Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 774: Chapter 573: The Profession that Hurts Little Fairy’s Self-Esteem

Hill and Lynn couldn’t help but laugh as they discussed how to handle the matter, Lynn’s expression was quite amusing.

For the Municipal Officer of Agleya City, he should be pleased that those ”Teraxil Elves” were registered under the name of this city. As they ventured further and stirred up more intense affairs, Agleya City’s name was becoming known throughout the world.

But as a member of the Harpist Alliance, he also faced some minor troubles.

Hill had heard early on that the Harpist Alliance was actually quite chaotic during this period. After all, the Santalin Meeting was much more secretive than they were, and these crooks were targeting all cities in The North.

Moreover, their backing the Santir Fortress, openly worshipping Bane, made them enemies most cities and countries were determined to extinguish.

The Harpists, although ostensibly because Black Staff Kelben had left the alliance and chose to withdraw from Deepwater City, still kept some spies there who were genuinely worried about being exposed.

Although it wasn’t harmful, it was too embarrassing.

So, they approached Lynn, hoping to reach a consensus with the Elves to let the Harpist spies off the hook.

After pondering for a while, Lynn rejected the Harpists’ request. His main reason for joining the Harpist Alliance was because Miliel was one of the organizers, not truly intending to devote himself to the peace of the Ferun Great Land.

Moreover, the current Harpist Alliance wasn’t as united as it appeared on the surface.

The current Mistra had single-handedly destroyed much of the alliance painstakingly formed by her predecessor.

Previously, the Harpists did not have so many exposed members, nor would they seriously set up a Harpist residence. Their identities were hidden.

Although he rejected their request, Lynn’s feelings were still complex, and he didn’t know how to ease these messy emotions. So, his expression became somewhat more animated whenever this matter was mentioned.

He had been with the Silvermoon Alliance for so many years; the Harpists rarely acted as aimlessly as now.

As ones forever on the side of goodness, shouldn’t the Harpists be applauded for striving to eradicate evil, as shown by those ”Teraxil Elves”?

Since staying in Deepwater City was now pointless, the former Harpists would have given up their mission directly, ceased snooping around, or simply withdrawn from Deepwater City, not to mention affecting a colleague’s career over such matters.

But now, the Harpists seemed more like a real spy organization than a just alliance.

Hill knew what distressed Lynn the most; the current Harpists simply didn’t care about disrupting a colleague’s normal life for such trivial matters anymore. If Lynn really spoke on behalf of the Harpist’s spy activities, what face would he have left to continue as a city’s mayor?

Who would still believe in Lynn’s loyalty?

Even if Hill didn’t mind these things, the highly self-respecting Lynn wouldn’t possibly stay with Hill after doing such a deed.

But those words were something Lynn, still nostalgic for the Harpists, would absolutely not speak aloud.

”By the way,” Hill said, as if he suddenly remembered something, interrupting Lynn’s thoughts, ”although the Gnomes won’t come, the Pixies might still appear.

However, they won’t wander far from the Floating Castle.

So do remember to notify the residents that if they get lost within the Puzzle Lock area, to call for Marsha and List for help; both of them can use the Puzzle Lock to clear those illusions.

Of course, if they want to play games with the Pixies, they can also find their own way out. The Pixie’s Illusion Technique always allows for an exit; they just love to play.”

Lynn couldn’t help but sigh, ”Hill, I don’t know what others will do, but the Elves from Eternity Island will definitely go crazy playing this game.

Since leaving the Supreme Forest, the magic wands of the Fairy Spirits and the Pixies’ mischievous tricks have become merely memories. For those of us as old as my cousins, it’s even just a bedtime story.”

”The forests of Eternity Island aren’t small though!” Hill asked a bit puzzledly, ”How come it sounds like the Elves are almost abandoned by nature?”

”Only the Water Spirits still maintain good relations with the Elf Fleet.” Lynn said with a reluctantly amused smile, ”The Little Fairies, although very naive, are also more astute and generally only like simple-minded Elves.

Do you think the Elves who expelled all Half-Elves from Eternity Island are still that innocent?

Even if it was the nobles who did it, the ordinary Elves agreed.”

Hill shook his head, ”No wonder your relationship with those Elves is so strange.”

Lynn laughed, the reason the Elf Crusade was so compliant was that they knew they had no personal dealings with Lynn, and everything had to be strictly business.”

Lynn’s cousins, although they cared deeply for their comrades, would definitely not trouble Lynn over those who had once bullied their cousin.

The Galle brothers dived headfirst into the harbor, having no intention of going to Agleya City.

