it towards Zheng Qing. The emerald green feather pen traced an elegant arc in mid-air, landing softly on the parchment, signing the Witch’s name in stylish cursive.

Zheng Qing shrugged.

Actually, he didn’t really care what the difference was between this year and last year. It’s just that he had some PTSD reaction in the lab space, so he ended up babbling more than usual.

After signing.

All four corners of the parchment suddenly ignited with pale flames, which in a moment turned into four tongues of fire, encircling the entire contract, burning it to black ashes from the outside in a blink of an eye.

Zheng Qing hesitated, moved aside a step, and revealed his own shadow. Even Poseidon, who had been lying on the coffee table, curiously poked his head out over the edge to take a look.
