Gene Town in Count Glamorgan’s domain is different from other Brittania cities. It’s more prosperous and orderly than ordinary human cities. Merchants rush back and forth with their horse-drawn carts, and there are many shops on both sides of the street. Bags of grain, spices, sugar, and cloth are piled up from the stores to the street edges. Unlike other Brittania cities, it doesn’t stink to high heaven and is relatively much cleaner. Every day, many Ranger Knights come to this town seeking opportunities, attracted by the fame of Laine Macado, the Divine Chosen Champion of the Lake Fairy.

At the town gate, Laine’s family crest is hung over the town entrance. Locals come and go, surrounded by vast farmlands where wheat and various crops are grown. The number of Free People is increasing, and soldiers frequently patrol on the town walls and streets. They wear chain armor, with swords at their waists, shields, and crossbows slung over their backs, overlaid by ornate surcoats. An air of menace surrounds them, showing they’re battle-hardened. Occasionally, knights accompany soldiers on patrol. With Count Laine leading them, they’ve won one victory after another, returning triumphantly, each person laden with spoils.

Remon was also with a patrol team. After enrolling, he underwent a long training period before successfully joining the Long Halberd Battalion. It was said that he joined because of losses in the Battle of the Leonais Plains, leading to a special recruitment of thirty people, and Remon just caught the last train.

Joining the Long Halberd Battalion and becoming a soldier of the Count offered a generous salary, earning nearly a Gold Crown a month. In his spare time, Remon could work in some shops and workshops for extra income. Life was quite good, with regular meals twice a day and occasional meat every three days, sometimes roasted, sometimes in stew.

The group patrolled the streets, with Remon brandishing a long halberd. The craftsmanship was exquisite, clearly of Dwarven make, but that also meant the halberd was quite heavy. Only after some training could Remon use it adequately. According to the Master Knights, he was far from being a qualified recruit.

”...At that time, those terrifying Barbarians surged towards us like a black river, their faces pocked, clad in heavy armor, and many damn Barbarians had horns or even extra heads... I even saw Ricardo wet his pants in fear, how embarrassing!” During the patrol break, a Long Halberdier bragged about his experiences in the Battle of the Leonais Plains to the raw recruits.

In that battle, he fought bravely and killed a Chaos Chosen Warrior, earning merits and being promoted to sergeant by Laine, along with a reward of five Gold Crowns. It was a true rise from nothing, considering a few months ago he was a runaway peasant struggling to survive. Now, not only was he a sergeant, but he also married a tailor’s daughter, becoming a real winner in peasant life.

The recruits looked at his chain armor and surcoat with envious eyes.

”Was it really that terrifying?” Remon asked fellow recruits, shuddering at the senior’s description. ”Didn’t you run away?”

”Run away? Why run away?” The sergeant boasted boldly. ”Our Count stood nearby, and over a hundred Master Knights stood in our ranks fighting alongside us. We never planned to flee; we held on during the Barbarian onslaught and defended the Count!”

”Oh, please, you were just afraid of being hanged for fleeing,” said another old soldier, a deep scar tracing his face, supposedly left by Barbarians, making him look fierce. ”We only held for a few minutes before the Master Knights came to assist from the flank.”

”I see.”

”Let me tell you, those Barbarians are really tough. One of them could fight five or ten of us. If it weren’t for the Master Knights constantly directing us to hold the formation, we might have been overwhelmed in one go,” another old soldier said. ”Also, the Dwarven friend’s cannons were really powerful. The four-barreled cannon mounted on an iron wagon killed hundreds of Barbarians with one volley!”

Regardless, facing the Barbarian charge and lasting a few minutes without collapsing was already enough for these veterans to boast.

The group continued on patrol, turning a street corner, where at the end stood an ancient-looking Dwarf Tavern.

Outside the Dwarf Tavern, a Dwarf ancestor statue was carved, followed by a big beer mug. The tavern was large, with ”Longbeard Tavern” written in both Kazadni Language and Low Gothic Language.

The Dwarf Tavern was about five or six meters high, occupying a large area and built with stone, making it a landmark within the town and a paradise for Dwarves. Inside, they sold their brewed malt beer and fine malt beer imported from other Dwarf Kingdoms. Along the Xinong River, numerous factories and workshops bustled with heavy activity daily, with orders lined up into the next year.

The patrol looked at a sign at the tavern entrance, which read, ”Sharp Ears and Cats, Dogs, Pigs Not Allowed. Human friends welcome (but not those without pants).”

”It’s Longbeard Tavern! Wow, I’d love to go in and see,” a recruit said enviously. ”What’s a Dwarf tavern like?”

