Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 760: Chapter 559 Law Enforcement Authority in Deepwater City

The Mage, gradually stiffening under the countless elven fingers pointing at him from below, soon perked up as if he had received some instruction.

It seems that Kelben, hidden behind, couldn’t hold back any longer.

”Esteemed and elegant kin...”

”Who’s he talking about?”

”Idiot, elves are nicknamed what? ’Elegant kin’!”

The live broadcast carried comments that made it hard not to chuckle.

But the key point was that it wasn’t just a few people discussing this, the floating Mage had barely started speaking when he was interrupted by a massive wave of noise from below, and he looked around, clueless.

No one offered clarification.

In the end, he might have felt that the elves were not satisfied with him hovering aloft, but since he didn’t know how to engage in direct dialogue with all of them, he simply landed on the roof of a two-story building nearby.

The flustered actions turned away the heads of a few Mages who were watching from the side.

The Undead Tribe fell into a weird silence together, probably waiting for this clown-like Mage to finish his speech.

’Chattering’ asked Hill with some curiosity, ”That Black Staff Kelben from Deepwater City, those Seraphs briefed us on his grudge with the elves before we came.

Although he looks like an ambitious blowhard, he’s definitely not a fool.

Why would he send out such an embarrassing clown?”

Hill looked at the Scroll Scholar with approval: ”A clown can sometimes be quite useful, transforming a situation on the brink of eruption into one negotiable.

You have too many people; a real fight would be an absolute loss unless Kelben uses the Magic Tower, but the Magic Tower can only be a deterrent.

If he truly dared to use the Magic Tower to harm you who are in the right, Coron would definitely intervene and hit the tower with a Disintegration Spell.

Have you seen the Longbow on the back of that Seraph Leader?”

Watching the two of them nod, Hill said with a smile, ”That is the Divine Artifact, Amrashana. Within a mile, it never misses, and every arrow in his infinite quiver can deal enough damage to pierce through Legendary armor.

And this Seraph Leader is the most reckless one in the entire Elf Deity System; he never considers the consequences when he takes action.

Many people don’t know he’s here; otherwise, Agleya City would not be this quiet.

But Mystra definitely knows he’s around.

Give Kelben several doses of courage, and he still wouldn’t dare show his face.

Other forces in Deepwater City aren’t going to help him, you know, aside from the issues of interest, the largest real estate businessman in Deepwater City is a Metal Dragon.

The relationship between the Giant Dragon and Kelben isn’t good.

She and her allies haven’t actively troubled Kelben because she owes a favor to Elaströ, another Chosen of Mystra, but they definitely won’t step in to help him out of his predicament.

See, it has already become a situation where negotiation is possible, hasn’t it?”

”Why doesn’t someone just hit him with a fireball?” ’Magic Sword’ asked ’Chattering’, somewhat puzzled, ”This guy is so annoying; I don’t think those guys can be that patient.”

”Old Dog said before he left that it wouldn’t really come to blows, but we must force them to bow their heads,” ’Chattering’ explained to Hill, ”Otherwise, even if we are doing things in Deepwater City under the banner of justice, there will definitely be many troubles.

The Undead aren’t afraid of trouble, but at least when they take action, it should be with legitimate authority.

He had already instructed all the others before we set out that if they don’t want to be left with no mission to do, they should keep their hands off their weapons.

Luckily, everyone’s quite honest.”

”Honest? Old Dog just threatened them again, didn’t he?” ’Magic Sword’ bluntly poked through the facade everyone knew, ”If it wasn’t for the threat of killing them on sight, how could these guys be so compliant?”

”Can you shut it?” ’Chattering’ finally couldn’t stand it, ”Don’t mention how many Scattered Ones are there—what about all those people from PVE guilds!

Old Dog hasn’t gone mad; how could he do such a stupid thing!

Even those idiots who liked to monopolize situations in the Doomsday wouldn’t say that!

This is a Faction mission; Old Dog took the mission and has the authority! Do you understand? He can see the list of troublemakers and then expel them from this area mission!

Even committing mischief requires a bit of gold on the cheek!

Old Dog definitely won’t throw away his reputation built over many years for such a trivial matter.”

”Oh~” ’Magic Sword’ said as if struck by a revelation, ”So it’s the great justice of the Faction being used to control people. That’s indeed Old Dog’s specialty, kicking people out with good reason; no wonder everyone’s so compliant.”

’Chattering’, looking grim, sneaked a glance at Hill who was still smiling, and said through clenched teeth, ”Why is it you who ended up staying here?”

’Magic Sword’ spoke defiantly, ”I want to be over there too! Look how lively it is.”

Hill looked towards the screen, barely holding back a laugh: Actually, ’Chattering’ himself has said quite a bit, and The Wise Ones have also understood.

