Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 355: Chapter 154: Hill Becomes the Timely Rain

Hill understood after hearing Fran’s words.

This archmage, who insisted on descending to explore the demon’s den, definitely had some connection with demons.

He was probably worried about his faction leaving traces behind there, which was why he had to go down and check.

Moreover, a normal archmage, even if they spent a longer time below, wouldn’t just turn into a demon so directly.

If it were that easy, why would demons bother attacking human cities? Just besiege them for two days and they would transform into the same kind?

It was indeed foolish, not even knowing one’s own limit of tolerance to the demon’s power.

Even though the Mage Association seemed chaotically terrible, with elves and dwarves involved, not to mention those who cooperated with demons.

But neither William nor Fran paid much attention to it.

Hill thought about it and then understood.

Because those at the very top, the legendary lawkeepers, had no issues.

As for this world, to become a legendary lawkeeper, one must pass the trial of the World Will.

Those who gained power or life by unorthodox means had little impact on the world.

To those legendary lawkeepers, the reason they don’t care is simply that they consider the disturbances of those below as minor nuisances that could be dismissed with a slap.

Besides, mages probably don’t care at all about having someone dealing with demons next to them.

The only ones who truly wouldn’t want demons to appear are the deities.

The reason humans fear and hate demons is more because they can’t defeat them; encountering them means facing death.

From their lives to their souls, everything is food in the mouths of demons.

But if they could suppress demons, many people would want to benefit from them.

Humans have always been good at taking chances and courting death.

Hill suspected that the reason that legendary water system sorcerer wanted to covet a divine position respected by all water sorcerers was that he was somewhat involved with them.

Fran took Hill descending toward the bottom of the large pit.

Hill frowned; even that territory near the Black and White Path, heavily besieged by demons, wasn’t as disgusting as this.

How many people had these beings killed over thousands of years?

”Nobles no longer say they can’t survive without slaves,” Fran sighed, ”Saral’s kingdom is still relatively young, and there’s a large demand for people. Even if some nobles are corrupt, they haven’t gone as far as treating slaves like animals.

Moreover, many nobles feel that the slaves they own are more trustworthy.

That’s why there are slaves who would betray His Majesty the King for their former masters.

If it weren’t for seeing the swirling bones beneath this blood pool, they would still believe that slaves lived better lives than commoners, questioning why there was a need to free them.

Even in the Spencer family, there are those who are unwilling.”

The Undead had excavated this area nearly to three thousand meters.

Yet, the turned soil still contained terrible impurities.

”They must exchange it with deeper soil each time the land reaches its tolerance limit, right?” Hill asked.

”Do you sense that?” Fran asked, ”His Majesty the King mentioned just that after a glance. I hardly feel it.”

”The density of impurities is layered,” Hill said, his expression grim. ”Very regular.”

”Can you sense that clearly?” Fran stopped in his tracks, ”If it’s unbearable, we can go back. We can study it from above.”

Hill shook his head: ”We’re almost there. I think we’re near the bottom.”

The excavated soil by the Undead, now carried a less pungent smell of impurities.

Hill saw the Undead moving up and down on a Levitation Disc engraved with a Purification Array, carrying bags full of soil. The Undead would quickly start running once they stepped out of the disc’s range.

Their murmurs suggested that this place caused them to continuously lose blood.

Restoration was only possible within the range of the Purification Array.

Thus, even the Undead knew they were nearing the bottom because they were arguing about the decreasing speed of blood loss.

After circling the bottom, Fran quickly took Hill and fled.

Upon returning to the Magic Tower, Fran asked Hill, ”Can we accelerate the purification? I feel the ley lines are becoming contaminated, just digging up the soil isn’t helping.”

Hill nodded, ”It’s still okay; the earth naturally purifies itself. The Ley line’s effect is only because the purification isn’t fast enough. Just purify everything above and it’s fine.”

”Do the elves and dwarves know that Central City is turning into Demon City?” Fran asked, looking down at the busy Adrian, ”Why don’t they intervene?”

”The dwarves don’t know. But as for the elves, it’s possible they want to play the savior,” Hill thought and said.

”What do you mean?”

”Even if everyone here transformed into demons, what would it matter? They would only attack the human kingdom,” Hill said slowly, ”When humans are overwhelmingly defeated, and scarcely one in ten survive, if the Elf Lord appears with the elves to save the world, then the world will truly belong to elves after that.”

Hill didn’t know if his guess was right, but since the Elven God King was still under Coron’s protection, he couldn’t be deeply colluding with the Abyss.

Merely observing the tragic future of humanity indifferently, for elves, was not considered a sin.

Fran, knowing Hill’s intuition was usually accurate, nodded with a grim expression.

”I’m now preparing the castle design plans,” he said, looking down at the documents in hand, ”Since we’ve dug this deep, I’ll also make use of this hole. Go think of a way to purify it!”

