Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 383: Chapter 182: Within the Rules, Anything is Possible

Hill looked at Adrian in confusion. Why say it’s a bit ruthless?

”He’s planning to hide in the background, at most giving those girls bad ideas. He doesn’t intend to let the men of the Undead Tribe take action, making things less restrained for them.”

”I reckon he’s considering that the nobles’ tolerance has reached its limit, and they’ll go to the king for help, not wanting to be stopped before they’ve had their fill.”

”Nobles, being played by women, isn’t it quite common? Do they have the nerve to complain?” Adrian looked at the bewildered Hill. ”You never think women are weak. That’s why you can’t feel the cruelty of this idea.”

”Aren’t nobles always playing the game where the ladies are always right?”

”Let’s hope they can always hold on and say ’yes’ to every request from these beautiful and charming ladies.”

”Didn’t they not want to follow the orders of the Undead girls?” Hill was still a bit confused.

”So, it’s not an order!” Adrian chuckled. ”According to noble logic, it’s the natural right of a high-status lady over a low-status gentleman.”

”Undead are all high-level professionals. Their status in Saral is naturally high.”

”Of course, they can directly ask the nobles to serve these ladies.”

”And if the ladies are dissatisfied with their service, they can rightfully scold or even lightly punish them to express their discontent.”

Hill glanced at Fran. His grandfather-in-law also didn’t seem to understand, his face blank. What was so vicious about this idea?

”The ’light punishment’ from an Undead girl.” Adrian reminded helplessly, ”No matter how beautiful and petite they look, they have god-crafted bodies! Even mages, their strength is much greater than ordinary grand knights! I don’t think they would be punishing a mage.”

Hill thought about it and laughed.

A fragile girl, full of grievances, scolding, a delicate hand lightly waving, the tall man in front of her probably would get to experience flying for a bit.

But Hill thought this might just be the weakest level. Undead girls should prefer using their strength to overpower these men.

”If they use their strength to crush them, it’s normal, but for nobles, offending the Undead means getting thrashed. Getting beaten by high-level professionals is nothing shameful. At most, another faction of the Undead would feel unhappy. What does that have to do with Saral nobles? What we want is for them not to get along.”

Hill was astonished, his eyes wide open.

So, this is why Snow Cloud Peak returned so anxiously?

He’s a singleton, someone who plays games all day as his career, yet he’s so exceptional, understanding such scheming?

”However, the Undead might come up with even more devious tricks.” Adrian pondered, ”Their thinking is more varied and peculiar. I was thinking from a rather orthodox perspective, though effective, it’s not quite dastardly enough.”

”What’s the point of saying all this?” Fran picked up his carving pen, ”Anyway, in a few days, we’ll see it. Fun’s bound to show up in time! Saral nobles, the Mage Association, druids, and the Undead, who knows what they’ll come up with. It doesn’t matter to us, as long as they don’t affect my city building.”

Hill glanced at Adrian again. What’s up again?

From Adrian’s slightly moving lips, he read the words ”Viola.”

It seems this lady visited Fran again; who knows what she’s done this time.

Although he didn’t want to say much, this lady always seemed to be able to provoke Fran’s temper, quite a talent.

Hill quickly took his leave.

Returning to the cloud ship, Hill flopped onto the bed, carefully pondering Snow Cloud Peak’s words.

This kid can directly communicate with Adrian, who comes from a family of great nobility.

Absolutely able to catch the hidden meanings in their words.

Hill couldn’t do it; he always only considered the surface meaning.

Here, he had already changed somewhat!

At least he could now understand the more shallow implications, just not the deeper ones.

For Snow Cloud Peak, everything he needed to say to Hill had already been said. Whether Hill could understand, wasn’t there still the shrewd Adrian!

Since Hill had promised his grandfather-in-law, he would surely speak up.

”Hill, what’s wrong?” Alice and Merkel came in together. ”Did someone bully you? Meow~ tear them to pieces~”

Merkel also extended his claws, indicating he was ready to act at any time.

”No, it’s just that I completely don’t understand what others are saying.” Hill admitted in frustration, ”I don’t get it at all.”

”Politics? Noble stuff?” Merkel keenly asked. ”You don’t think the Moon Elves or the Earth Bears would understand this, do you? The Moon Elves naturally lack that kind of wiring. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have been schemed to extinction.”

”The Earth Bears?”

