Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 369: Chapter 168 Hill is still a minor!

Hill didn’t know what deeper meaning Viola’s blatant appearance here held.

As long as he knew this lady wouldn’t get killed in the camp, Hill had nothing to worry about.

He only hoped that if this lady was going to cause trouble, she’d stay far away.

Hill leaned by the window, waiting for the elves to arrive for their collective excavation.

Alice, seeing Hill’s curious behavior, almost instantly climbed to the highest point of the Cloud House.

Merkel quietly appeared at the front of the Cloud Ship.

Although he could climb up too, Merkel was still a very face-conscious leopard. He needed to satisfy his curiosity but had to do it with a bit more dignity.

Hill didn’t feel there was anything wrong with his nosiness. Even a Saint would celebrate with a drink or two knowing their enemy was disgraced.

Besides, he was still a kid.

After learning that half-elves reached adulthood at eighty, Hill had counted on his fingers and realized that with both his previous and current life added up, he was still a minor.

So, he indulged himself even more.

Hill didn’t have the nerve to calculate his age using the Earth Bear’s years!

That would mean being a cub for hundreds of years.

In some ways, Hill knew his mindset didn’t quite match that of a long-time adult.

But if the Earth Bear’s only influence on him was on his mindset and temperament, he didn’t see anything wrong with that.

In fact, he was delighted. To forever remain a boy was originally just a beautiful wish; now he could achieve it with ease.

Maybe this was the unique carefreeness of long-lived species?

Otherwise, with a long life, anyone who was overly burdened by worries and remembered everything would live too tiring and annoying a life.

Hill suddenly frowned. A big figure had approached the woods.

The elves were waiting for their Demigod to arrive.

Hill smirked. Elves really put too much effort into these shows.

William was impossible to attack them while they purified the demonized land. Even magical beasts would remain silent, watching coldly.

Those wolves were indeed not good things. They had never shown up, and Hill thought they weren’t here!

It turned out they sensed the problem with the land but actually didn’t notify William.

As soon as William’s side finished digging, a large number of wolf packs walked along the edge of the pit to Central City.

They didn’t approach the Ring Mountain where the Undead Tribe was because the earth there still had problems.

They just gazed from a distance, lying in groups on the side leading to the Dwarf Kingdom.

They hated the elves the most, yet no wolf charged over this time. Even magical beasts of the Moon System, worshippers of the Goddess of the Silvermoon, would never foolishly interrupt a good thing for the earth.

Though they understood this, they still needed a demigod who could stand against William by their side to do things. What were they thinking?

Did life need a sense of ceremony?

After the arrival of the demigod, teams of elves finally started to emerge.

Obviously, they were all Rangers, the only ones who still had the strength to dig.

They had agile bodies, wore close-fitting green soft armor, and regardless of gender, they all looked as bright as spring flowers, rather pleasing to the eye.

Although their chests were rather flat, their waists were slender!

Hill could already hear the loud whistling from the Undead Tribe’s side.

Too bad, these dazzling beauties, each holding an iron shovel, were laughable.

Hill couldn’t hold back his laughter. This shovel design looked quite modern, probably learned from the Undead Tribe while spying on them a few days ago.

This world used to popularize a short shovel, a mining tool brought by the dwarves.

Probably because those who dug mines were the most neglected slaves or bottom-tier civilians, no one considered that with human height, one had to hunch over to use that short shovel, requiring a redesign.

Until William’s appearance.

When William discovered the need to dig, he had the Alchemy factory of Saral make a large number of shovels and sent them over. It turned out that the elves were smart enough to learn this.

For their tall figures, shovels were much more suitable.

What took the Undead Tribe a few hours to complete took these elves a full day.

Even so, their progress was only one-seventh of the Undead Tribe’s work.

The elves left countless disdainful glances towards the wall where the Undead Tribe lay, watching them dig.

Though they always looked down on humans, they wouldn’t so openly despise the Undead Tribe. Even without knowing the world of the Undead Tribe, elemental bodies weren’t something any soul could command.

That required some knowledge and a very active brain.

Even elves needed to be high-level professionals to use elemental bodies.

Elves’ eyelids may be high, but they never looked down on those stronger than themselves.

They just hated those who came to watch them work.

Working under the gaze of thousands of eyes made these elves extra cautious, not wanting to show any undignified posture.

