Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 752: Chapter 551: The Self-Deceiving Lynn

Hill remembered that Coron seemed to have no plans to establish a Temple in this city.

He looked through a few letters and found that these were merely tentative inquiries asking if Hill needed any assistance.

It was only after he asked for help that there would be a follow-up.

However, he did feel that it wouldn’t be long before these probing hands would briskly retract.

Especially once it was discovered how well the followers of the Dawn Church got along with the ”Teraxil Elves” as if they were brothers born of the same mother.

Lansendel has always been very approachable, often visiting various courts of the elf empires, and many elf nobles regarded him as a brother in life and death.

So Lansendel’s plan to make himself the Main God wasn’t short of participation from the devotees of the elven deities.

After all, Toril is a world where multiple faiths coexist, and like Lynn, he is a priest of Miliel, but he also worships Coron and another elf god.

Miliel didn’t mind these matters.

Otherwise, two elf empires would not have perished together, populations that numbered in the tens or hundreds of millions.

Otherwise, why would the elven pantheon simply accept their fate without taking issue with Lansendel?

Those elves had willingly participated.

The elves of that time had become so inflated in their ambitions that they wanted to establish their own independent God System. If Lansendel was six parts to blame, those elf monarchs and nobles aspiring to divinity shared the other four parts.

Of course, fate also dealt them a heavy slap.

The decline of the elves to the point they could not even handle demons was entirely due to a drastic drop in their population.

Especially at that time, it was a feat for the elven gods just to maintain their divine powers.

Particularly for those deities whose strength came mainly from worship, they were so preoccupied they would have fallen into deep slumber had it not been for Coron’s quick reaction, who opened up a new path for them in the Otherworld.

However, the elven gods, who could be said to have been betrayed by their own followers back then, weren’t really interested in saving those elves who had rebelled and wanted to be their equals.

Eternity Island’s current state actually stems from the complex relationships that began with the Dawn Calamity, and besides a fairly decent attitude towards the Elf Queen, the elven gods hardly bothered with the other Royal Family members.

Otherwise, with the protection of all gods, the former Elf King would not have been killed in the royal hall, the second most secured place after the King’s bedroom.

Regardless of how numerous the ”Teraxil Elves” were, the elven gods, once bitten by a dog, would not be interested in the commotion again.

Hill was just waiting for those popes to write back, ready to swallow all the probing words they had previously uttered.

More urgent than these matters, Hill, standing on the balcony and looking out, was more concerned that the Undead Tribe, having received the reward for the construction mission, had already started departing in groups joyfully heading south.

They’re heading to Deepwater? Is Coron being this direct?

”Mr. Lynn, Coron, in alliance with some deities of the Kind Alignment, has issued a task to the Undead Tribe: ’Investigate the source of the plague.’ Coron suggests they start from Deepwater City, which is nearby, mainly to investigate the status of those who had come here to seek treasure, to see if they are still alive,” List appeared behind Hill, ”There are also two other tasks that Coron released by himself: to receive those refugees and bodies from Myst Zhunuo.

And to eliminate all arcanists from Shade Soul City of the Evil Faction.”

Hill suddenly turned his head, ”Without exception?”

”Coron believes that those who are exceptions would not still be on the Ferun Great Land. Everyone knows that what follows is a furious vengeance by the elves and fairies. Those who are irrelevant should have left already,” List said, looking down.

No news has broken out from Myst Zhunuo yet. If any Great Archmage had obtained it, the others would have proclaimed the specific details; they wouldn’t allow a single person to profit alone.

”Does Coron know something?” Hill asked contemplatively.

”It’s not necessarily about knowing the reason for the madness in Shade Soul City, but it’s definitely related to something in Myst Zhunuo. And given the current situation, anyone would guess that it’s potentially related to the Nyscroll.

These remnants from the Eternal Color Era had something that made them sacrifice even the Floating City; there are generally only two things of that magnitude.”

The Nyscroll and the artifacts of the Archmage who doomed the first Goddess of Magic,” List sighed, ”Of course, Coron might also have such a guess. That’s why he’s issued a permanent acquisition mission: He’s buying anything that comes from Myst Zhunuo.”

The objective of Coron was clear—he was pleased as long as you were irritated.

The arcanists of Shade Soul City had been toiling so long that they had killed off a good portion of the demons underground, but of course, they had suffered heavy losses themselves.

Especially those dozen or so city lords, nearly every one of them was injured, yet none left the place.

In fact, the whole of Ferun had already guessed what they were seeking. If Shade Soul City’s arcanists weren’t the most proficient in Shadow Magic, thieves from all over the continent would flock there.

Even so, the message from the Harpist suggests that many shadow masters from various cities have disappeared quietly.