”Actually, not much different, just more elegantly decorated with larger, prettier tables and chairs and lots of different kinds of beer,” the newly promoted sergeant said smugly. ”Last time I went, I only stayed for a while, had two cups of Bagman Beer, and it cost me fifty Silver Coins!”

”Bagman Beer!” Several veterans were swallowing with anticipation. This premium dark beer from the Bagman Family Brewers in the Black Mountain Range is renowned throughout the Old World. A sip of Bagman Beer can equate to several loaves of black bread and grants immunity to fear for ten hours. Rich and refreshing, it’s a luxury drink craved by these peasants.

After returning from the battlefield, Laine was delighted that his Long Halberd Battalion managed to hold out against the Chaos Warriors’ fierce assault for a few minutes without collapsing. As a reward, he gave each surviving Long Halberdier a cup of Bagman Beer. The veterans have been reminiscing about the taste of Bagman Beer ever since. Unfortunately, this beer is expensive—a barrel costs several Gold Crowns, and even a single cup sells for twenty to thirty Silver Coins, with prices fluctuating. It’s obviously unaffordable for the peasants.

Two dwarves stood at the tavern’s entrance, likely just off work from the workshop, engrossed in chatter. They seemed intent on enjoying a drink after their shift.

The dwarves were bragging, ”When those barbarian mongrels advanced, Count Laine’s Long Halberd recruits were scared witless and wet their pants. It was the strong dwarves who bore the brunt of the attack. We gave those barbarians a taste of our cannons and bullets, even blew off the mammoth’s head with one shot. Without us, Count Laine might not have won.”

”Indeed, dwarves are the best!”

The dwarves, chit-chatting, pushed open the tavern door and were momentarily dumbfounded.

Inside the tavern were neat wooden tables and chairs, and a large bar counter stocked with various barrels of beer. Around ten dwarves were enjoying malt and dark beer while criticizing the poor quality of Brittania Ale. Many candles and dwarf-made lamps illuminated the tavern. These lamps are commercially available, offering excellent lighting, low smoke, and bright flames, popular in the homes of the knightly nobility.

What startled the dwarves was, in the corner, Count Laine and his elder brother Angron sat, drinking Bagman Beer. Opposite them were the Dwarf Rune Artisan Delong Feinson and Dwarf Engineer Dugen the Ironman, focused on the blueprints laid out before them amidst their beer and roast meat.

Laine’s little maid Amelia also sat beside him, feeling out of place in such surroundings. She cautiously clung to Laine’s arm, sitting next to him, leaning against him, curiously observing the interior of the dwarf tavern.

”Lord Laine, Mr. Angron, Miss Amelia, would you like more beer? Let me top it off for you!” The dwarven bartender shook his belly, reaching for Laine’s cup.

”Thank you,” Laine and Angron nodded. The bartender stroked his white beard, ”No, Lord Laine, we all thank you. Here, we have found a new home, thanks to your help.”

With that, the bartender poured two cups of Bagman Beer, placing them before Laine, along with a plate of roast lamb: ”For you, Lord Laine. May your beard grow long and beautiful! Haha~ May mine grow long and smooth too.”

”Thank you!” Laine accepted the beer: ”Brother! Cheers!”

”Cheers~” Angron was exuberant, swallowing a dwarf-made meat pie in one go, savoring a cup of dark beer, then, full of anticipation, turned to Rune Artisan Delong: ”So, Mr. Delong, can you do this?”

Rune Artisan Delong Feinson was still staring at the blueprints, deeply shocked: ”I really don’t know what to say... the axe you want to craft is quite something. I’m unsure if I can make it, Mr. Angron.”

”We have plenty of materials, Mr. Delong. I really need a handy weapon, and so does Laine!” Angron’s tone was laden with expectation.

”I understand, I understand. Actually, I have crafted Vibranium weapons before.” Delong continued looking at the blueprints—they were two sets. One was Angron’s design for a weapon, a dual War Axe—Meat Cutter. The other was a ready-made blueprint Laine obtained from the Emperor, a long-handled Warhammer—Mjolnir. The long-bearded dwarf added, ”But what you want me to make isn’t just a Vibranium weapon; you also seek energy absorption enchantments and energy cutting enchantments, which are difficult to achieve.”

”Can you do it?” Angron still asked eagerly.

”If it’s merely a Vibranium weapon, I can certainly make it. However, for your blueprint, I cannot guarantee achieving your desired outcome. Yet I know someone who can.” Delong concluded with a shake of the head under Angron’s disappointed gaze: ”Because according to your desired effect, crafting it would certainly rival the Divine Artifact Warhammer ’Gail-Malaz’ held by the human Emperor.”

”Who is this person?”