Hill nodded and left.

He floated in the air, thought for a long while, and decided to first start planting sunflowers.

The large house for storing soil was right next to the giant pit.

When Hill arrived, he was surprised to find that it wasn’t a finished Alchemy Hut.

Instead, it was a rough outline of a cottage that William had crudely transformed into a temporary trash bin using divine power.

He was probably planning to use the power of the sun to purify the soil, thus he had specially made an open-air box house.

Essentially, just crudely ripping off the roof.

This house would probably last a few decades under the maintenance of William’s Divine Power.

It’s actually quite suitable for the Sunflower.

Hill thought for a moment and approached Adrian, ”Uncle Adrian, what are the plans for that house filled with soil?”

”His Majesty the King intends to wait until the purification of the soil is complete and then find a Legendary Earth Mage to directly build a mountain.”

Hill nodded, ”Remember to tell him to come directly to me.”

Adrian promised in surprise, ”It’s best if you’re willing to do it, saves the trouble of figuring out whom to find.”

Hill flew back to the soil box and sowed the seeds of the Sunflower as widely as possible.

Then he watched in amazement as the green sprouts burst out almost instantly.

They grew too quickly.

Hill held the seed pouch and spaced out for a while, then lifted it up to look again.

Had he underestimated the power of a Demi-God Artifact optimized seed?

The seeds of the Sunflower had been optimized in this pouch for tens of thousands of years.

He decided to first observe their rate of growth.

Two hours later, the Sunflowers, which grew to about 2 meters, bloomed.

The golden flowers turned slightly towards the direction of the sun and then exploded with a bang.

Hill carefully examined each flower and saw that it exploded to release not only a hundred seeds.

Fortunately, he had sown these hundred flowers quite far apart.

Even the second generation of Sunflowers grew rapidly.

Hill felt that he no longer had to worry about these soils.

He only needed to consider what to do underground.

He released a Cloud House and entered with the seed pouch.

Lately, he had been fond of the Cloud Houses inhabited by the Wind Elements, so he had modified quite a few to float in the air.

The house he released was not his usual Forest Cloud House.

It was a small, 2-story house surrounded by white clouds, shaped like a cloud itself.

Very beautiful and cute, completely different from his usual forest style.

This was a new map, surely with many new materials.

Hill was worried that the Undead Tribe would get the materials and sell them to William for military exploits first.

Therefore, he came here to attract attention.

The Undead Tribe has nearly one hundred million girls!

Rabbits plus the Cloud House should be enough for Hill to attract most of the Undead Tribe.

The Cloud House didn’t need an enlarged interior space, so its construction was relatively simple.

List could already assemble them in Hill’s Alchemy Workshop inside Hill’s Magic Tower.

Hill needed only to inscribe the Magic Circle Diagrams.

Whenever he had time, he would take out the floorboard to inscribe it, managing to produce several dozen pieces in a day.

The price of this Cloud House was quite good, and its construction was not much harder than that of an Alchemy Carriage.

The timing was just right.

The lower-level Undead couldn’t afford it yet.

And the higher-level ones had almost spent all their money preparing for the war.

To have money to buy things, they would definitely complete tasks frenetically and search everywhere for materials.

Hill’s Crystal Stone stock was plentiful.

He believed that it wouldn’t be long before people started coming to his territory to trade materials!

Even if not for the rabbits, to buy the houses, they would have to hurry!

However, Hill’s main task now was still to meticulously examine the subterranean creatures in the seed pouch to see if there was anything similar to the Sunflower.

He nestled inside the little house, motionless.

The Undead Tribe, noticing his previous flower planting activity, called friends to watch.

In just a short while, the soil box looked as if five grasslands had been laid in the center and corners, small though they were, the effect was quite striking.

Occasionally, there was a flash of golden light.

The Undead Tribe flew over the box, trying to capture the moment when tens of thousands of golden flowers bloomed.

William, disturbed by the Undead Tribe, also flew out.

He knew Hill wouldn’t plant flowers for no reason.

Indeed, although that dark, terrifying, evil aura was still strong, its concentration had indeed dropped a bit.

Before the sunset, the Sunflowers burst into their last explosion of the day.

The sight of tens of thousands of golden flowers blooming and instantly exploding into a burst of golden light made the Undead Tribe exclaim in amazement.

What William noticed, however, was the strong purification aura when the flowers bloomed.

And the seeds, after landing on the soil, germinated and grew very quickly.

Though he didn’t know when they would bloom and seed again, these plants were extremely practical for absorbing filth for growth and purifying when they bloomed.

He quickly issued a task for the Undead Tribe to collect the seeds and plant them in vacant places.

Hill really was a good kid; they might as well call him the timely rain!
