Warhammer Divine Throne

This summer in Brittania is relatively cool, not as sweltering as in previous years. This is good news for the peasants in the Count Glamorgan’s Domain. Moreover, it is quite rare this year that the master knights did not hold large-scale hunting or training activities.

Due to the Northern Chaos Invasion in the spring this year, the master knights of the whole domain have already gotten enough exercise. What they need now is rest. The northern refugees who fled earlier this year have begun to adapt to life in the Count’s domain. With their hard work, the domain’s wealth is increasingly abundant, and peasants’ households have started accumulating enough stored food to last for two or three months.

This is very rare in Brittania.

Five new villages have been opened up in Charon Forest, and new residents have gradually moved in. After repeated eradication, the Beastman Tribes in the forest can no longer stir up trouble. Of course, the Count has ordered prohibitions against residents venturing too deep into the forest, as cleaning up the forest is a long process.

As usual, in the afternoon, Laine found some leisure time. The Count himself seemed quite at ease, sitting behind the desk in his office, busy doing his work seriously.

But in fact, this fellow was idling away. His maids, Ollica and Amelia, were serving in the room. Laine’s standard bearer, Holy Grail Knight Armand, Sir Jerald of Winford, his brother-in-law Marquis Winford Julius, and Count Galament Kaled, who was preparing for his own Holy Grail Expedition, were all in Laine’s office. Everyone was enjoying sliced chilled watermelon and the magical cooling crafted by Teresa, feeling quite comfortable.

”Laine, you really know how to enjoy yourself. I always thought Mr. Francois having a dedicated cooling courtyard in his castle was extravagant enough, but you managed to come up with using magic to cool down,” said Jerald, holding the chilled watermelon with both hands and taking large bites, juices dripping all over his face.

”Castles are fine in winter, but uncomfortable in summer so I need to make some changes,” Laine looked somewhat upset. It took him two days to come out from the Lake Fairy’s tower. Fortunately, having just advanced to the Holy Sanctuary, his body strength far exceeded that of ordinary Legendary Tier powerhouses; otherwise, he really might not have been able to handle Mogiana. The Lake God Witch is privately quite entangled with him and willing to cooperate, the two unlocked many new positions.

Regarding this matter, Laine discussed it privately with Ollica under the covers. After pondering it for some time, he realized he could only discuss it with the dark elf.

Ollica’s explanation was this: ”Master, being with you feels really good, especially when absorbing spiritual energy. Every time, I can’t help it... In this respect, I feel the same as Mogiana, and Mogiana... she’s probably also over fifty years old, and some things once opened, can’t be closed again.”

”Alright.” Laine said no more.

Over time, Laine has started to form his small circle. These people he gathered are all young talents of Brittania, aged in their thirties and forties. He noticed Kaled was very downcast, clearly very affected by the deaths of Jules and Anara.

Kaled was not crushed by the setback; he became stronger, more determined.

”By the way, I hear Duke of Connet, Lorne-Rio Cornwall launched another knightly war to try and reclaim Musillon?” Laine attempted to change the topic: ”How’s it going?”

After defeating the Chaos Invasion, due to the large army gathered by Kulona, Richard straightforwardly ordered Duke Lorne to lead more than ten thousand troops on an expedition to Musillon, intending to reclaim this Cursed City in one swift motion.

According to insider information from Francois in Kulona, Richard already has thoughts of abdicating. He wants to pass his kingly position to Lorne-Rio Cornwall. If Lorne could leverage the achievement of reclaiming Musillon as Richard’s designated heir, his ascent to the throne would almost be a certainty.

Richard’s plan was also clear. The entire Knight Kingdom knew a huge Vampire army was inexplicably wiped out when heading to Laine’s domain, which greatly weakened the Vampires of Musillon, who could no longer take offensive actions, but could only remain isolated in Musillon, struggling to recover their strength.

So, Richard’s plan was, precisely due to Laine’s actions causing severe damage to Musillon’s Vampires, to let his cousin Duke Lorne take the opportunity to ”pick the fruit” and reclaim Musillon.

”Indeed, His Grace the Duke of Lorne did lead an army of over ten thousand into Musillon to campaign,” Kaled nodded. His tone was somewhat melancholic: ”But, as with the results over the centuries, Duke Lorne’s army again returned without success at Musillon. Originally planning a siege of the city, Duke Lorne ultimately chose to retreat.”

”Retreat?” Julius, with his arms crossed, lately had developed a bit more warmth on his cold face, evidently also pleased about his sister’s impending marriage. He always thought Surya should only marry a young, capable Holy Grail Knight.

”Yes, retreat.” Jerald concurred, the cousin of Francois smiled bitterly and said: ”Duke Lorne won every encounter after entering Musillon, smashing every Vampire ambush, but he ultimately couldn’t contend with Musillon’s entire Vampire population. Even though Duke Lorne personally confronted and killed a Black Chalice Knight, even though he led a hundred personal guards to rout five hundred Undead Black Knights, Musillon’s immense Vampire corruption and the resistance from all its residents made logistics and supply of the entire knightly army very difficult.”
