Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 764: Chapter 563: What to Do with a Cup That’s Easy to Take but Not Easy to Use

There was no problem with taking away the cup, as Hill had countless ways to maintain the life-based magical power it radiated.

After all, Amanata tended more toward attack than survival.

However, Hill was well aware that the cup was easy to take, but difficult to use.

He had no interest in exerting any effort for the resurrection of the Sun God.

Yet Hill also understood that even if he did not act, the cup, once awakened, might directly transport itself into the hands of some fortunate individual who just happened to be singing praises to the Sun.

And incidentally bestow upon him several Flower Fairies.

That would make Hill extremely uncomfortable, especially seeing Vila’s innocent and endearing demeanor, Hill was truly glad he had arrived first.

Otherwise, Vila and the others’ eventual fate would very likely be to have their minds erased and become tireless gardeners in a garden.

These little Fairies, who had lost touch with the outside world for a thousand years, simply could not understand how harsh the outside environment was for them.

Upon seeing them, the first reaction of human Mages would be that there’s now someone to tend to the plantations within the Magic Tower.

Hill had been silent for too long, and Vila, along with a few Little Flower Fairies, watched him for a while before going off to play with the Wood Elemental Spirits.

They had been lonely for thousands of years, tired of communicating only with each other.

Having finally seen so many foreign friends, who were also about their size, they had no desire to consider anything else; they wanted to play first and think later.

After all, their large friend of nature had agreed to take them out; the Little Flower Fairies could not care less about what Hill was contemplating.

What does deep thought have to do with little Fairies?

Hill stood up, took out the cup, and then began pouring Holy Water into it.

From four cups of Holy Water, he could create one cup of golden Liquid Sun, something Hill would not give up.

Then he began to use the Water Series Element Crystals and powder to inscribe a Life Magic Formation near the roots of the Cloud Berry.

Since the shrubs had maintained the same size over a thousand years, Hill could confirm just how great the life force brought by the Cup of Amannata was.

This was a mature ecosystem, and Hill would never, out of a momentary kindness, allow the life force emitted by the Magic Formation to increase, as that would only cause destruction.

Most organisms have an instinct to reproduce, and these Cloud Berries consume a great deal of energy to produce a lot of fruit because they do not have enough life force to grow new shrubs.

If Hill gave them too much, they would simply start trying to minimize blooming and fruiting, sending out new vines to expand the population.

After Hill inscribed the formation, he covered it with a layer of solid ice, completely concealing the Water Element Crystals with semi-transparent ice; even if someone discovered this Ice Mountain, they could only sense very weak life force.

Without significant benefits, no one would be willing to bear the sin of destroying a race, unless they were unlucky enough to encounter a Demon invasion.

Even the Unicorns knew what sustainable development was, and had never tried to tear down the Ice Mountain completely to see what gave the Silverfish that kind of ability.

They knew that something from freshwater, no matter how good, was not easily obtainable by them; on the other hand, as long as Silverfish did not become extinct, they could always be caught and eaten.

In the world of Toril, those who could become powerful Professionals all understood very well that as incarnations of the world’s source, the Tablets of Fate would not document evil, but they would certainly record the evil consequences related to the source.

The cause and effect of genocidal actions are enough to turn any strong being into a mere backdrop in heroic epics, the mire trampled under the feet of heroes.

So even in their decisive killings, they would try as much as possible to avoid affecting the rise and fall of a race.

Actually, even Demons with a hint of intelligence would not want to attract the attention of the Tablets of Fate, for being recorded by them as unlucky would surely bring misfortune, like unexpectedly encountering a great slayer of demons and devils on the road.

Hill glanced at the Golden Cup placed beside him, where the Holy Water was churning and burning fiercely.

Liquid Sun, a substance that could be created once a month, but once made, could only be stored in the Golden Cup; it couldn’t be created a second time unless used, for naturally, this was a Ninth-Level Magic, not just anything could hold it.

Smiling, Hill reached into his own storehouse and pulled out several golden Divine Crystal Fragments.

These were received in the world of Gerns, fragments of a Divine Crystal from the unfortunate previous Sun God who died miserably at the hands of Devils.

The larger pieces had been used by Teraxil in his act of heaven-mending, but Hill had still recovered some smaller pieces from the Undead Tribe and after Purifying them beside the oil painting Divine Artifact, had put them into his storehouse.

He hadn’t expected to use them at this time, but indeed, it was always best to be prepared for anything.

Though small, these Divine Crystal Fragments were not so easily transformed; Hill had the blessing of the Sun God and possessed Divinity, and after owning them for a long time, he could slowly melt the fragments little by little.

Hill was not worried, after all, he was not going to create just one Liquid Sun, so he could take his time.

It took Hill a month to turn these fragments into three spherical pendants, using the core of the Flame Sunflower as the holder.

