Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 390: Chapter 189: Money and Beauty Are All Illusions

If at first it was just about taking a little advantage, the proficiency with which the Undead girls used their Toss of Heaven and Earth Spell grew, and both the low-rank Undead and the Nobles started taking things more seriously.

The Nobles who stepped up to the stage no longer dared to play tricks, but began engaging in earnest combat.

Even the Great Nobility gradually forgot their original purposes, vying instead for the Undead beauties’ attention with their excellence and charisma.

Now, they had become Professionals fighting over a few dozen Crystal Stones.

The low-rank Undead, originally meant to be won over, had become the Nobles’ opponents.

They cheered and jeered, treating the Nobles they once respected and aspired to, like Gladiators in an Arena, all for a bit of money.

Hill didn’t know what ultimate goal the high-level Undead had in mind, but at the very least, the Nobles would not feel that these newcomers would be easier to win over.

Compared to the high-level Undead who showed from the start that making money was their top priority, these individuals, who had once greatly admired the Nobles’ nobility, were probably even more despised by the Saral Nobles.

Of course, that would be after they returned to their senses.

Hill leaned on the ship’s rail, quietly enjoying the undignified spectacle of the Nobles whose minds had been clouded by passion.

Whether they had been tricked by the high-level Undread or there was something amiss with the platform, these Nobles had willingly turned their dignified image into that of gamblers and degenerates.

The price paid by the high-level Undead was nothing more than an afternoon’s time and a few thousand Crystal Stones.

Maybe also Old Dog’s hair, considering the extent of the losses, he should be going bald.

Adrian’s idea was good, but since the Undead couldn’t kill those Nobles, his method would only work a few times before no Noble would fall for it again.

Old Dog and his group, however, did not plan to let anyone off the hook.

Being physically battered and recovering after a few days to step out again was one thing, but this current situation stung much deeper.

The Nobles, almost turned to gamblers, were nearly falling apart, unlikely to ally happily against the high-level Undead anymore.

Even the Great Nobility had disputes over betting speeds.

While gambling, backing one’s own bets as the banker wasn’t originally an issue, but now, some were accused of breaking the rules.

And it wasn’t the low-order Undead who accused them, but some of the Nobles.

Yet, this wasn’t the end; Hill was surprised to see that the low-order Undead had decided to take the stage themselves.

Much of these Nobles were indeed Grand Knights, and their level was mostly comparable to that of the low-order Undead, some of whom were quite capable warriors.

But the Nobles certainly couldn’t compare to the Great Nobility who had honed their skills for decades, could they?

None of their peers made bets on those who took the stage, indicating they had no confidence in them.

Hill pondered for a moment and realized those who went up all thought themselves particularly handsome.

Attraction to the opposite sex, was that really meant for these individuals?

Indeed, the rank of Sky Knight, unattainably high for the Nobles, was, in the eyes of these low-rank Undead, just a level they could eventually reach; none of them believed they were from different worlds than those beautiful women.

The high-level Undead ladies indeed chose a few whom they found handsome to place their bets on, and even in loss, they showed no dissatisfaction, continuing to giggle and whisper among themselves, prompting many to perk up their ears, hoping to hear if the ladies had their eyes on someone.

”I guess,” Merkel suddenly said, ”that they’re discussing how nice it is to have such an abundance of fools.”

”They’re probably discussing when to start the fight,” Hill said slowly, ”I hope the Nobles will be sensible. The high-level Undead are coming back, they’re just at the outskirts, not here yet.”

Curious for once, Merkel stood up, grasping the ship’s rail and looking around.

Then, unable to hide his excitement, he clicked his tongue a few times.

It seemed that, to this Leopard, none of the Humans were good, but those from his home turf were especially bothersome.

The ancestors of these Nobles were the ones most stained with the blood of the Magical Beasts.

Although he didn’t care about the past anymore, most would take pleasure in the misfortune of former adversaries; Hill could understand this sentiment.

After all, this was a Leopard with grand ambitions, always occupied with the legacy of the Magical Beasts.

An Undead who was bet on probably also belonged to the fast and skilled in his own world, having learned some Boxing-like skills.

Fortunately, he met a Grand Knight Noble who was slightly fatigued from several previous matches, and he actually won.

After stepping down, he took out a Rose from his bag and offered it to a high-level Undead lady sitting aside.

With captivating, seductive eyes, the young lady took the Rose, sniffed it gently, then her eyes lifted in a small smile.

The lady, who smiled charmingly at the gentleman who offered her the flower, further ignited the atmosphere on the scene.

Watching the beauties laugh and whisper to each other, interlocking arms, the Nobles who were planning to retire from the game were once again filled with a fighting spirit.

