Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 382: Chapter 181: Saral’s Nobles in Action

Since Fran’s Magic Tower was built with a balcony, Adrian had been using it for a while and had also gotten used to flying in and out of the top-floor window.

Unfortunately, it was not possible for a Mage’s Magic Tower to exist without other people around, otherwise Fran would have definitely built a top-floor balcony as well.

Recently, he had been thinking about changing the interior arrangement of the Magic Tower to see if he could create a large internal platform.

It would be nice if the ceiling, like that of the old Saral Royal Palace, could open and close automatically.

Fran had already found many materials with good extensions of defensive power and planned to experiment with them one by one.

As Fran flew down to the bottom of the pit, he said, ”Don’t mention it to Hill; just make sure no news leaks from our Magic Tower.”

Adrian nodded gravely, ”Understood, teacher. In Saral now, there should be no one who would collude with the Elves, right? Those from the Mage Association should be too preoccupied to bother us now. I’ve seen a few guys who, not worried about Demon attacks, just flew away.”

”There’s always someone who will do tasks for money,” Fran said indifferently, withdrawing an engraving tool, ”I just don’t like dealing with issues stirred up by people inside my own Magic Tower.”

Adrian nodded, understanding that this was his teacher’s warning.

The past could remain unspoken, but from now on, if someone inside his Magic Tower still colluded with the Mage Association to betray Hill’s secrets after Fran’s warning, Adrian could deal with them directly.

This was the Tower Master’s command, and those who disobeyed would be killed; the Mage Association would not utter a word.

Adrian only needed to ensure that he acted within the rules and didn’t give anyone any excuse to trouble him. He wasn’t yet required to grovel to the Mage Association.

Hill was deeply engaged in his work when suddenly someone flew toward the Cloud House.

The unmistakable elemental power meant it was undoubtedly an Undead.

Hill stood up and saw Snow Cloud Peak, ready to knock at the door of the Defensive Magic Array.

This fellow really had been out of sight for a long time.

Why wasn’t he leading the war effort with the Dwarves and instead came to him?

Hill let him in.

”Mr. Hill, long time no see,” Snow Cloud Peak landed on the grass, eyes filled with envy as he glanced around the small house in the clouds.

”You didn’t manage to buy it?” Hill started laughing.

”Those guys, knowing I was away, deliberately kept it from me. By the time I found out, it was already sold out. Srei said that you would only start selling again after the war here ends,” Snow Cloud Peak said with an annoyed expression. ”Last night, when I rested, hundreds of cloud houses flew up into the sky, and I was the only one without! Baldy even directly told me that there’s no helping it, married men aren’t welcoming single men to stay over.”

Hill couldn’t help laughing: ”I have a few finished products here. It’s just that the interiors aren’t fully equipped yet, I usually have Marsha handle those...”

”I’ll take it! However many you have, I’ll take! I’ll take them back for the family’s young ladies to decorate, it’ll save them from having nothing to do and making trouble!” Snow Cloud Peak almost had stars in his eyes.

Hill thought that having glowing eyes meant wearing laser glasses; only now did he realize that some people really could emit light from their eyes.

”You guys are going to fight again?”

”No, Mr. Hill, you know about the people from another country in our world, right?”

Seeing Hill nod, Snow Cloud Peak said with a wry smile, ”We only used to prepare for when they got high enough level and strong enough to confront us head-on. But now, I suspect our country’s women will start fighting them first.”

Hill looked at him, puzzled.

”Women in that country can be promiscuous, can stir up trouble, but can’t be on equal professional footing with men.

It looks like there are many strong women, but it doesn’t affect the low status of their ordinary female citizens.

It’s completely different from our country.

We used to hear about their fierce women’s rights and didn’t take it seriously, but now we finally realize that the women’s rights they want in their country is normal in ours, so these people can’t stand us.

The disdain for women is almost everywhere there, although it’s covered up with what they call gentlemen’s manners respecting ladies.

If it were in our country, fortunately, our women wouldn’t suffer, and we generally wouldn’t stoop to their level, why bother with frost on someone else’s roof!

But now, Spencer has them command these newbies to complete missions, and it’s mostly the girls in our families who don’t like to fight who are in charge.

Their personalities are generally more gentle, and they have been very upset recently.

There have even been instances where tools for issuing orders were directly stolen, with excuses like letting the ladies rest properly.

Probably because the status of women isn’t high enough abroad, and those who aren’t tough enough end up yielding control, allowing these men to succeed in usurping power.”

Our country, even the gentle ones who don’t speak much, might be managing a team of dozens,”

Anyway, it was causing a big stir.

Yesterday, they even beat up a sexual harasser, the one who stole the tools.”

Hill listened with interest and poured Snow Cloud Peak a glass of juice to soothe his throat.