He hadn’t planned on deceiving Hill, an understanding between them was enough; they still needed to save Snow Old Dog some face!

Who knew that someone next to him was a nitwit, who just had to blurt out the harsh truth in the most unpleasant manner.

The mage on the screen had already arrogantly made his point clear: they would discipline these City Guards, but as the lords of Deepwater City, they would never relinquish control over their own troops to anyone else.

Therefore, only their internal trial would unfold, and they would post a notice to inform the elves of the results in the end.

They hoped the elves would cease causing trouble, and as compensation, they would waive the pursuit of accountability for the elves who shattered the gates of Deepwater City.

No sooner had he finished speaking than the Undead Tribe member on camera began fiddling with his pouch.

The female elf mage, hugging her own shoulders and wearing a disdainful expression, declared, ”If that’s the case, then I have no choice but to proclaim them lifelong enemies, and in accordance with elven tradition, vow to seek revenge unto death!”

Hill felt ’her’ fingers trembling, suspecting he was fighting the urge to pull out his magic wand and throw a fiery fireball straight at the face of the opposing mage.

”Of course,” the mage realized his situation was a bit dicey and hurriedly spoke up again, ”The lord understands your primary goal is to find the source of the plague and seek revenge on Shade Soul City.

He will permit you, noble kin, to freely search for clues within Deepwater City, and should anyone dare to hinder you, we will certainly intervene.”

”Are you implying that in Deepwater City, even if we discover the creator of the plague and malevolent undead, without the Black Staff’s permission, we cannot take action?

Isn’t this a natural right of the just?

Let’s not even mention us elves, do even Tyr’s Holy Knights who wish to pursue the truth require Kelben’s consent to do so?

Is justice only justice when decreed by Kelben?

Isn’t Mystra of the Kind Alignment? Since when must we embrace evil too?”

A male mage suddenly stepped forward, elegantly smiling as he inquired.

The two sitting next to Hill both ’tsked’ in unison: ”What a show-off!”

’Snow Cloud Peak’ himself had stepped forward.

The mage instantly became furious: ”How dare you insult my lord!”

”Which lord are you speaking of, Kelben or Mystra?” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ asked sharply.

”No need for further words, elf.” A hooded mage slowly emerged, ”In Deepwater City, as long as your actions do not contravene justice and goodness, no one will stop you.

Of course, those who will try to stop you are the enemy, and you are free to deal with them as you see fit.”

”Danilo Sane!” The mage suddenly let out a roar of anger, obviously not his own voice, and his body was also enveloped in a black glow. Black Staff Kelben seemed to have been distractedly parasitic in this apprentice all along.

”Teacher,” Danilo Sane said unapologetically, ”since you initially steered me towards the Harpist path, don’t feel now that I’ve lost my reason.

That I’m still capable of thinking clearly, and haven’t been driven mad by recent events, shows my strong will!”

The dark glow surrounding the mage dissipated: ”Suit yourself.”

”Who is this guy? How dare Kelben’s student speak to him that way and make decisions on his own?” ’Chattering’ asked, ”Does what he says matter?”

”Danilo Sane, Kelben’s niece’s son; Kelben once considered him a ’possible heir.’

Had it not been for the birth of the twins with great potential, the Tower of the Black Staff would have been his inheritance.

Reportedly, Kelben has been mentoring him since Danilo was twelve, and their relationship used to be very close.

He is also quite a skillful harpist; he used to manage many affairs in Deepwater City, and he is still one of the governors of the city.”

”Used to?” ’Chattering’ mused and pressed on, ”The Harpist Alliance, right?

Kelben has stepped down, hasn’t he?

Is this Danilo Sane still a member?

And since he is a governor, does that mean we already have the sanctioned right to kill we’ve been seeking?”

Hill nodded: ”You can ask Lynn about his affairs.

What Danilo Sane has declared as a governor certainly counts.

You don’t care whether others listen or not, do you?”

”That’s right, I’ll tell Old Dog right away. But aren’t you concerned, your mayor being a harpist as well?” ’Chattering’ grasped Hill’s hint, somewhat puzzled, ”Isn’t Mystra also part of that alliance?”

”Don’t you and other families also have your own alliance?” Hill asked with a wry smile, ”When it comes to action, do you listen to ’Perfect Bald’ or some other clan leader?

Alliances only share certain common grounds in stance, not a sharing of interests and power.”

’Chattering’ nodded in understanding and began typing eagerly.

’Magic Sword’ leaned over and asked, ”Does this mean we can disperse, right? Can I go find Little Golden Dragon for some drinks now?”

’Chattering’s hands froze midair, his lips curling into a sinister grin: ”Of course, go ahead!”
