Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 776: Chapter 575: The Treasure Hill Desperately Wants to Own

List swiftly directed the puppets to close all the windows of the Floating Castle.

Hill was truly grateful to the germophobic and silence-loving Crystal Flower Ancestor; the noise that could enter the room had diminished significantly, finally allowing his eardrums to withstand it.

A bit annoyed, he walked to the window and looked toward the direction from where the sounds were coming over the ocean: Why did none of his arrays designed to protect against mental harm and isolate sound work at all? What in the world was this thing!

It was a dark-grey whale floating above the harbor, with several figures in black robes and hoods standing in its open mouth, one hand on a sphere alternating with Magic Energy and shadows, the other hand in front of their mouths playing a twisted pipe-like instrument with tiny wave patterns.

”Otherworldly Whale?” Hill murmured, ”Controlled with Negative Energy? It’s completely corrupted! They truly have a death wish!”

”Sir, I think you should be more concerned about the other two things. That black sphere seems like a Divine Artifact. And those, they look like instruments, right? I don’t find them very powerful, but how did these sounds penetrate the Defensive Magic Array?” List said helplessly as he floated beside him.

”It’s that Shadow Series black sphere that did it, nullifying all the Silencing Magic Arrays.

Who would bother to set up a Silencing Magic Array strong enough to resist a Divine Artifact at home? Such a bizarre idea.

I can feel that there are powerful, twisted spirits bound in there, just looking at it makes me feel sick.

A Divine Artifact that allows evil people to work together...” Hill said indifferently, ”It must be that damaged and corrupted Mithril Energy Core, they call it the Shadow Energy Core, right?

I didn’t expect it to end up in Santarin’s hands, no wonder there is such deep enmity between Shade Soul City and them.

Normally, these things would be in the hands of Felin Magic Mallow. The one behind Santarin must be a demon too, probably having formed an alliance.

Once Shade Soul City gets their hands on that Nyscroll, they would inevitably go to wipe them out.

The Naise Remnants hate these things the most, if they can’t take down Magic Mallow, couldn’t they wipe out a bunch of humans playing with shadow spells?”

He glanced again at the instrument and picked a book from his shelf, flipping it open: ”It’s good that I read all the books I collected back then. This weird thing should be called the Night Howl Horn, capable of emitting sound wave attacks just like the Night Howl Wolves.

For high-Level individuals, besides being unpleasant, it’s not really harmful.

But it might be tough for those of lower Levels, probably giving them headaches for a few days.

All the windows in the inn have been closed, right?

Magic Arrays are useless, but physical defense still counts.”

List nodded his head: ”They have been closed long ago, and I’ve told them to put on a few more blankets.

Luckily all the families of the Silver Shield had already moved to that city.”

Both of them were unconcerned about the Santarin assassins and Necromancers who had called forth skeleton zombies that were now rushing toward Agleya City from the wilderness in the East.

The Alchemy Hall, which had already moved there, was now securely attached to the city’s eastern walls, and the Undead Tribe were happily suiciding back to the city.

The majority of the Silver Knights had also moved into the city knowing that retaliation from Santarin was inevitable; Lynn simply directed them to protect their own people.

Same for the City Guard, they weren’t needed to defend the walls, just to patrol inside the city.

To scale the walls and charge straight in, the assassins and thieves from Santarin would have to be beyond Level 20.

And such individuals, even if they entered the city, would be marked immediately; Agleya City doesn’t have any blind spots.

The Elf Crusade, averaging Level 17 or higher, always fought in squad formation.

If they ever met a threat they couldn’t beat, they could still call on the Seraphs! What’s there to fear from a Banishment Spell, with the level of a Seraph, a group Banishment Spell would be useless.

Even if the mages of Santarin were strong enough to cast it one by one, the Undead are not fools; their preference for running on the ground does not mean they cannot fly.

That’s three squads formed by 36 Seraphs altogether; Hill even wondered if the Santarin mages have prepared enough Magic Slots for Banishment Spells before they get wiped out.

Hill returned to the window: ”I’m not very interested in that Shadow Energy Core, the souls locked inside are evil-doers that can’t be released. It’s useless to those who do not use the Dark Magic Web.”

Hill dared not even touch this thing.

He had no idea how many of Shaer’s schemes were hidden inside this Demon Core, and who knew if it would awaken from its slumber the moment he touched it.

Although Hill felt his will was strong, he had no intention of dying just to test it.

Trapped inside this thing was the spirit of a unique Salen Sprite, thrust inside by the Lady of the Night.

Then, the reason why it could draw Shadow Magic from Primordial Magic Power was apparently because the Salen Sprite contained the ceaseless strife of personae from three powerful individuals, one of whom was a major figure of Felin Magic Mallow.