”They haven’t been wiped out, but they’ve been plotted against for years. That’s why they plunged into the wilderness, refusing to come out.” Merkel showed a perplexing expression, ”Actually, even if you scheme against those bears, it’s useless. They’re thick-skinned and fortunate. If something happens, they’ll just break through all restraints and charge straight for the wilderness. But people always think, what if they succeed?”

Hill bit his cheek. Was this a dig at him?

Alice murmured, ”It sounds familiar?”

Hill picked Alice up, stroking her from head to tail, even scratching her chin.

Alice immediately began enjoying it, completely forgetting what she had wanted to say.

”Why doesn’t His Majesty the King intend to intervene?” Hill asked puzzled, wasn’t this internal consumption?

”Neither deities nor kings can interfere in the power struggles among their subordinates; that’s their natural right. Of course, if it goes too far, getting completely punished is also normal. It all depends on their self-control.” Merkel said softly, ”Besides, the King of Saral, he doesn’t even play the balance game, only brings out fairness and justice, already a great king.”

”He doesn’t have to, does he?” Hill lowered his voice too, ”He is a deity!”

”Deities, even those who’ve gone gray are like that. Aren’t they still set up by their subordinates?” Merkel curled his lips, ”Totally uncontrollable subordinates, what’s the difference between that and a wild duchess?”

Hill couldn’t understand but still nodded, ”Anyway, the king can manage even the Undead nearly perfectly. This shouldn’t be a problem. You know, those are like millions of duchesses.”

Merkel just thought for a moment, and a twist appeared on his dark face, genuinely saying, ”The King of Saral is really incredible!”

The incredible William was now facing his furious cousin.

Luckily, Spencer still had some sense, knowing to vent his anger in William’s study.

William quietly stepped back a bit.

”I’m already very busy!” Spencer was seething, ”No time to mediate their disputes!”

”Those people on both sides have been interacting for over a thousand years and still can’t understand each other. Besides fighting, what else can they do?” William spread his hands.

”I don’t care if the Undead are reduced to dust!” Spencer sneered, ”Can’t the nobles be disciplined? Why create chaos at a time like this?”

”Oh dear cousin, you’ve gotten used to seeing things from my side.” William showed an enthusiastic smile. ”Have you forgotten your identity as a military noble?”

Spencer was momentarily stunned. ”Do they want to fight too?”

”Isn’t it obvious!” William leaned on the desk, unconcerned, ”Saral will be powerful in the future; titles and positions will still be valuable.”

”But you clearly don’t plan to grant more lands!” Spencer asked puzzled. ”Even if they control a city, it’s meaningless, a king’s order would take it away.”

”That’s why you’re a good man!” William sighed. ”Maybe they don’t yet know how to gain actual control of a city, but they already know they can’t let the Undead take all the credit. Besides, the rank of titles still matters.”

Spencer pursed his lips, staying silent for a long time.

The Spencer family also climbed up through military achievements, logically, he couldn’t criticize these colleagues’ little schemes.

But seeing William’s hard work over the years, he genuinely found these people detestable.

At such a crucial time, why create chaos? If the Undead really got into internal strife, they wouldn’t care about Dwarves; they’d just fight among themselves first.

What if, during this time, the Dwarves figured out how to defeat the Undead?

Who would compensate William for his lost achievements?

”People always fight for their own interests, cousin.” William sighed. ”Their method, in fact, is quite aboveboard. They’re not the Spencer family, having the confidence to believe I won’t abandon them for the Undead.”

”But didn’t you say they’d eventually leave?” Spencer asked, unwilling to give up. He still wanted to suppress these people.

”In a hundred years, who would be who?” William ended all of Spencer’s doubts with one sentence.

Nobles considered family legacy but never sacrificed present interests for future opportunities.

What they have in hand is theirs; no one wants promises.

”But I can’t handle any more. Building so many cities at once, arranging for the Undead to carve defensive arrays, I really can’t manage.” Spencer said straightforwardly, ”Either you handle it yourself or find someone.”

William called for the captain of the guard, quickly giving him two treasures, his own long sword and the soul-splitting artifact from the God of Time and Space: ”Go and take over from Spencer. From now on, when conflicts arise between Saral nobles and Undead, arbitrate in my name.”

The captain of the guard blinked, surveying William’s expression.

”Just act with fairness and justice. No need to make your own decisions, directly activate the scales and let each side present their case. The scales will strictly judge according to Saral’s laws and morals.” William sneered, ”Let them see what it means to be omnipotent within the rules.”

Spencer knew, the ”them” William mentioned would definitely not be the Undead.
