Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 406: Chapter 218: Making Wedding Clothes for Others

People in the industry all know that if you can secure this opportunity, not only will you establish a connection with the largest charity organization in the country, but also collaborate with the most famous director in the world. More importantly, the public service short film will be aired for half a year on TV, online media, and before movies!

This level of exposure will make any actor who gets it become famous.

So the competition for this opportunity within the industry is extremely fierce.

Edward Foster had previously asked Lucas Harlow if he was interested.

Lucas Harlow, however, was thinking about the TV drama he still needs to shoot this year. To him, his workload was already excessive, so he had no desire to fight for this opportunity.

Even though he had a good personal relationship with that director, he had no intention of using connections.

Seeing that Lucas Harlow wasn’t interested and there were no other artists in the company suitable image-wise, Edward Foster didn’t pay much attention to it.

Now that Zoe Johnson mentioned Arthur Johnson wanting to compete for it, Edward Foster couldn’t help but look up at Zoe Johnson and say, ”Director Zhao, do you know how much it would cost our company to vie for this opportunity?”

This cost not only includes money but also the investment of favors, resources, and more.

More importantly, when the resources are just obtained for the shoot, Arthur Johnson’s contract would almost be expiring.

This would definitely be making a wedding dress for someone else.

Zoe Johnson awkwardly laughed and said, ”This is my thought: we help him get this opportunity, but he must first renew his contract with us for five years. What do you think?”

Edward Foster chuckled, ”Director Zhao, you’re even more ruthless than me? Sure, go ask him. If he agrees to renew for five more years, I’ll help him fight for this opportunity!”

Zoe Johnson was overjoyed and quickly said, ”Thank you, Mr. Edward!”

”Don’t thank me just yet; I haven’t finished my terms.” Edward Foster snorted, ”If he doesn’t agree, then our partnership ends here. Tell him I am not someone without principles, so if he wants to try to get it himself, I won’t stop him, but the company will provide no support.”

Zoe Johnson laughed heartily, ”Mr. Edward, you’re really meticulous! Alright, I’ll convey the message! Actually, I believe he will definitely agree to renew!”

”...I haven’t terminated Lucas Harrow either, nor have I shelved him. Do you think he will renew?” Edward Foster smirked, ”Make sure to tell me as soon as there’s a result.”

Zoe Johnson quickly called Arthur Johnson to her office and with a smile said, ”Arthur, how long have you been with our company?”

”Ten years.” Arthur Johnson smiled faintly. He didn’t earn the title of the top actor in period dramas for nothing. His features were handsome, his complexion fair, and his eyes sparkling. While his modern outfits weren’t outstanding, his period drama costumes were ethereal, enchanting countless fans of all ages.

Zoe Johnson once was a fan of his looks too, but after so many years, she has grown accustomed to Arthur Johnson’s appearance, and idols shouldn’t be too close-up anyway.

Being too close loses the mystery and space for imagination, which is very unfavorable for idols who rely on their looks.

However, Arthur Johnson is stronger than those idols; at least he genuinely has acting skills.

Zoe Johnson nodded, saying with emotion, ”Ten years, huh? You were just fifteen when you joined the company, right out of middle school. And now you’re only twenty-five, still with plenty of good years ahead.”

A fifteen-year-old middle school graduate, meaning he had just completed the nine years of compulsory education.

Arthur Johnson smiled modestly and said, ”Thank you, Sister Zhao, for your care over the years. I’m grateful for your good words. I’d like to ask about the public service short film, what does the company plan to do about it?”

”Here’s the deal. The company is very supportive and even plans to actively help you get it.” Zoe Johnson said with a smile, constantly observing Arthur Johnson.

Arthur Johnson indeed showed a look of surprise and quickly said, ”Really? The company is really going to help me fight for it?!”

”Yes, of course, as long as you sign your name right here, I, Zoe Johnson, can guarantee to fight it through for you!” Zoe Johnson said as she brought out a contract she’d prepared in advance and placed it in front of Arthur Johnson.

Arthur Johnson was taken aback, ”What’s the meaning of this?”

”Arthur, isn’t it obvious what it means?” Zoe Johnson smiled kindly, ”Look, you have less than three months left on your contract. The cast for that public service short film will be confirmed the day before your contract expires. If our company helps you by investing in and obtaining it, and then you leave just like that, how do we make up for our loss?”

Arthur Johnson’s face felt a bit hot.

He initially wanted to brush over the issue, but that was naive thinking.

Zoe Johnson, Edward Foster—they’re all top-notch smart people, they wouldn’t be fooled by this kind of thing.

He regretted revealing his cards too early, now he’s in a predicament, unable to move forward or backward.

If he doesn’t sign the contract, the company obviously won’t help him fight for that public service short film.

But if he doesn’t have that public service short film, his exposure for the next six months would not be guaranteed. By then, Lucas Harlow’s new drama will be released and start its promotional campaign; who would still remember that the real leading man at NewHuman Corporation was supposed to be him, Arthur Johnson?

Arthur Johnson felt a deep bitterness, but he also knew he absolutely should not sign this contract.

Just looking at the conditions presented, renewing for five more years wouldn’t increase his share by much, nor does it provide him with more favorable conditions. Compared to Summer Spencer’s terms, it’s far inferior.

Arthur Johnson pondered over it several times in his head, then gathered his courage and said, ”Sister Zhao, I’m still undecided about signing it or not.”

”Not decided yet?” Zoe Johnson’s face changed instantly, thinking, Edward Foster, that pampered second-generation, was right after all...

”Yes.” Arthur Johnson nodded, ”How about this: I’ll try to fight for that public service short film by myself, okay? I only hope that the company will consider that I’ve earned them money for ten years, and although they won’t help me, they also won’t...”

Zoe Johnson understood and immediately interrupted him, displeased, saying, ”What are you talking about? Our company is a legitimate company. Though we won’t help you fight for it, we aren’t going to trip you up either.”