Although they would not forsake the dignity of nobility to fawn over women beyond their reach,

they also did not want these useless individuals to step on their backs as they climbed to a higher status.

”Is this really a guy?” Merkel lay prone and watched intently, unable to help but ask again.

Hill was silent for a few minutes before he spoke, ”They’re actually quite famous among the Undead Tribe. Old Cat, you remember, right? He loves to post all sorts of funny videos, and these guys are always featured in them.”

”Then even if they are not from the same country, they are always from the same world. Why don’t they know anything?” Merkel inquired thoughtfully, ”Are the relationships between them really that indifferent?”

”It’s not necessarily indifference, but the relationships definitely aren’t that good. So usually, only the positive images are flaunted. For the somewhat comedic ones, even if people know of the incident, it’s not certain how many would actually recognize the people involved in real life.

They can only come to this world, but it’s not guaranteed that they can see each other’s video information.” Hill reflected on his own world and concluded it was likely the same even with advanced technology.

Merkel thought for a moment and then said, ”Is it like the relationship between Elves and Humans? Although they live in the same world, their relationship is peaceful but with an underlying opposition.”

Hill looked up thoughtfully and spoke the truth, ”I think it’s probably more akin to the relationship between Humans and Magical Beasts. Elves are enemies to Humans, it’s just that they have no choice but to compromise. Whereas with Magical Beasts, if they had the chance to drive out the Elves, they wouldn’t hesitate, would they?”

”How is that similar?” Merkel turned to look at Hill, not denying their animosity towards Elves.

”As long as Humans remain forever powerful, the relationship between Magical Beasts and Humans is peaceful,” Hill stated decisively, ”But occasional small conflicts are unavoidable.”

Merkel nodded in agreement.

Yet he eventually commented, ”Magical Beasts must also become strong; otherwise, if Humans grow too powerful, what Dwarves can achieve, Humans might very likely do as well.”

Hill could not deny this.

The desires of Humans are the hardest to satisfy; this is understood by all.

But Elves are different. Hill looked silently at the Forest of the Elves. Whether Humans or Magical Beasts have the upper hand, given the chance, they would expel these unwelcome guests from this world without hesitation.

The flames of battle below were nearly igniting.

In the minds of the Nobles, yielding to High-level Undead was quite ordinary; respecting and giving way to someone so much stronger than oneself was not humiliating.

Indeed, they would not initiate conflict with Low-order Undead, recognizing that even these individuals would not advance slowly in rank.

But after all, the Nobles had their pride and would definitely not bow down before the Undead who had not yet advanced in rank.

As the actions of the Low-order Undead grew increasingly audacious, the Nobles could not hold back any longer. They headed to the Forest Array without hesitation, restored themselves, and then charged toward the Arena once more to ruthlessly kill those who saw the Nobles as mere stepping stones for courting women.

After all, these Undead could be resurrected.

The expressions of the Saral Nobles brimmed with provocation, their chins held high, as if questioning whether these Low-order Undead truly dared to lay hands on them.

Within William’s Divine Realm, their lives were absolutely secured.

As real anger burst between the Low-order Undead and the Nobles, resulting in death on one side and injury on the other, those few High-level Undead finally burst out laughing.

Their boisterous voices caused everyone on the Arena to halt in shock.

The scene fell silent except for the resonant hearty laughter.

”Ah! It’s gotten late! We should head back!” The beauty who had received the Rose still smiled radiantly, stretching lazily and contorting her body into a dazzling curve.

However, the nearby onlookers stood motionless with faces pale and bodies stiff, devoid of any mood to appreciate the beauty.

He reverted to his original voice, heartily calling out to his friends: ”Let’s go! These little buggers can only fight this much. We haven’t even used half of our budget, what a waste.”

Before his words finished, a Spell’s radiance descended upon them, and among the Low-order Undead, some had lost their rationality and attacked these individuals far more powerful than themselves.

”Ambush!” Another beauty called out in her manly tone, posing and setting off a distress firework.

One individual, standing a bit further away, realized he was nearly missed by the magical light and hurriedly trotted forward, rushing into the fray.

”Damn it, it’s a trap!” The Low-order Undead had already realized it.

The Nobles, reacting quickly, scrambled into the Forest Array.

Any slower, and the only path left was one covered in severe wounds.

Especially those who particularly adored these ladies, having lingered around them more than once.

Of course, these severely wounded Nobles were thrown into the Forest Array before they hit the ground.

”Hill, stop watching the commotion. Activate the Forest Array, don’t let them die,” William’s voice rang in Hill’s ear.

Hill lazily flew down, quietly cast a Water Mist Spell, followed by a Tide Dance Moon Welcoming.

Then the giant trees’ branches moved to block all the incoming attacks.

As for the Nobles still lying on the ground, let them lie there and wake up their brains!
