Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 763: Chapter 562: Treasures that Hill Can Hardly Bear

Hill certainly wanted to taste what made Silverfish worth such effort for the Unicorn Whale family.

It should be noted that they had to swim half an hour every day to eat in the currents far from the Ice Mountain and then return to take turns ramming the mountain, but no whale ever considered quitting this task.

Hill controlled his own strength, and like his whale friends, took turns ramming the Ice Mountain at regular intervals. He tried to match his friends’ strength, and he already earned the clan leader’s praise.

Initially, they thought Hill was just there to freeload, but it turned out he could work as well, and Hill could feel the clan leader’s particular relief.

After drilling non-stop for three days, a large crack opened at the bottom of the Ice Mountain, and countless Silverfish rushed out frantically.

Hill quickly caught over a hundred and then stopped; he didn’t need to say much about the pendent, the Water Element ecological cycle was complete, perfected by Agleya when she was bored.

If these Silverfish could survive normally in the sea, they would definitely live in the pendant.

What amazed him even more was that accompanying the Silverfish, flowing out of the Ice Mountain was fresh water.

Hill glanced at some of the older Silverfish desperately trying to escape. Could these fish possibly thrive in both freshwater and saltwater?

Or like salmon, do they migrate into the Ice Mountain to spawn and hatch, then wait for the whales to break open the mountain to return to the sea?

Trading their delicious flesh for the continuity of their lives?

Hill’s curiosity got the better of him; he had to have a look inside the Ice Mountain.

The seemingly endless stream of Silverfish continued outwards, but only a few particularly agile ones from the first batch escaped, the cunning old ones were in the middle, taking the opportunity to flee while most of the whales were closing their mouths to taste the first bite.

Hill estimated, in fact, that several hundred thousand big Silverfish had escaped, and still, they surged out from the Ice Mountain.

However, Hill guessed that the last batch would probably be annihilated. Even if they escaped the thousands of encircling whales, some other giant fish had already started to appear outside to pick off the stragglers.

This could be considered a food chain of the Northern Ice Field.

Hill greeted his whale friend and took the opportunity when the falling Silverfish slowed down to dash into the icy river inside the Ice Mountain.

Although Hill’s body didn’t feel temperature changes, his familiarity with ice and snow allowed him to make the most accurate judgments.

This was a river at minus ten degrees that had yet to freeze.

This was abnormal.

Hill slowly swam, sensing the concentration of magic in the water, and finally in the increasingly wide river, he found that subtle trace.

The decreasing concentration of magic hurried Hill; he swiftly kicked his legs, shooting toward the diagonal upper direction like an arrow.

Surprised, as he looked at the top of the Ice Mountain, where small clusters of pale yellow, translucent shrubs were, Hill quickly picked the slowly wilting transparent berries.

Seeing he was almost out of time, Hill unthinkingly summoned the Wood Elemental Spirits.

Little orbs of light quickly appeared beside Hill and then started helping him pick the berries.

Once they had almost finished harvesting the berries together, and Hill was preparing to send each Wood Elemental Spirit back to the Elemental Realm, he was startled to find that a few light orbs looked a bit different. They were holding berries and waiting to receive Elemental Crystals from Hill’s hand.

He didn’t know how to tell these few Pixies, clutching the berries and waiting to receive Elemental Crystals from him, that although they all had wings and looked pretty good, they didn’t seem like the same creature at all.

But Hill still took the small handful of berries from their little hands, handing them Wood Elemental Crystals instead of the Attributeless Crystals like the other Wood Elemental Spirits.

The Wood Elemental Spirits had already noticed these alien creatures. Although they had visited the Prime Material Plane before, Teraxil had not yet seen these little fairies in fairy dresses; in fact, they seemed to prefer calling themselves Little Flower Fairies, typically found in forests.

At first, Hill thought they were ice fairies, but after careful observation, he confirmed that the several in snowy fairy dresses were indeed Little Flower Fairies.

He started looking around the transparent shrubs, hoping to identify this plant. Realizing a plant that could sustain several Little Flower Fairies was rare even in the elves’ Supreme Forest, Hill wanted to know more about it.

But no matter how he looked, it all seemed to be Cloud Berries from the Supreme Wastes!

The shrubs bore fruit on long, whip-like, filamentous vines, creating a dense, interwoven thicket of bushes, making it difficult for someone as large as Hill to harvest, which is why he asked for help from the Wood Elemental Spirits.

However, unlike normal wild berries, these fruits appeared as a transparent hue with a faint yellow tint.

