Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 777: Chapter 576: The Crazy Actions of the Santalin Meeting

Hill gazed outside with dissatisfaction, the Undead Tribe were standing on the city walls using long-range spells, and there was some commotion as if something had happened; it seemed they were shouting something.

Although they also began to send people to stop the assassins who had entered the city, their reaction speed was much slower than that of the Seraphs intercepting in command of the Elven City Guards.

Looking at Hill who was very articulate and clearly dissatisfied, List said with a bit of bewilderment, ”Those are the strongest assassins from the Church of Bane! Anyone who dares to rush in like that must be a Legendary Assassin of at least level 20.

The Undead Tribe couldn’t possibly stop them.

Are you truly complaining, sir, or just speaking out of boredom?”

Hill was of course speaking out of boredom while waiting; if it were a strictly disciplined Army, it might be possible to block these shadow assassins, but for the Undead Tribe, it was already good enough if one of them could manage a defensive formation.

He was just feeling very uncomfortable all over.

Even though the noise diminished a lot after the window was closed, Hill’s ears could still hear that noise.

He couldn’t just kill those guys, otherwise the blasted Shadow Energy Core might end up in his hands; Hill truly didn’t hope to have Shaer visit him again.

Then he must wait until the battle over there ends; in the instant they leave, he could cause trouble, making that group of Bane’s Followers directly drop into the Planar Rift and leave the whale behind.

Only at that time would the mouth of the Otherworldly Whale be open, when he needs to summon the planar passage.

Before entering, its mouth would start to close; the opportunity only lasts for about one minute.

After all, the most precious thing about the Otherworldly Whale is that it can create a continual supply of air inside its closed mouth for Humans to breathe.

Not getting lost is just an added bonus.

Although Hill fully understood that for the sake of his Otherworldly Whale, he must be patient for a while, it really was very annoying!

He could easily snuff them out, yet, he had to endure the noise and wait for the right moment.

However, these assassins who had entered the city were quite adept at moving silently; they could even breach the Defensive Magic Array, slip into the shadows outside the city walls, and then leap out from another location within the city, and their levels were all above 20; the Undead Tribe truly didn’t have the ability to detect them.

Those intercepting them were squads of the Elf Crusade and Seraphs flying in mid-air behind them.

Contrary to what Hill thought, Coron didn’t plan on sending the Seraphs out only after the Elves were in danger.

To him, every Elf’s life was precious; even though they might not cherish it themselves, as the Father of Elves, he did not wish to see any Elf injured or killed under his watch.

So, every Santalin assassin who entered Agleya City saw, to their despair, the radiant wings of angels high above, and once surrounded, no shadows could be seen on the ground.

Even though he hadn’t taken action and was only watching from the side, the inherent Halo of the Seraph was enough to cause the assassins great pain.

The most basic ability of their Halos was to expel evil and heal injuries; of course, the healing only worked for those of Kind Alignment and was, conversely, a form of harm to these assassins from the shadows.

Hill, chin propped on his hand, patiently waited.

The battle of the Undead Tribe was quite fierce; this was their first time fighting without the advantage of numbers.

And besides, Hill felt they were somewhat restrained, unsure of what had happened.

Hill was watching the battle to the East when he suddenly paused.

The paladins of the Silver Shield suddenly charged out angrily, and some even headed to Tyr Temple to find the Demigod Captain.

Hill watched, somewhat bewildered, as that Captain mounted a Pegasus and charged straight toward the battlefield, and before leaving, he even hurled a gigantic hammer in the direction of the Otherworldly Whale.

That was the White-hot Warhammer!

Hill suddenly stood up; Tyr’s divine power was very damaging to corrupted creatures!

Fortunately, the Mages were even more concerned for their own lives; several of them put down the musical instruments in their hands and summoned Shadow Shields to fend off the resplendent warhammer.

List had already vanished to gather information.

Marsha’s attention was now concentrated on Agleya City, and List only needed to go to her core to find out what happened.

At least the noise was much quieter now; Hill touched his ears happily—it was finally not torturous, although Terry’s snoring turned into a sonic attack when amplified, it was still more melodious, at least it had some variation in rhythm.

Those Shadow Mages, upon realizing Hill had no intention of coming out of his study to battle them, started to deal with the demigod’s warhammer with all their might.

The white warhammer and the black circles of light violently collided, and Hill hadn’t expected that the Demigod Captain of the Silver Shield would use such a powerful Holy Power.

But more likely, he had just been communicating with Tyr and came out directly bearing Tyr’s divine power.

This was probably Tyr trying to counter Shaer’s Shadow Force.

Compared to other local deities of Toril, Tyr had always been very wary of the Lady of the Night; if he had the ability to confront Shaer, he certainly wouldn’t go easy just because of the presence of the Shadow Magic Net.

