Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 775: Chapter 574: Attack that Injured Hill

Hill watched Vila, the leader of the Flower Fairies, who was quite dissatisfied with her profession, and could only respond with a helpless smile.

Hill had actually grown accustomed to the constant natural alarms while these adorable little ones told him stories.

The Little Fairies believed they were recounting the ancient affairs of the gods they had witnessed, which they liked to explore historically.

Of course, after a bit of interesting personal adaptation, otherwise, how boring it would be.

It was just a bunch of adults, gods fighting each other, the reasons almost always the same. The Little Fairies didn’t like it; the stories they told were interesting.

Thus, for the same deity, in the dozens of stories Hill heard, only the name remained constant, yet the deeds and reasons for fighting were never the same and were most bizarre.

However, the race of Little Fairies truly seemed to have been born for pranks, and even the serious-minded Vila’s first reaction to the impossibility of lying was anger.

It wasn’t exactly lying, for there was always a bit of truth in their words, but it was definitely colored by the Little Fairies’ whims, extravagantly exaggerated on the aspects they enjoyed most.

Very few people sought the truth in their words; that was too tiring.

It was only afterward that one would realize which part of their words was true.

Vila, the leader of the Flower Fairies, really was the one with the least falsehood in her words.

Therefore, Hill only dealt with her, leaving all matters concerning the Little Fairies to Vila to handle, or else Hill felt he would have ringing ears.

Calming the agitated Vila, convincing her to forgive both himself and Lynn, really exhausted much of Hill’s energy.

For the Little Fairies, warning them that someone was not easy to deceive often had the opposite effect; they would fight even harder.

Lynn must be very busy recently, Hill thought a bit guiltily.

Hill was genuinely worried if Lynn had to spend all his spare time playing the ’guess what I’m going to trick you with today’ game with the Little Fairies, what on earth he would end up doing.

The most likely outcome would be dragging Hill out to work.

Lynn didn’t mind being busy, but he definitely cared if Hill did nothing but complicate things for him.

Though feeling somewhat sorry for Lynn, Hill at least extracted a promise from Vila not to seek out Lynn for the Little Fairies’ mischief tests during this period.

Even if Lynn came to the Floating Castle and the Temple District, he should not face hundreds of Flower Fairies and Pixies trying to deceive him.

As for later, playing games with the Little Fairies when bored could indeed be a fun way to pass the time!

Hill didn’t think that, after the Undead Tribe had traversed the entire Northern Continent, there would be many public security events left in Agleya City for Lynn to manage.

Hill certainly couldn’t tell Lynn that creatures like the ’Teraxil Elves’ would bring so many changes to Toril.

These matters could only be proven by time, and Hill also didn’t want to say them aloud.

Once some words were spoken in this world, they might be recorded by the Tablets of Fate; what if they evoked some reaction?

Hill didn’t think that old codger AO was anywhere near kind.

Unless AO could once again open Toril’s Crystal Wall to allow the deities to descend in their true form to the surface, those specific reactions were basically useless.

Saintly Form wasn’t so easily driven to despair by the ’Teraxil Elves.’

It’s not like it couldn’t break through defense.

But less trouble was better, and he did not wish to become direct enemies with the gods of Toril.

Hill actually truly felt that the small troubles brought about by the Little Fairies were quite delightful.

It wasn’t as if he could waste the new profession Lynn had chosen so thoughtfully!

To better manage the city, he had actually chosen to become a Law Enforcer.

While it might seem unbelievable, this was indeed an advancement for a Bard.

The most basic skill of this profession, just like the Holy Knight, was the ability to Detect Evil.

The requirements to join the profession of Law Enforcer were simple, yet few could meet them: One must establish a city in one’s heart as their eternal defensive area and swear before the god they worshiped to always uphold justice and fairness in all their actions there.

This oath alone generally deterred most people. No one could lie in front of a god unless they were not a true believer.

The greatest ability of Law Enforcers was to find signs of crime in the information they gathered and to carry out judgment, which actually suited Agleya City quite well.

Lynn didn’t even need to gather information himself; he just had to stay in the city hall to see everything that happened in the city.

But once he left that city, he would lose all the abilities he had gained there, whether in terms of Law Enforcer level or professional skills—an almost complete binding of himself to that city.

Hill did not wish for Lynn to do this; he always felt that freedom was more important.

However, for Lynn, the profession he loved most was that of a Sheriff, but the old Quel’var Town simply wasn’t worth his dedication.

Compared to this Law Enforcer, he had even considered switching to become a Magic Guard in Silvermoon City!

Wouldn’t that be more trouble, as it would mean binding his life and death with Silvermoon City?

