Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 422: Chapter 227: After the Clouds Clear, the Moon Shines Bright

In the early morning, most people hadn’t arrived at the technology park yet.

A dark blue police car flashing its lights roared in, accompanied by an ambulance.

The police rushed to the elevator in a building in the tech park, seeing its doors open with the floor covered in blood.

A stunningly handsome man was leaning against the threshold of the elevator door, his eyes slightly closed, face pale as snow.

Yet, there was a bright red bloodstain beside his cheek, like an unintentional finger mark.

Hearing someone arriving, he suddenly opened his eyes, his dark eyes, snow-white face, and the bright red bloodstain on his cheek rendered him as captivating as a poppy blooming at night, addictive at a glance.

A female officer rushing in met his gaze, blushing instantly.

This man was Kenneth Osborne.

He detachedly shifted his gaze, using a hand to support the elevator door, and stood up slowly, saying, ”...Someone attacked me earlier; I knocked him out.”

As he stepped aside, the officers saw another person lying inside the elevator, wearing a black glossy raincoat-like jacket, with one leg strangely bent.

On the elevator floor lay a knife stained with blood.

The female officer walked over, wearing transparent plastic gloves, picked up the knife from the ground, and placed it in an evidence bag.

Another male officer walked to the person lying on the ground, turned him over, and took a photo of him.

Soon, the police station’s network database responded: This is an escaped convict.

The male officer became alert immediately, waving for a few others to lift the person suspected of being a fugitive and take him to the hospital first.

Kenneth Osborne’s leg injury wasn’t severe, but he had lost too much blood.

The police also sent him to the ambulance.

Another officer went to the building’s management to retrieve the elevator surveillance footage.

The footage showed the man with the knife attempting to attack Kenneth Osborne first; Kenneth narrowly escaped due to quick reflexes and a bit of luck.

The officers breathed a sigh of relief and took a copy of the surveillance with them.

...

Lawrence Winters was taken to work by Nick Zeller today.

On the way, Nick Zeller nagged her to buy a car, saying, ”You can’t always expect me to drive you. It’s time you start driving yourself.”

Lawrence Winters looked at the bustling traffic outside the car window and smiled, ”It’s not far, just a few stops away. I’ll take the bus in the future.”

”That’s a no-go.” Nick Zeller shook his head in disagreement, ”We’re only allowing you to drive by yourself because it’s close. If it were further away, we wouldn’t permit it even if you wanted to.”

Lawrence Winters cheekily leaned over to look at Nick Zeller, ”Uncle, why are you suddenly being so good to me?”

”You’re our only heir; we rely on you for our retirement. How can we not be good to you?” Nick Zeller glared at her, ”Myself, your mom, and your master-grandfather — you have three elders to care for. Remember to treasure your life, got it?”

”Got it, got it...” Lawrence Winters waved her hand, suddenly feeling a heart palpitation, with her hand returning to clutch her chest, she frowned, saying, ”Uncle, I’m feeling unwell, my heart’s beating fast.”

Nick Zeller froze for a moment, slamming the brakes abruptly and pulling the car to the roadside, asking with concern, ”What’s wrong with you? Do you need to go to the hospital?”

Lawrence Winters felt stirred inside, subconsciously nodding, ”Yes.”

Nick Zeller, ”...”

He pursed his lips, ”I was just asking casually, are you really going?”

Lawrence Winters, ”...”

She closed her eyes, shallowly breathing until the unsettling feeling in her chest slowly dissipated, then she sighed with relief.

Holding the phone in her hand, she instinctively dialed Kenneth Osborne’s number.

Kenneth Osborne was already in a hospital ward, a nurse was dressing and bandaging his leg wound.

Upon hearing the phone ring, Kenneth quickly answered, ”Nora, what’s up?”

Lawrence Winters spoke with a slightly playful tone, ”I suddenly felt chest discomfort earlier, couldn’t breathe well, and my heart was racing, almost jumping out of my throat.”

Kenneth Osborne, ”...”

He chuckled deeply, speaking gently, ”Didn’t sleep well last night? Do you need to see a doctor?”

”No,” Lawrence Winters shook her head, ”Kenneth, let me see you, okay? I think if I see you, I’ll feel better.”

”Oh? So you were unwell because you missed me?” Kenneth Osborne teased with a laugh.

The nurse bandaging his wound felt her face heat up almost to the point of explosion.

This stunning god, speaking so gently, was too captivating for anyone!

Lawrence Winters also blushed, exclaiming teasingly, ”Miss you? So what? Can’t I miss you? Show me quickly...”

Kenneth Osborne suddenly felt an overwhelming sense of relief and excitement after enduring hardships. Despite being unfit to video chat with Lawrence Winters, her rare display of dependency made him float a little.

So his fingers naturally tapped on FaceTime, opening the video call.

Lawrence Winters immediately accepted and saw Kenneth Osborne’s handsome face, undiminished by the iPhone’s poor-angle camera.

She also noticed the bloodstain on his cheek that hadn’t been wiped off.

Lawrence Winters’ eyes widened instantly, exclaiming worriedly, ”Kenneth! How’s your face bleeding? Why is your shirt collar torn? Show me your whole body quickly!”

Kenneth Osborne, ”...”

FML.

He forgot to wipe his face.

The blood on his face was smeared, not due to an injury, so he hadn’t paid any attention.

The nurse planned to finish bandaging his leg wound before reminding him to wash his face in the restroom.

Unexpectedly, his girlfriend caught it.

The nurse believed the woman making this man speak so gently must be his girlfriend.

”Kenneth! Show me your whole body now! Wait, where are you? Why doesn’t it look like the office... You’re sitting on a bed?”

Lawrence Winters vaguely saw the shadow of a bed rail, her face swiftly tensing up like a small sour peach.

Kenneth Osborne found himself in an impossibly contradictory dilemma at that moment.

If he showed her his whole body, his leg wound wouldn’t be concealed.

If he didn’t, she might suspect him of an affair...

And seeing Kenneth hesitate, Lawrence unknowingly brewed a vat of jealousy, sourly saying, ”Is there someone else on the bed? Not convenient, huh? You left so early today; turns out you weren’t going to work, just switched beds?”

Hah—!

The nurse bandaging Kenneth’s wound couldn’t hold back and burst into laughter.

Kenneth Osborne shook his head helplessly, having to point the phone at the nurse dressing his wound, ”Nora, you’ve misunderstood. I didn’t...”

Lawrence Winters then noticed the nurse and Kenneth’s bandaged leg.

”...You’re in the hospital?!” Lawrence immediately understood, panicking, ”Which hospital are you at? I’ll come to get you! How did you get injured? Is your leg seriously hurt? Should we ask Director Zhao for help, move to a better hospital? Your leg is crucial...”

Seeing Lawrence’s anxiety resembling ants on a hot griddle, Kenneth Osborne smiled happily, feeling a sense of fulfilling relief after tough times.