Though it appeared to be just an energy vessel, the moment that sprite truly awoke, whoever used it would be doomed; wherever it was used, that place would be condemned.

You should know that Salen Sprites and Felin Magic Mallow are sworn enemies, locked in an endless feud.

When he woke up and saw that Felin Magic Mallow, his first reaction would only be to start a fight right away.

When the magic of a Salen Sprite comes into contact with the life-draining spells cast by the Felin Magic Mallow, it could directly alter the geography—perhaps turning mountains into hills, or hills into plains, or most likely causing the plains to split open and collapse.

Whoever dares to use this Shadow Energy Core is either ignorant or a madman.

You can only pretend you didn’t see this thing if you do see it.

As for those musical instruments, Hill had absolutely no interest in them, but he didn’t want to let this bunch walk away smirking; they had to leave something behind.

”The only thing I can take is this Otherworldly Whale!” Hill said with a touch of emotion to List, ”The rest are useless to me, and keeping them around would be pointless. Even Tyr wouldn’t want that thing!”

List let out a sigh, ”But that whale has already been corrupted! It’s beyond saving now!”

”But its soul is still there,” Hill glanced at the pitiful whale. Its color was corrupted, its eyes had turned black and red, looking only mad, but Hill could feel that within the whale’s strongest cranial bone, there was a faint white aura.

It was the last struggle of the captured Otherworldly Whale, not wanting to become an embodiment of evil like its body.

”Then we can only save its soul, right?” List asked, ”Its body can only be abandoned.”

With a smile, Hill said, ”Let’s save it first and see. I have to check if its bones have completely rotted.”

List, suddenly understanding, said, ”Sir, are you thinking of a Dimensional Whale Ship?”

”I know how to make such a ship that crosses planes—killing a whale myself, binding its soul as the Ship Spirit, and using its body. But I can’t do something so cruel,” Hill sighed, ”But since it’s been delivered to my hands, I won’t refuse it.”

”What does sir plan to do?” List pondered for a while but couldn’t think of a way to send these people away without leaving the whale behind.

”Indeed, an Otherworldly Whale can cross planes at any time to reach the oceans of any world,” said Hill with a smile, ”But their navigation relies on a special kind of high-frequency sound waves.” He took out a beautiful golden bell and, while List looked on in horror, gently tapped it, ”Thought it was useless!”

”Mr. Terry will hate you for this, sir,” List hesitated for a moment, but still said it.

”Of course not,” Hill raised his eyebrows, ”Isn’t this one of the Strange Objects I bought while I was out having fun? What does it have to do with Terry?”

Then he pulled over thirty black tablets, imbued with the breath of a Giant Dragon, from his ring: ”When Terry comes, remember to tell him, these tablets can only be looked at in the study! If he takes them out and his parents find out, I reckon Terry won’t be able to keep them.

I don’t want to fight with a friend’s parents over these things.”

With the temperament of a dragon, they need not care what these tablets are; they are made of Primordial Black Dragon scales! They wouldn’t care if they belonged to Terry or Hill, whoever seizes them owns them.

To a dragon, friends are never as important as treasures, nor are their children.

Terry won’t have this sort of thinking right now because he can’t keep anything and still needs Hill’s protection.

List shook his head in silence, if Hill really believed that Terry wouldn’t mind, why would he bribe him with gifts?

However, after examining the tablets, List was astonished, ”Are these the Giant Dragon’s self-study materials? Where did sir obtain them?”

He thought Hill bringing back a little fairy princess was already unbelievable, but to have a Subartifact as well?

When had Hill’s luck in Toril been so good?

Hill nodded, ”I got lucky and found them while buying ancient books in Icewind Valley. There are a lot more odds and ends too, put them in the warehouse later!

I was always going to show these books to Terry anyway; might as well use this opportunity.

When he comes, you’d better indirectly suggest that he should take on human form and copy them. These books are indeed very meaningful to dragons, but Terry isn’t a child who loves to study. It’s best to give him the feeling that he’s got a bargain by copying them.”

Unable to help but smile, List nodded, ”I’ll figure out a good way to phrase it with Marsha.”

Having settled on a plan, Hill sat by the window, increasingly pleased with the size of the Otherworldly Whale, and then became a little anxious, ”Why is the Undead Tribe’s action so slow? It’s just a few skeletons and zombies, right?

Shouldn’t they be burnt to ashes effortlessly? What are all those priests doing?

How could they let people into the city? Now even the Seraph have come out!”

No matter how anxious Hill was, he couldn’t lend a hand to help.

The Temporal Artifact and messages from Coron had long since warned him: in this battle, even if Hill had the capacity, he was not to intervene unless the Undead Tribe was thoroughly defeated and couldn’t even hold the gates.

The ’Teraxil Elves’ needed a victory that could daunt the world of Toril.
