Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 433: Chapter 236: Riding the Wave to Victory (Third Update)

Lucas Harlow tugged at the corner of his mouth, wondering who would be the ultimate winner. What’s there to be smug about?

Feeling a bit testy, he said leisurely, ”No problem, I can wait. I’ll talk to her once she’s out of the shower.”

Kenneth Osborne: ”...”

Who would have thought Lucas Harlow could be such a superstar!

So shameless!

Kenneth Osborne found himself at a loss for a solution.

Meanwhile, Lawrence Winters had arrived at Nick Zeller’s room, hurriedly saying, ”Uncle, did you give Kenneth the wrong Peach Wood Sword?”

”What do you mean, the wrong one? Did I forget to pack it? No, I distinctly remember packing it,” Nick Zeller said suspiciously, looking for his shipping slip.

Lawrence Winters shook his head, ”It’s not that you forgot; someone said the Peach Wood Sword you gave is more valuable than the entire gift box set!—How is that possible?! Did they get it wrong? It can’t be more expensive than our priciest baby full moon gift box set, right?”

With a flurry of words, Lawrence Winters asked persistently until Nick Zeller realized and said in astonishment, ”...Who’s got such an eye for this stuff? Not a regular person...”

”Kenneth said it was Cameron Spencer who said it, and he’s the big boss of a major company; he wouldn’t get it wrong, would he?” Lawrence Winters frowned at Nick Zeller, ”Uncle, is this true? That would be unfair, giving away something so expensive for free; I lost out on a lot of commissions! You can’t do this!”

Nick Zeller’s heart skipped a beat, and he asked somewhat urgently, ”You say this was Cameron Spencer? Did he say anything else?”

”What else? Isn’t this important enough? Uncle, you’re so generous! Yet you stingily treat me differently!—I demand equal treatment!” Lawrence Winters whined, tugging at Nick Zeller’s sleeve.

Nick Zeller laughed, lightly pinching her ear, jokingly saying, ”You really want equal treatment? Then when you have kids, I’ll gift you a Peach Wood Sword like this too, but don’t expect anything better.”

”Ah? There’s something better? Uncle, Uncle, how could I be the same as others? I’m your dear niece! Surely you wouldn’t give me the same as outsiders, right?” Lawrence Winters immediately changed her tune, smiling ingratiatingly.

”Haha, that depends on your performance!” Nick Zeller laughed heartily, but his expression still bore a hint of perfunctory nature, appearing somewhat absent-minded.

Lawrence Winters noticed but said nothing more, simply replied obediently, ”I’ll definitely perform well!”

After Lawrence Winters left, Nick Zeller sat back down on the sofa, looking a bit dazed.

He had a gut feeling that Cameron Spencer’s praise might not be about the value of the Peach Wood Sword, although in the eyes of the average Celestial Path Sect practitioner, it certainly was valuable.

But to him and the old Daoist, the Peach Wood Sword was nothing to speak of.

Suddenly, Nick Zeller stood up, walked to the bed, crouched down, and pulled out an old small box from under the bed.

A copper-colored old-fashioned lock hung on the box.

There’s nowhere to insert a lock core; it should be an old-style combination lock.

Nick Zeller twisted the lock a few times, then opened the box.

There weren’t many items inside, and they were all old, dating back decades.

He didn’t turn on the light; the room gradually darkened.

Nick Zeller just sat there in the dark, expressionless, hands gripping a worn-out pocket watch, which he had just taken out from the box.

...

Lawrence Winters returned to her room, seeing Kenneth Osborne with a solemn face, holding his phone, unsure of what he’s thinking.

”What’s up, Kenneth?” Lawrence Winters asked curiously.

Kenneth Osborne looked up, quickly raised his phone toward her.

The phone’s notepad displayed a line: Lucas Harlow called you. I said you were taking a shower.

Lawrence Winters: ”...”

Her eyes moved, immediately understanding Kenneth Osborne’s meaning.

A feeling simultaneously emerged in her heart, sweet and tender, but upon savoring it deeply, there’s a tinge of sourness, a bit of bitterness, which contrasted against that sweetness at her core, amplifying it to an irresistible degree.

Kenneth Osborne handed her the phone, interrupting her momentary reverie.

Lawrence Winters blinked at Kenneth Osborne, her smile somewhat flirtatious.

Picking up the phone, she softly uttered ’Hello,’ still with her usual clear, melodious voice, but with a hint of huskiness not typically there, enhancing the allure.

Lucas Harlow waited this long just to annoy Kenneth Osborne.

Yet upon actually hearing Lawrence Winters’ voice, his irritation miraculously vanished, saying, ”Lawrence? You finished showering?”

Lawrence Winters nodded, ”Yeah, Lucas, what’s up?”

”Oh, right, I wanted to ask if you’re planning to start filming before or after the New Year.” Lucas Harlow made an effort to focus on the real topic, ”If we start before the New Year, there’s supposedly a very auspicious date good for starting. If we do it after, it’s not impossible, but there won’t be any good days to worship within the first three months.”

Lawrence Winters was quite puzzled, curiously asking, ”... Isn’t starting up for filming? Picking a date? Worshipping too?”

Lucas Harlow: ”... You didn’t know? This is common knowledge for film crews; they’ll find a good date when starting, a time for everyone to offer incense and worship, praying for smooth filming without mishaps.”

”Oh, is that so?” Lawrence Winters’ eyes shifted, ”Who’s finding the date for the crew this time?”

Lucas Harlow: ”...”

He instantly thought of what Lawrence Winters’ family is known for, quickly smiling, ”Nobody’s been hired for that yet; the producer looked at the almanac themselves. If Lawrence has someone great to recommend, I can arrange it.”

Lawrence Winters was thrilled, quickly saying, ”Really? Should you discuss it with the producer? I do have a great recommendation, just afraid the producer already arranged it, could there be a conflict?”

”No worries, the producer has to listen to me; I say who to use.” Lucas Harlow said with a smile, pondering calling the producer immediately to consult Lawrence Winters’ uncle.

Sure enough, Lawrence Winters said with a laugh, ”Got it, producers have to listen to those with the money; the one with money is the boss! Lucas, you don’t have to work so hard!”

”If I don’t work hard, how will you earn commission, right?” Lucas Harlow laughed.

The TV drama they’re about to film has a budget of three hundred million, nearly a third of which is Lucas Harlow’s pay; Lawrence Winters’ commission comes from Lucas Harlow’s salary, a substantial income.

Thinking of the soon-to-be grasped money, Lawrence Winters’ heart blossomed with joy, even her voice when talking to Lucas Harlow became sweeter, less business-like, ”Yes, exactly! I’m just waiting for you, Lucas, to reach the top and I’ll ride your coattails to victory!”

They exchanged a few more collegial compliments before ending the call.

Seeing the funds soon to arrive, much surpassing what she’d saved over the decades working with Nick Zeller in Feng Shui, she was genuinely thrilled, her peachy face glowing with excitement.

Kenneth Osborne watched her, assuming her excitement was from talking with Lucas Harlow, feeling turbulent inside, outwardly indifferent.

But seeing her about to dance with joy, he couldn’t hold back, pulling her into his arms, kissing her deeply.