How could the God of Justice, whose lifelong mission was to Strike Evil, think that those who used the Shadow Magic Net were worth saving?

Tyr would definitely seize any opportunity to test the limits of Shaer’s power.

You must realize that what frustrates the deities of the Kind Alignment the most is that those who wield these evil artifacts are, aside from being evil, actually completely unrelated to the true owners of the artifacts.

Any Evil God can simply cast their artifact into the world, and no matter the race, there will always be greedy individuals willing to pay with their lives to pick them up.

However, the True Gods must choose their Chosen, and even sacrifice their own devout followers to resolve these carelessly created troubles.

Many times, it seems unreasonable to blame these deities for their inaction.

The humans of the Toril World do not necessarily need goodness; they only turn to these deities when luck is against them.

Evil deities rarely confront directly either, and Shaer is no different; unless she is pursuing Suren, she prefers not to take action herself.

Something like the Shadow Energy Core is already very close to the essence of Shaer’s power, so it’s no wonder that Tyr would take advantage of the situation to strike.

The divine power carried by the warhammer was too great, and the Shadow Shield sustained by the concerted efforts of the four was about to fall apart.

The remaining Shadow Mages clearly turned to glance at Hill’s Floating Castle and then set down their musical instruments, joining hands to counteract the warhammer.

It seems they still have an ace up their sleeve. Hill was a bit worried; it wouldn’t be a case of summoning the soul from the dark energy core, would it?

He thought about it carefully and decided not to go out. Although he wasn’t afraid, things had finally quieted down, and he didn’t want to create problems for himself.

He suspected that the moment he showed his face, that group would go berserk.

He would leave that earth-shattering, land-overturning sensation to Santarin to enjoy!

Hill really wondered if the Bishop of Bane at Santir Fortress was aware of the true effects of this thing. Is Shaer’s power also something that can be borrowed so casually?

The Dragon Sorcery Sect that converted a Shadow Dragon devout to Shaer into a Dragon Lich now even has a splinter faction worshiping the Lady of the Night!

As long as Shadow Magic is used, even without the Shadow Demon Network, one cannot escape Shaer’s grasp.

But truly, thanks to the divine inspiration of the captain of the Silver Shield, Hill supposed he might also be tired of listening. Although the Quiet Room in the temple could block out sound, it probably wouldn’t reach Legendary proportions.

Money doesn’t just fall from the sky; the materials required are very expensive!

Indeed, the price is so high that it would make Hill gasp.

Aside from the many precious materials, it seems a large amount of diamond fragments is also needed as the base ingredient, and these are indeed essential for most high-level magic spells.

Toril consumes a vast amount of diamonds; many merchants from different planes carry a small bag with them.

Not every plane’s diamonds can be used for spellcasting in Toril; they must be imbued with Earth Attribute magic power.

Hill had once thought that when out of money he could sell some, as the diamonds he transmuted are of very pure earth magic power.

However, after some calculations, he realized that gold bars were more suitable, and they didn’t require much effort.

List had returned, his expression tinged with sorrow: ”Sir, these people came through the wilderness from the east, passing through several kingdoms and Neverwinter on their way.”

Hill hesitated for a moment, then suddenly realized this was not just a game; zombies and skeletons couldn’t just be conjured out of nothing: ”They dug up...”

”Only the noble’s high-level graveyards and those protected by the Church were left untouched. All other public graveyards have been excavated, and the skeletons outside the east gate even belonged to those nations that fell decades ago.

Typically, such corpses belong to Professionals; ordinary people’s remains wouldn’t last that long.

The most troublesome are the zombies, sir, those who are remains of Professionals above level 8,” said List, shaking his head, ”Many of the Righteous Knights died in battles in the small towns, then were buried there.

Not every small town can have enough Church power to protect itself, and those mayors might not even be able to protect their own family graveyards.

Some from the Undead Tribe have good relations with the Silver Knights; upon recognizing the armor and symbols on those zombies, they notified the Paladins.”

Hill was bewildered: ”Has Santir Fortress gone mad? To take revenge, are they willing to forsake their own homeland?”

”Necromancers are inherently uncontrollable creatures,” List said with sadness, ”The Undead Scourge has always been their biggest reliance, previously just confined by Santir Fortress beneath the ruins of the city.

Once released, how could they still obey their commands? The Church of Bane doesn’t have the power to strip away their control over the undead.

Even though the Three Gods of Death all have dominion over necromancy, their jurisdictions are not the same.

Unless Bane completely devours Baal, it’s impossible for necromancers to submit to the Church of Bane.”

Hill stood up: ”Damn it!”

”Sir?”

”The resurrection of Baal seems to be fated, otherwise why would that cunning man from Santir Fortress commit such a foolish and insane act!”
