Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 361: Chapter 160 Alice Ascends to Legendary

Hill had been mingling in the crowd for quite some time and found that these members of the Undead Tribe really put a lot of effort into their work.

Moreover, they were constantly excited, boasting endlessly.

After listening for so long, Hill realized he couldn’t hear anything related to games anymore; he could only understand that they were discussing the realism of this world.

And that was only because he could guess some of it from the conversations. Others, even a powerful Legendary Mage like Fran, probably only knew that this was another branch of the Undead Tribe.

They weren’t enemies with the original group, but they weren’t peaceful either—competition was strong.

Just like what Hill was seeing at that moment: a small part of those working below were not entirely convinced by the High-level Undead commanding from the air and looked somewhat displeased.

But most of them were just foolishly happy.

After all, this game was not originally open to them; it was after their persistent protests that they finally got to play it.

Before any dispute had arisen, most of them were still entirely focused on entertainment.

At most, they had a bit of a competitive spirit but were not yet confrontational towards the old players who had entered the game earlier.

However, Hill could feel that this batch of the Undead Tribe seemed to have stronger curiosity.

They would repeatedly inspect a stone or point and whisper about those wearing Knight Armor, like Spencer and his companions.

Perhaps because they held notions of nobility in higher regard?

Some of them had already started to tally the crests on the nobles’ armor.

Hill shook his head and turned to leave.

As long as these foreign players didn’t advance to Magister status, their primary goal was still to level up, and he estimated they wouldn’t cause any trouble for the time being.

Not long after Hill returned to the Cloud House, he received a message from List, asking him to hurry back.

Alice seemed to be advancing.

He quickly packed up the Cloud Ship and flew towards the Teleportation Array.

Why so sudden, Hill wondered—it should still be half a year away according to his calculations?

Emerging from the Teleportation Array, Hill was surprised to see the number of Undead people in his town had increased so significantly.

But he had no time to inquire about it at the moment, rushing back to the Magic Tower as fast as he could.

Outside the Magic Tower, the sky was filled with ever-changing clouds.

Hill looked around but couldn’t tell what Law Alice was advancing to.

The Spirit of Nature was completely unpredictable.

An animal that might typically use its claws could, upon reaching Legendary status, suddenly become part of the Magic System.

It all depended on what they themselves wanted.

Hill didn’t know what Alice wanted.

He swiftly descended from the balcony to the floor below.

Merkel was already crouching outside Alice’s door and greeted Hill when he saw him.

”Why did she suddenly start advancing?” Hill asked, puzzled.

Although the natural aura in his domain was now dense, it had stabilized, and Hill knew exactly how much energy Alice could absorb each day; it should have taken half a year, right?

”You should be asking yourself that, Hill.” Merkel replied helplessly, ”The Natural Consciousness has been dormant; it wouldn’t just reward you for no reason. Look at the Elementals in your valley—their strength has increased a lot.”

”I just found some seeds that purify the earth and incidentally purified the land near the Central City.” Hill said with some astonishment, ”It’s this flower seed, perhaps one that’s been extinct.”

”Is the effect very noticeable?”

”Yes, Sunflowers, their purification ability is extremely strong.”

Merkel’s lips curled up slightly, ”Then it must be significantly beneficial to the earth, a very big benefit.”

Could the ability to purify the land help the Goddess of the Earth revive?

Hill hadn’t expected his speculation to perhaps be true; so were the Dwarves indeed trying to pollute the earth to prevent the awakening of the Goddess of the Earth?

But without the Goddess’s power, this planet would remain broken, which wouldn’t benefit them either, would it?

Shaking his head, he hoped to find answers soon.

The Dwarves must have been certain of something to act this way.

Hill glanced at the door and asked Merkel, ”Alice advancing so early won’t cause any problems, right?”

”The Spirit of Nature never fails!” Merkel answered definitively, ”What I’m worried about is what kind of ability she will end up with.”

”The outside is filled with changing clouds.”

”She is a cat, after all—capriciousness is normal. Maybe she hasn’t even figured out what she wants.”

”Then how can she advance to Legendary?” Hill startled, ”Doesn’t she need to connect with a Law?”

”She’s not a Mage who needs to understand which Law she’s connecting with during her advancement, is she? I didn’t know at the time either! Magical Beasts don’t need to! Spirits of Nature need it even less!” Merkel stood up and walked a circle around the living room.

”Alice likes being a cat and despises hard work; she’s lazy and playful,” Merkel slowly said, ”What she wants must be a hidden ability.”

To avoid Hill’s and Merkel’s concern for her safety, constantly urging her to train?

If she could stay hidden, no one could find her, then she wouldn’t have to train so hard, would she?

Hill quickly grasped the implication in Merkel’s words, after all, he knew this little cat very well.

However, Hill really didn’t know that for Magical Beasts to advance to Legendary, it all depended on luck?

Whichever Law they encountered, that would be it?