No wonder Lynn was willing to let go of those unfriendly childhood memories for these few Galle.

”Actually, the Elves... well... how to say this...” Lynn said with a mixture of laughter and helplessness, ”They don’t really have many ways to bully others, and they aren’t harmonious with each other, so it’s not possible for them to bully me together.

My childhood was unpleasant, but not miserable, and not to mention once my cousins caught them bullying me, they would immediately step in and punch.”

But elves never held grudges; conflicts that arose would end the same day, and they would play together again the next day.

But this also meant they would not learn from their mistakes, and it was very possible they would suddenly want to find fault with me, so the beatings I took yesterday would continue today.”

Lynn looked at Hill very seriously and said, ”But this only applies to these unpredictable juvenile elves.

Their parents are extremely annoying; I would rather fight with those children than face the looks of those adult elves.

It was those adult elves who took my family’s matters to the Parliament for discussion.

In fact, everyone knew about my family’s issues, but at that time, no one wanted to offend my grandmother.

But there always comes a time when it is worth speaking out, and this is a good reason for the Navy to strike against those who do not listen to them.

Even though I fought daily, I was very, very reluctant to leave back then, not to mention my mother, who was forced to leave her beloved warship, which left her perpetually melancholic.

Hill, do you know how happy I was when I saw the little fairies?

Over in Eternity Island, they always said that once the little fairies left Toril, they would never return, which is why you would never see them in the island’s forests.

But actually, that’s not the case.

They just dislike the elves now.

For those proud old-timers, being abandoned by Coron and the Elven Pantheon didn’t seem to bother them; it was a matter of ideology, and even the Father of Elves can’t require his children to act only as he wishes.

But the disdain of the little fairies represented just one thing—their so-called order was, in fact, cold-blooded.”

Lynn leaned by the window, watching groups of little flower fairies in the aerial courtyard with pleasure.

Hill felt that he seemed to have let go of many burdens.

He figured it out too; although Lynn always felt that his family was not at fault, he had still absorbed quite a number of criticisms about mixing bloodlines from the nobles on Eternity Island.

Though these individuals primarily targeted the Royal Family, they always wore a façade of legitimacy.

It wasn’t until seeing the little fairies that Lynn truly believed that the ugly rules of Eternity Island were wrong and evil.

Hill didn’t know for what the little fairies had abandoned the elves, but if Lynn thought so then let that be the truth for now; a Lynn letting go of his suppressed emotions was clearly about to advance again.

Lynn had recently taken on a new advanced profession, and his growth had been rapid, but Hill hadn’t expected him to reach Level 6 so quickly.

Although Hill wasn’t very fond of his profession as a Law Enforcer, Lynn was indeed well-suited for it.

Truly befitting someone who had been a Sheriff for many years.

Lynn watched the little flower fairies’ song and dance gala for a while, then turned to Hill and said, ”The gift Miliel promised you might take about half a month to arrive; he said it’s a gift involved with many deities, and it will surely satisfy you.

But I see you don’t really care what it is, since you haven’t asked about it once since you came back.”

Hill smiled; he truly didn’t care what the gift was, but it was his due. Since the deities had left Valkin in his hands, they naturally had to pay him a ransom.

This was not just for him but also to show the whole of Toril, so Hill wasn’t worried about the quality of the compensation.

But whether it was something Hill needed, that was another matter.

Hill decided to wait and see; if it turned out to be a Divine Artifact he didn’t need, he would leave it in Agleya City as a source of power.

”Hill, I smell something evil; the wind from Agleya City brings sinful news,” Lynn said somewhat dazedly, ”They have come from the wilderness in the east, probably waiting for nightfall.”

As soon as he had spoken, Lynn snapped back to his senses and scratched his head. ”I haven’t heard that Law Enforcers’ intelligence could include scents in the wind. Hill, why is it different here?”

”It’s the power of the flower fairies~” Vila flew in and clung to Hill’s long hair again, ”I smelled the stench too and wanted to tell you, Hill!

Little fairies are too fragile, so the wind elves convey any dangerous information to us so that we can avoid dangers in time.”

Seeing Lynn’s skeptical look, Hill smiled and said, ”The goddess of the wind elves, Vilanesri, is Vila’s elder sister.”

Lynn then nodded, ”I’ll head to the municipal office to prepare. Looks like it’s going to be a sleepless night.”

As Hill watched him walk away, Vila said unhappily, ”Why does he think I am lying?” Hill was silent for a few seconds before saying, ”His profession has a halo that can discern whether you are telling the truth.”

Vila looked shocked. ”How can there be such an abnormal profession in the world? Is this specifically created to bully little fairies?”
