Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 793: Chapter 591: The Vanguard Troop of the Undead Tribe Rushes Towards the Desert (Additional Chapter for the Alliance Hierarch of Eastern Book 9527)_2

Hill could only smile without a word. The 74-year-old Thunder truly brought an endless surge of vitality. The Nine-Headed Dragon God, Eo, had been very thoughtful; little dragons would need a large amount of food after they were born.

Otherwise, so many little dragons could easily devour the entirety of Toril.

And the various animal companions brought by the Undead Tribe, while other creatures also became restless, few animals could breed like the Wild Boar Legion – nor were they quite as numerous.

Just a few days ago, the Black Rose leading a large litter of piglets became almost the biggest spectacle in Agleya City. The locals couldn’t help but go see those super-sized pigs that were fat, strong, and prolific breeders.

Even Cunlü, who once proudly proclaimed she had enough wealth to support all the descendants of the Duchess, couldn’t help but worry.

It’s not that they didn’t have money, but they needed somewhere to buy the food!

Fortunately, the Duchess was very wise, and indeed very powerful; she could sense that in the wilderness to the East, there was enough food to sustain her offspring.

Departing from Agleya City and crossing the wilderness of the East, they could reach the Supreme Forest directly. It was also deep into autumn, providing endless food for the boars to eat and drink to their fill along the way. The Boar Knights of the Black Rose could also collect extra berries, nuts, and various tubers – they had at least a large bag to store food.

Once the piglets grew to the point where they could forage for themselves, it would be better. Not everyone in the Black Rose had a boar companion like those Priests and Swordsmen raising Flat-headed Brother.

The offspring of the Duke and Duchess were super pigs, coveted by countless people, their size almost matching that of a heavy truck, while their Talented Spells also outnumbered those of other pigs.

Speaking of which, Hill sometimes also admired the Duchess’s genetics. Her lineage had gone on for who knows how many generations, but... regardless of how other Talents changed, the stench of the rotten mud pond was everlasting.

In the world of the Undead, the Black Rose was now nearly untouchable, the cost of waging gang fights against them was simply too high. Many family members, no matter how nicely they spoke beforehand, would inevitably go offline and become temporarily unreachable during a fight.

Most people aren’t afraid of dying, but they do fear stench.

So these piglets weren’t worried about being unwanted, but until they grew up enough to be independent, they couldn’t establish any Animal Companion relationships with anyone else and had to rely on their human parents for care.

People from the Black Rose didn’t trust others to help raise them, so they had to tough it out themselves.

Therefore, most of the bread and pastries made by Lynn were actually bought up by the Black Rose folks, while others still preferred to buy meat.

The first time Lynn saw the boars gobble down the Elven Bread, his face was truly a pitiful sight, stirring immediate sympathy in anyone who saw it.

He didn’t mind the boars eating the same food as himself. The best aspect of elves was that if they looked down upon someone, it would only be because of their vulgarity or habits, not because of their race.

In their eyes, animals were no different from humans.

And many humans hated elves not because of any arrogance displayed by the elves, but because the elves treated them on equal terms with animals.

Hill, for his part, never thought there was anything wrong with the elves’ approach.

What really pained Lynn was why he didn’t make the simplest of foods; it was such a waste of manpower and resources, as Elven Bread was quite a hassle to make.

It was the only slightly leavened bread that Hill had seen in the Ferun Great Land, presumably made with some kind of fruit juice. Although Elven Bread was much more expensive, the fruit and the efforts of many elven workers seemed wasteful in Lynn’s eyes.

He intended to deplete stockpiled food, not to actually make a large profit from the Undead Tribe. Lynn was never interested in one-time fortunes.

After all, since it was meant for feeding pigs, who couldn’t distinguish between Elven Bread and plain white bread, it would have been much better to have housewives make white bread – easier to bake without requiring constant oversight.

Hill actually thought of it.

Given the choice between bread and dried meat, the Undead Tribe would always opt for the dried meat.

It’s not a matter of taste; unless it’s a feast, for the Undead Tribe, the value of food lies only in restoring strength when there is work to be done.

They only look at the level of the food; unless it’s too disgusting to chew, most people don’t care what they’re eating.

For the Undead Tribe, only the most delicious and the most disgusting foods are worth paying attention to.

Bread like this will ultimately end up as feed for animal companions.

But by that time, Lynn had already started working fervently with his people, and who could tell them... to stop.

After all, it could also increase the income of the residents in the city, so Hill decided to pretend he knew nothing.

What he didn’t quite understand was whether the Undead intended to cross through the Supreme Forest or circumvent it along the periphery.

If they went around the periphery, they would have to cross the Riven Ruven, not to mention that it required taking a boat and adding half a month’s journey. They would also encounter many demons and devils, and then they would have to pass through the Naish Mountains, which were sure to be blocked by half-orcs and the Blue Dragons living there.

Half-orcs don’t care if the elves passing through are Undead or not; they don’t have the intelligence for that. In their eyes, this is meat enough to fill their bellies.

They were created for the purpose of fighting elves.

Although the Undead would certainly not be afraid, there would be too much trouble along the way, and when they reached the edge of the desert, they would have to abandon their ships and continue on foot.

However, if they went directly through the Supreme Forest, their large numbers would certainly alarm the army of devils at Hell’s Gate, and before that, they would have to pass through the Lost Peak, which was occupied by demons.

Hill suddenly understood why the Black Rose had been granted the vanguard qualification; at Hell’s Gate, the coalition of believers of All Gods was garrisoned there, with the Righteous Knights as the main force.

And the Black Rose, being a family that had once saved the Silver Shield Knights, naturally had the favor of the Righteous Knights from the start.

They all carried the mark of Tyr’s Divine Power on them.

It seems that despite the numerous internal conflicts of the Undead, they still can sit down and talk things through when it comes to serious matters.

In the end, it all comes down to strength.

Both the Wenjian Clan, with the Lord of Dawn’s mark, and the Black Rose Family, with the God of Justice’s mark, have great advantages, whether in fighting demons and devils or facing the arcanists from Shade Soul City they might encounter after traversing Hell’s Gate into the desert.

Especially the Lord of Dawn, he didn’t know why, but decades ago, before the emergence of Shade Soul City, he built the Tower of the Dawn on the Stone Standing Plains across from the Shadow Sea, near the main road of the Black Route close to the desert.

Although it seems not so close, that tower with a small Dawn Stone is really troublesome for the Shadow Souls, and this is also the reason why the Black Route across the desert has been able to maintain normal operation.

Shade Soul City can only control the Black Route from the mountain range to the east. The path before that can only be traversed by ordinary Shadow Souls if a Great Archmage from Shade Soul City stations there. Otherwise, they simply cannot pass through the area illuminated by the bright light of the Tower of the Dawn.

This can also be considered one of Lansendel’s achievements; no wonder, despite his many misdeeds, he still has countless believers on the Ferun Great Land. His haphazard actions have saved many lives.

The princes of Shade Soul City don’t have the face to claim that Lansendel is hostile to them, after all, who came first is clear to everyone.

Though politicians can be shameless, when faced with powerful Divine Power, they still have to adhere to some principles.

At this thought, Hill gave up worrying about the useless matters of the Undead Tribe; these decisions should be made by Coron, the Elf creator of the Undead, and among his many Divinity roles, he also has that of war. He isn’t lacking in strategy, although he tends to make some strange choices, it doesn’t affect the overall situation.

Having a fit... that’s another matter, and the Undead can afford it.