Indeed, as they advance through their bloodline, they cannot escape the Laws contained in their lineage.

If Hill hadn’t obtained the Wind Element Laws and broken free from the binds of his lineage, he could only have become a Legendary Mage of the Earth Wood Water triad, and maybe he would have only been able to focus on Earth, becoming a Magician of a single Law.

Fran had previously concluded that it would take Hill a very long time to advance to Legendary for this very reason. He knew that Hill was a person with aspirations, who wouldn’t let his bloodline drag him down to become purely an Earth Legendary.

But to slowly complement the other two elements, the time required would be extremely long.

Who would have thought that Hill’s opportunities would be so good, and he even seized them every time.

As for the Spirits of Nature, as long as it’s the Natural System Law they can choose any.

Even the Laws of Sun and Moon aren’t a problem, for they have always been the darlings of Heaven and Earth, otherwise, there wouldn’t have been a God of Deer who wanted to reach for the moon.

Generally, when a deer reaches Demigod, very few dare to kill it, precisely because many Spirits of Nature choose the form of a deer.

The consequences of such a killing, instantly dropping into the Evil Faction of the Goddess of the Hunt, are standing bloody right in front of us!

Spirits of Nature, like Alice who choose a cat form to avoid trouble, are truly rare.

Spirits of Nature are just carefree, not lazy.

I really don’t know what kind of soul makes up Alice.

Most Spirits of Nature are the cherished children of Nature, transformed from the souls after they died.

Though they are born from Nature and don’t know their past, they have all been blessed by Nature and until death, were pure and innocent.

Therefore, the emergence of Spirits of Nature is very random; no one knows when or where one might suddenly pop up.

Hill’s mind was a jumbled mess, and Alice, that troublesome creature, seemed to still be picking a Law.

Merkel stretched out his paw, his claws snapping out one by one and then retracting back in.

Hill looked down and nearly burst into laughter, but quickly stifled it.

I had no idea if Merkel was thinking about various methods of fancy cat-beating in his mind.

Though not much time had really passed, both Hill and Merkel felt it was extremely long.

Thankfully, it seemed Alice had finally made up her mind.

In the interwoven gold and silver light, the sky rang with the meowing of cats.

Neither the inheritable Merkel nor Hill, who understood the various Laws well, could tell what kind of Law it was.

Both man and beast could only continue waiting for Alice to finish her advancement.

The door in front of them was pushed open with a bang.

The beautiful white cat walked out swaying its tail proudly, stepping with light dance-like footsteps.

Seeing Hill and Merkel waiting outside for her, Alice meowed happily, ”I’m Legendary now~ No need to be locked up anymore~”

Merkel became instantly aggravated.

Hill quickly stopped him, ”Alice has just advanced, she definitely wants to feel proud for a bit, don’t fuss over it.”

He looked at the elegant white cat sitting before him, its tail sweeping back and forth on the carpet, ”Alice, I won’t ask about the Law you obtained. But tell us about any abilities you have.”

”Meow~” Alice’s tail slapped the floor, ”I can hide my form in the light~ Whether it’s sunlight or moonlight, as long as there’s a bit of light, I can make sure no one sees me~”

”What if there’s no light?” Merkel asked coldly.

Alice shook her head proudly, and the color of her fur slowly changed as she turned into a little black cat.

”Is it just a change in color, or can you actually blend into the darkness?” Hill asked.

”Black Alice is invisible in the darkness,” Alice said, tilting her head, ”It’s probably what Hill said about blending into the darkness, right?”

Although she doesn’t have much attack power, it’s fine as long as Alice is safe.

But then it suddenly occurred to Hill, ”You absolutely cannot go snooping or eavesdropping, Alice!”

”Meow~ Why not?” Alice was clearly thinking about going out for some excitement, ”No one will discover me~”

”Because it’s impolite,” Hill said seriously, ”Alice, you can’t become a bad child who spies on others!”

Alice lay down dejectedly, ”I could help Hill gather information~ It’d be very useful~ Alice!”

”I have no secrets that I want to know about,” Hill firmly refused, ”Gossiping and prying into others’ secrets are not the same, Alice.”

Suddenly, a golden glow flickered beside Hill.

The figure of the Sun God appeared.

Hill was startled.

”I was just curious why someone had suddenly touched the Light System Law,” the golden figure of the Sun God said curiously, glancing at Alice, ”You placed that painting in the Magic Tower, eh? No wonder this cat, uh? A Spirit of Nature! Then it’s no surprise that she touched both sunlight and moonlight.”

Hill hastily expressed his thanks.

”No need, it’s what you deserve,” the Sun God suddenly reached out and patted Hill’s head, ”Such a good child, the World Will is very thankful to you.”

The deity dispersed the light, leaving a faint, distant voice in the air: ”I also have to thank you for the Sunflower matter, I never thought I would see it again!”

Hill felt warm all over. The Sun God had purged all impurities from his body.