As he had thought, the Divine Crystal was a natural spatial object, but because the fragment was not large, the spherical pendant could only hold about a liter of water at most.

But that was enough for the bit of Liquid Sun inside the Holy Grail of Amanata.

Hill handled the first cup of Liquid Sun extremely gently, pouring it into the small sphere, then quickly sealing it and weaving an openwork sphere with Mithril Wire around the pendant before hanging it inside a Mithril Chest.

The little Flower Fairy, Vila, had dragged her companions and the recently cheerful Wood Elemental Spirit to hide in a corner of the Ice Mountain space, taking refuge behind a hanging icicle, as soon as Hill began his work.

Hill couldn’t help but ask her, ”It seems you know what this is?”

Only after watching Hill successfully transfer the Liquid Sun did Vila somewhat dazedly fly down, ”I do know! It’s the Divine Artifact of the Old Sun, every time it’s used there’s a world-shaking explosion.

And it’s very flashy, too; many of the Little Fairies couldn’t resist the curiosity to look and were blinded by the brightness, having to return to the Shady Home to recover for a long while.

In the past, many people on the Supreme Wastes worshiped it fanatically, but, unfortunately, we don’t know what happened; we just know that the world almost got destroyed, and the followers of the Old Sun abandoned him.

That cup was originally held by a very beautiful Human Priestess, who, in tears, threw the cup into the bushes one day.

We even thought the Humans were going to wage war against the Little Fairies!

Afterwards, the Sun suddenly dimmed, and our Queen said it was because a foolish follower had fallen, also telling us that we must take responsibility for our wrongdoings, as she would never bear them on our behalf.

Little Flower Fairies aren’t Pixies, how could we be playing pranks!

We ignored them all.

This cup, though immobile, has been calling for the Old Sun’s followers all the time, usually ignoring us.

But even after running here with us, it couldn’t find them.

Then, it just kept sleeping, never able to speak again.”

Vila looked at Hill with admiration, ”You’re so amazing~ That lady held it for such a long time and couldn’t safely remove the Golden Light from the cup!”

Did the Little Fairies actually see Liquid Sun as something like a liquid gold in their eyes? Hill smiled, they might be naïve, but they seemed to always see the essence.

But faith, that double-edged sword, Hill couldn’t understand why the deities of Toril still held onto it so strongly.

Maybe it’s because they have too many enemies; they need to hold onto every bit of power they can? If only Amanata had stuck to the Sun as his profession like Suren did, instead of putting the laws worshiped by Humans first, he wouldn’t have ended up sleeping for thousands of years without waking.

Hill told Vila with a smile, ”Can you wait for me for another two months, please? I need to collect two more portions.”

The Little Flower Fairy nodded earnestly, ”Certainly. But just two months? The base of the Ice Mountain is already sealed again! I thought we would have to wait until next year when the Silverfish come in.”

”How do they get in?” asked Hill, while pouring Holy Water into the cup.

”Every spring, another floating Ice Mountain passes by here, colliding hard with ours each time.” Vila hung her little Magic Wand on her shoulder, pressing her tiny fists together, with a fiercely determined expression on her adorable face, ”It’s a very, very strong collision~

Then a crack appears in that corner, and the Silverfish jump in through it.

It seems that every year, many can’t make the jump and get eaten by the big fish outside~”

Hill hadn’t really thought of that; he glanced in the direction Vila pointed and flew over for a closer look. Indeed, it was the weakest part of the Ice Mountain cave. If the Unicorn Whale could hit it, it would probably break through in three days.

But it happened to be more than three meters above the sea level and at an angle, making it impossible for the Unicorn Whales to break through, even if they knew about it.

Therefore, they could only collide with the sturdiest part at the bottom of the Ice Mountain every year, releasing the Silverfish and meanwhile setting a feast.

Hill found this ecological cycle, formed by nature’s occasional surprises, very interesting. He was a bit regretful; it would have been nice if he could have brought Agleya here with him.

But it wasn’t a lost opportunity, thought Hill with a smile. Agleya would certainly come again when she grew even stronger.

Vila brought Hill two little water sacks along with the other Little Flower Fairies, presumably woven from the silken petals and leaves of the Cloud Berry, a natural skill of the Flower Fairies.

Inside the water sacks was a honey wine brewed from dew and Cloud Berry nectar.

Hill accepted them with solemn gratitude; this was the process of the Little Flower Fairies officially establishing relations with an adult.

Honey was the source of their life force; when a Little Flower Fairy offered honey wine and mead that they had brewed to an adult, it meant they were entrusting their lives to that adult’s protection.

Although this small tribe didn’t have much food, they had offered their sincerity.

Vila spun around joyfully, ”Ah, we can pack up now~” A few Little Flower Fairies followed her quickly, shouting and spinning along with her.

It turns out they thought they would have to wait until next spring to leave, which is why they hadn’t been in much of a hurry!