”Actually, our country, in the past, also took a detour; inevitably, when social development brings pressure, various problems emerge. But as society progresses to a certain level, it gets well sorted out,” Snow Cloud Peak shrugged. ”That was hundreds of years ago. When work hours reduce, who cares how long you need to rest for having a baby! Just finish the work.

It’s just them, still stuck with the notion that gentlemen should let girls live well and rest well.”

Snow Cloud Peak smirked, ”So it’s no wonder that all the girls from their country want to marry into ours. If you have the ability, you should have the status. Forcing someone to work several times harder to achieve the same results just to give them hope is a crime.”

Hill chuckled and nodded in agreement.

”Mr. Hill is a gentle person, so he thinks our idea is good,” Snow Cloud Peak smiled, ”But it seems that the Saral nobles don’t think the same! They also believe that men should exert more effort.”

”Don’t bother with them,” Hill finally understood the purpose of this fellow.

Logically, Duke William should have known about their conflicts with the Saral nobles by now, but he hadn’t intervened, probably letting them resolve it themselves.

This was a clash of world views, not something that could be resolved by simply issuing an order.

Let them sort it out themselves, as long as no one is killed.

In fact, there was already a bias towards the Undead Tribe.

In this camp, the Undead Tribe only worried about Hill and Fran, the two Legendary figures, who might disapprove of the Undead Tribe’s actions.

”Neither I nor my grandfather will care about such matters,” Hill said with a smile, ”My grandfather has always believed that women should also have their own careers, not just rely on someone else to live. But he also knows that in this world, there’s no room for ordinary women to live independently. That’s why he has always admired the independence of the girls from the Undead Tribe.”

Snow Cloud Peak received a satisfactory answer and happily left after buying a Cloud House from Hill.

Before leaving, he told Hill, ”Although I’m not too happy, those newcomers get along better with the Saral nobles. We don’t mind it, after all, under William’s rule, no one dares to be unfair. But the girls might take action, they tend to be a bit excessive, which might go a bit overboard, Mr. Hill, don’t be too surprised!”

Hill laughed and nodded, it was just right since he was quite bored.

But he remembered, back when the Snow Cloud Peak Alliance and Doomsday were fighting fiercely, wasn’t there someone cursing him as a feminizer or something?

This person, with no strong capital behind him, could still garner a lot of support—indeed there was some reason for that!

Although the fight was fierce in the front, Snow Cloud Peak had left the command of the battle to come back and deal with this matter.

And he seriously explained to Hill that the status of women in their country is high and should not be lowered just because they are in this world.

Nor should they think they are abnormal just because of another country’s chauvinist pigs.

Snow Cloud Peak very firmly hid his message within that explanation: a socially progressive country cannot possibly keep women at a low status.

Disdain for women only proves that your society is uncivilized.

Hill, on the other hand, didn’t care. Women of the Wood-Earth Element were never weak.

In his surroundings, there was no such talk of women having a lower status.

Equal pay for equal work—isn’t that very normal?

Even in this world, Melanie only appeared weak, but was not actually weak.

Hill really felt nothing.

Professionals are judged only by level, not by gender.

It is only within the nobles that women’s status might be a bit lower.

So what Snow Cloud Peak said, about the Saral nobles and the new arrivals getting along better, leaning towards them, Hill believed him.

They gave the women beautiful clothes, luxurious jewelry, and generous dowries, but never said, becoming professionals, how important it is for these girls.

The number of female knights is even fewer than female mages, and it’s not just because women can’t handle hardship.

Hill thought for a moment, then descended into the pit, having just noticed Fran flying past.

Finding the two men busy working, Hill took the opportunity when Fran paused to rest his hands and told them this matter.

”Do they think there are too many people from the Undead Tribe?” Adrian asked sharply.

Hill blinked.

Adrian scoffed, ”Which noble would be foolish enough to equate professionals with their own families used for marital alliances? This is fueling the fire between two conflicting groups of people!”

”His Majesty the King probably saw too that the Undead Tribe is too numerous, making the Saral nobles worry about their status not being secured.”

”No chance for war, what will they use to advance their titles?”

”Don’t worry, I won’t interfere. It has nothing to do with us mages.”

Hill, dejected, leaned against the wall. He was just a fool who understood nothing.

He now understood the meaning of another one of Snow Cloud Peak’s final words.

As long as Duke William is fair, they don’t mind competing with the Saral nobles, if you have the ability, come and snatch.

”He said, the girls might go a little overboard when they take action,” Hill murmured.

”The Undead Tribe’s commander named Snow Cloud Peak?” Adrian asked, ”That guy is fortunately quite rational, or else he’d ruin them, and those fools wouldn’t even know how they died. But really, he’s quite ruthless.”

Hill looked puzzled, what did he mean?