For example, those followers of Valkin who were taken down in Silvermoon City.

Hill fully grasped something after he took control of the Puzzle Lock; even if Ella had relinquished her position as the Lord of Silvermoon, she definitely still retained control over the Puzzle Lock.

Otherwise, the subordinates of that Lord of Silvermoon wouldn’t act so erratically, like a headless fly, attempting to court any new powerful figure that arrived, with such clumsy methods.

And Ella, who had seen it all, would be even less likely to entrust the power of the Puzzle Lock to such an immature successor.

The controller of the Puzzle Lock, if not sufficiently self-disciplined, could easily tread the path of a tyrant, as those dark little secrets would be far too accessible to them.

Hill now made a point of trying to forget that he had a Puzzle Lock at hand and was very supportive of the residents moving to the city further back.

If his curiosity ever outweighed his reason, Hill didn’t even want to know whether he would invade their privacy.

He still hoped to maintain that last bit of decency.

”Sir, Mr. Lynn has arrived,” List said softly, ”He would like to discuss with you how to manage the newly established city.”

”Please let him in.”

Hill returned to his desk and, seeing Lynn enter, smiled, ”Find yourself a spot to sit!”

He settled in comfortably before asking Lynn with confusion, ”What’s there to ask? A city built by Coron’s orders should naturally only allow elves to reside in it.

Humans can just stay over at the port side.”

Lynn glanced at the large sofa in front of the desk. Hill must have received not just one deity; that sofa now bore a peculiar pressure, and it felt somewhat complex.

Lynn found a chair to sit on, smiling wryly, ”Let’s not talk about that for now, Hill, are you just going to leave that sofa there? With such intense pressure, who do you think would dare to sit on it?”

Hill hesitated for a moment before he realized, thanks to the blessings from Teraxil’s land, the Sun, and Silvermoon, he was actually immune to any spiritual pressure.

Moreover, since he possessed divinity, unless someone targeted him with pressure intentionally, Hill genuinely couldn’t feel the usual divine aura.

”Sorry, Lynn,” Hill replied with slight embarrassment, ”I ignored it because I couldn’t feel it myself.”

Lynn couldn’t help shaking his head, ”Being friends with you is really pressuring! It’s strange, you don’t come off as a born demigod, but you seem stronger than the only other one I’ve met.”

”True born demigods would actually be like the gods of Sword Singers, Taslin Valadi, and the Goddess of Runes, Araslin Drana,” Hill said with a smile, ”The rest who are called demigods are just Legendary beings with divinity, not real gods.

For such demigods, it all comes down to their profession’s level, and even having divinity, one needs to work hard for it.

And as a Nature Mage, my level is quite acceptable.”

He did not say much more. Hill could guess the kind of demigods the Harpist might have met, who are all bloodlines left on the land of Toril by the gods in their Saintly Forms during the past.

Although one could call them demigods, a Legendary Mage could easily kill them, just like those Demigod Beasts of Teraxil.

Lynn thought it over and quickly grasped what Hill implied; those were actually just offspring of gods, not true born demigods.

But everyone had grown accustomed to honorifically referring to anyone with a trace of divinity as a demigod.

Lynn laughed, ”It’s only at times like this that you really seem like a Mage. But you’re actually a Magician, aren’t you? I can hardly tell.”

Undead unveil the truth at an ever rapid pace!

”Magician is a natural profession, Mage is my part-time job,” Hill could only reply with a smile.

Lynn took out a thick stack of papers from his Space Ring and handed them to Hill, ”There are many kinds of Magicians, ones like you with divine lineage have the confidence to hold a secondary job.

This is the city plan Coron asked Rashrael to bring over, I’m a bit confused, he seems to have no intention of allowing any other deity’s temples into the new Agleya City.

And he doesn’t plan to build his own temple either, just a forest alter on the woodland side for Rashrael to guard.”

Hill tilted his head, ”What’s your take on the Undead Tribe?”

”They’re hard-working! Although they like to joke around, they really put in the effort at work, much better than the elves,” Lynn praised, ”If you asked elves to do so much work at once, they would probably all take off.”

Hill blinked before rephrasing his thoughts, thinking of the most likely thing to make an elf vigilant, ”Lansendel’s worshippers are also quite capable.”

The pleased smile on Lynn’s face gradually faded.

”Didn’t you see the tasks published by Lansendel’s followers?” asked Hill quietly, ”Besides, he has been coming quite frequently, you must have seen him, right?”

”No, I’ve been trying to convince myself that it’s just a Great Peacock,” said Lynn decisively, ”Miliel told me that the Lord of Dawn has been up to something in the shadows again, and told me to stay away.

If I got involved, he warned he’d exile me without any qualms.”