So, thousands of people dug only a short distance and at such a slow pace.

Hill chuckled, thinking that they might as well dig more openly, which would look better.

The reason the Undead Tribe could watch a group of elves dig for such a long time without leaving to play was these awkward movements.

Hill could even hear them searching for the stupidest movement among them.

When the elves nearly finished digging, they realized something.

The demon-corrupted land stopped about five hundred meters before the forest, seemingly planning to bypass it.

But because they discovered it early, the turn was just starting. Hill watched, amused, as the elves suddenly stood up and cursed when they reached that point.

To those who didn’t understand the elven language, it might sound like they were singing with their nine rhythms and eighteen twists.

But Hill could understand and delightedly learned many elven curses.

He wasn’t great at cursing. Sometimes it was really hard, especially when he needed to express extreme anger.

Sarcasm and ridicule could show some fury, but nothing was as satisfying as outright cursing!

Next time that half-elf Legendary from the Mage Association angered him, he’d use those words!

Hill watched in surprise as they built a short earthen wall in front of the grove.

The Undead Tribe was also debating what the elves intended with that useless thing.

A mere small knight with a light jump could get over it.

Then one elf took out a bag of seeds and planted them on the wall.

With a glance, Hill knew those were sunflower seeds.

Wonder when these elves gathered those.

But the elves didn’t plan for the wall to serve any real purpose, merely mimicking the humans by building one.

Amid the humans’ astonished exclamations, the elves carefully counted the seeds.

Though they didn’t have many sunflower seeds, they tried their best to plant one every few hundred meters.

Probably wanting to create a flower wall as a sign of the complete closure of the Forest of the Elves?

Night fell, and the sunflowers began to sprout and grow.

Meanwhile, in places unseen by the elves, the flowerbed behind the Undead Tribe, who had enjoyed a day of watching the elves dig, had already grown three rounds of sunflowers, filling most places.

William hadn’t made any moves! Hill thought with some regret. He had expected William to give the elves a lesson.

What a pity.

Some things Hill didn’t notice were very important to Fran and Adrian.

”Teacher, about 50,000 elves came out in total, 10,000 of them half-elves. Those half-elves worked the hardest,” Adrian said with a slight smile, ”but it seems not many elves thought they did great.”

”It’s not about whether they did well or not. It’s that the elves’ eyes don’t even see these half-elves.” Fran turned and said, ”If this is the daily life of half-elves, then Viola’s idea might actually be possible.”

”Indeed, not everyone wants to live a life bowing and scraping for others’ charity,” Adrian nodded.

”Are they just leaving like this?” Adrian asked in surprise, gripping the window, ”They didn’t purify themselves!”

”Maybe their priests didn’t come out. They might need to arrange it after returning,” Fran said coldly, ”Elven priests have high status. They wouldn’t come out for adventure.”

”They wouldn’t deny purification, would they?” Adrian mumbled.

The half-elf team was the last to return to the woods, their steps heavy.

”Actually, their lives aren’t so hard,” Fran smiled, ”Half-elves who can enter the Forest of the Elves wouldn’t face much oppression. Elves don’t have the concept of bullying them.

Elves are naturally free and romantic, and having children from other races is normal.

They’re all their own children. Why would they bully them for no reason?

Considering the elves’ lifespan, no one knows if they might have a half-elf child pop up someday. If you bully others’ children now, your own future child will suffer.

Even if elves’ feelings fade fast, they wouldn’t harm their children like this.

But for elves who value bloodline heavily, in critical moments, these half-elves naturally have to stand behind pureblood elves.

Like now, they get everything, but the last to receive it.

Ordinary half-elves might just live through it. No one bullies them. They just have to yield to the pureblood elves.

But the proud ones can’t endure it.

They can’t accept being forced to step back despite being strong, just because of their bloodline.”

Adrian looked up thoughtfully, ”If it were me, I couldn’t stand it either. Why should I?”

Fran smiled, saying that ”why should I” was easy to say but difficult to do.

”Enough about that. How long can you stare at these blueprints?” Fran lifted Adrian, making him study the plans, ”Even a little helps with spiritual power growth.”

Adrian glanced at the blueprints with a miserable expression, envying Hill who didn’t have to stay in the Magic Tower.