Moreover, Miliel supported him becoming a Law Enforcer, providing him great convenience. Lynn hardly needed to exert much effort, as this profession was originally created by Miliel with the help of Oghma.

In Toril, many deities actually do not wish to entrust some enforcement powers to Tyr’s Holy Knights, but they too need their own city safety management professions, of which there are actually many.

But only the ones established by Miliel are a bit more righteous.

Therefore, Lynn was very insistent. Had it not been for the need to bind to the city requiring the approval of City Lord Hill, he would have switched directly himself.

Being a Sheriff for a long time, some matters had already turned into his pursuits.

The freedom valued by Hill was something Lynn never cared about; often, Lynn felt it was only Mages who constantly discussed freedom, followers of the Lord of Dawn would not think that way.

After seeing the Law Enforcer profession list brought by Lynn, Hill actually started to suspect that Lynn chose this profession to gain the Realm of Honesty.

When Lynn was previously a Sheriff, what annoyed him most was judging who was right or wrong among the adventurers.

However, this profession suits Bards quite well, and were it not for the significant bindings, probably many would be willing to take the position, more flexible compared to Holy Knights, and the verdicts reached are of a higher truthfulness.

Lynn seems really suited for this profession, just a few months in, and he’s already Level 5, soon to be Level 6.

Hill hopes that Lynn can find a way to foster good relations with Vila, as having the help of the Wind Elf would be even better for Lynn’s new profession.

He clearly understood that Lynn’s choice was also to ensure that Hill’s rule was not affected, otherwise the most suitable position for Lynn would have been Governor.

But a Governor desires more power, and many people, after reaching higher positions in their professions, can’t tolerate having a boss who doesn’t handle affairs looming over them.

Although Lynn didn’t think he would do that, he still outright refused this possible complication.

Yet, he indeed had the qualifications for the position of Governor.

After he became a Law Enforcer, his group of Galle cousins took him out to sea on their self-built boat to discuss this matter.

They were concerned this was Hill’s way of limiting Lynn, so they specifically took Lynn far out to sea, away from the Puzzle Lock, to thoroughly discuss this matter.

They were even more worried that Lynn’s bringing a large group of Elves from Eternity Island had aroused Hill’s suspicions; if that were the case, the Galle brothers were willing to take the Elf Crusade and leave the city to find another suitable settlement.

In the end, it was only with Miliel’s oath that Lynn convinced these overly concerned cousins.

Their boat had indeed sailed far enough; they also took precautions that there was no fog here.

But when Hill left his territory, to be promptly informed about this side, he actually placed several Lily of the Valley Bells throughout the Sea of Swords.

Their boat happened to stop within the range of one of these small bells.

Also, because he heard this, Hill did not send the information obtained by the Lily of the Valley to Lynn but handed it to List to sort out.

In the short term, there really wouldn’t be any significant news; let’s wait until a year later when these small bells had completely turned to ash!

Hill quietly leaned by the window. He was somewhat unsure of how those from Santalin planned to deal with him.

The Undead from Agleya City currently loitered in the wilderness very far away; even if they flew back by magic. it would probably take more than a day.

As long as Hill was restrained and the Seraphs were banished back to the Stellar Realm, it seemed Agleya City could indeed allow the assassins to freely commit arson and pillage.

Even if the Undead from Deepwater City came back to defend, they weren’t worried because, for the Church of Bane with many Necromancers, numbers were never the biggest issue.

Well... although this plan sounds quite foolish, the Undead are now still just ’Teraxil Elves’, they are numerous and look similar, and the Toril people still do not quite understand their properties.

The few deities who knew a little about them all maintained silence on this matter.

Leaving aside the issue of the Undead, someone will eventually stumble into this pit; it suits Hill perfectly if it were the demon-backed Santalin Meeting who fell into it.

Hill was looking forward to that method that could restrain him.

Wanting to kill Hill, unless Bane made a move, there was a slight possibility; that Eye Demon behind Santalin hasn’t got the capability, but that creature was also quite knowledgeable and might really find a way to suppress Hill.

So Hill had Vila teleport back to the Joyous Court with all the Little Fairies; their method of dealing with Hill would definitely involve large-scale attacks, and the Little Fairies were too fragile, best not to take risks.

Hill himself was baffled about how to continue strengthening his own abilities; taking out the Magic Book even left him bewildered, not knowing what the next step should be.

He truly hoped to find some clues in this upcoming battle.

He soon found out; Hill, covering his ears, turned the Isolation Array of the Floating Castle to its highest setting. How could there be such an awful sound!

Though not highly damaging, it indeed bound the highly sensitive ears of Hill.