Hill observed again, and a Little Flower Fairy, larger than her companions, flew over, pointing with her delicate wand at an unremarkable orb in the middle of the bushes, ”That is the source of mana for this plant, and the reason we can survive here. You can take it, but in exchange, you must take us out.

The Supreme Wastes are no longer at war, right? We initially failed to escape back to Joyous Court, and finally had to beseech him for help, thus ending up together crossing space to this Ice Mountain.”

Although safe, solitude had spanned over a thousand years.

Even gods couldn’t discover this place, and we couldn’t summon Titania to take us away even if we wanted to.

Now, we no longer think about returning to Shady Home, but we do want to see the outside world.”

”I can take you with me and you don’t need to stay in my domain. If you decide you want to return to Shady Home, you can leave anytime.

My domain isn’t worried about the Fairy Queen Titania’s eyes, nor do I mind if your friends come to play.” Hill gently caressed the leaves of the Cloud Berry and patiently communicated with them. After a long time, the bushes opened a path for Hill.

The fairies of Joyous Court are all little fairies, and Pixies and Gnomes are already the very large ones, generally it is Little Flower Fairies and Brown Sprites who are palm-sized little creatures.

Their pranks are nothing compared to the larger fey demons, just like a child tossing a water ball on your head. Hill did not find these little fairies troublesome at all.

”Why would they listen to you?” A Little Fairy asked resentfully, ”We can go in, but that thing controlling the Cloud Berries is stronger than us. It doesn’t let us manipulate the Cloud Berries. Otherwise, the Silverfish wouldn’t come in such numbers each year to fight over the fruits.”

”The fruits have abundant life force, which can help the Silverfish reproduce.” Hill said with a reassuring smile. ”Though they come in large numbers, their taste is delicious and is favored by many large fish.

For you, it’s just food for a year, for them, it is hope that their species won’t perish.

So don’t be angry, okay?”

Meanwhile, it also brings more death to themselves.

Hill had realized why whales chose this place for mating gatherings; such tender life force could also make the whales’ pregnancy significantly easier.

Whale breeding is actually quite difficult, no wonder so many gather here.

But without the aid of the Unicorn Whales, these Silverfish would die off if confined only to freshwater, although they reproduce there, they need to live in seawater in the end.

Not to mention, the fruits eventually wither and cannot provide food throughout the year for them.

Probably in the inherited memory of the Silverfish, even though many offspring would die, it was still much better than the past when they could only weep and wait for their extinction.

Having eaten so many fruits filled with magic power, many Silverfish who have lived an extra year have evolved and still come to reproduce with their species.

But as long as they escape the mouths of whales, unless they are naturally weak offspring, they won’t die in the mouths of other large fish.

The Little Flower Fairy seemed to visualize the life of the Silverfish and shivered, ”You really are a good person. I knew it; even if we are different from them, a Child of Nature would not easily harm us.

I’ll never complain about those fish stealing food again; it was just about brewing, but life is more important.

Hello, sir, my name is Vila, actually, my name is very long, but I still remember my old friends from the Supreme Wastes asked me not to report my full name.”

Hill couldn’t help but smile, ”Hello, little one. My name is Hill.”

This Little Flower Fairy was still following the traditions of the past in interacting with Hill, but now in Toril, such natural sprites are seldom seen.

After the destruction of the Supreme Wastes, when humans took the place of the elves, their destruction of the forests had driven these little fairies to hide in the hearts of the remaining big forests, or even return to Shady Home.

The little fairies do not deal with Dwarves, and humans make them uncomfortable, so now it’s only the Gnomes and Elves who occasionally see them.

Hill looked at the vine-covered center where a jewel-encrusted cup sat, revealing a wry smile.

Coming out this time, the gain was a bit too much, he might not be able to take it back.

It was a marble cup, about the size of two fists. Three golden bands were wrapped around the rim of the cup, the sides embedded with yellow jade, hyacinth stone, and fire opal. Each side of the middle band had a seal that could be torn off.

Hill suspected that interfering with Lansendel’s affairs was a retribution; otherwise, how could the Divine Artifact, Amanata’s Holy Grail of the long-slumbering Sun God suddenly appear before him?

This High-grade Artifact indeed had its own consciousness, still dormant, and once it awakened, it would likely begin the effort to resurrect Amanata.

Hill suddenly realized why Lansendel’s impersonation plan ended up being a joke, the cup might have ended up in his hands after all?

But increasing life force was just the lowest function of this cup, as long as it was filled with pure water, it could transport along with the Human Plane.

No wonder it could bring the Little Flower Fairy and their home across space to the interior of Ice Mountain.

Hill sat directly on the ice, lost in thought.
