Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 1218: Chapter 663: Qingmu Award Nomination

What Zhou Lan said was reasonable, but Zhou Yun hesitated a bit.

Zhou Yun herself didn’t want to be overly concerned about remuneration and bonuses.

Especially using the payment and bonuses from the other side to decide whether to act in a film; Zhou Yun was quite unwilling to do this.

But from another perspective, Zhou Lan’s insistence wasn’t wrong either.

If Zhou Yun is worth such a high return, why settle for the current price?

Zhou Yun thought for a moment and said to Zhou Lan, ”Sister Lan, if Yao Yuanfeng really isn’t willing, then forget it, but don’t let this matter decide whether I act in this movie. I don’t want this to affect my collaboration with Wen Bing, you know how much I like working with him on films.”

When Zhou Lan heard Zhou Yun say this, she said, ”Don’t worry, Yao Yuanfeng is no fool. He will definitely relent in the end. The overseas distribution rights for ’Two Tigers’ are selling well, and everyone is watching because of you. If you don’t act, how much in earnings is he going to lose?”

Yao Yuanfeng is not a very generous film company owner.

This fact is known to many in the industry.

If it weren’t so, Zhou Yun wouldn’t have cooperated with New Shield on ’Life’ and ’Two Tigers’, both of which had low remuneration.

The former was originally low-cost investment; the latter was because Zhou Yun herself had a cameo role, not the lead.

But both films helped New Shield earn a lot of money.

What bothers Zhou Lan is ’Two Tigers’, as New Shield did not pay the lead actress remuneration, yet during the film’s promotion, they heavily advertised Zhou Yun as the lead actress, drawing many people to cinemas to watch the film, essentially freeloading off Zhou Yun’s appeal.

Therefore, Zhou Lan wanted to recoup the loss from ’Two Tigers’ second sequel.

However, Yao Yuanfeng’s thinking was that New Shield had already paid Zhou Yun a high remuneration and bonus ratio for ’Female Assassin’. For ’Two Tigers’ second sequel, New Shield definitely had to continue paying Liang Yuanpu a 5% box office bonus. If they had to also pay Zhou Yun the same bonus ratio, then New Shield would lose significantly in profits on this film.

The most crucial point is that Yao Yuanfeng does not want to create an impression that whenever Zhou Yun is called to act in films, Zhou Yun must be paid a bonus.

According to Yao Yuanfeng’s plan, he has many projects lined up with Zhou Yun. If such an impression is formed, it would mean that every film collaborated between New Shield and Zhou Yun in the future would require paying her a bonus anytime she starred.

To this end, Yao Yuanfeng arranged for his publicity department to start downplaying Zhou Yun’s impact on the film’s box office results.

He wants Zhou Yun and Zhou Lan to understand that Zhou Yun is merely a cameo role in this film, and its good box office result is mainly because of Liang Yuanpu’s starring role.

Zhou Lan saw Yao Yuanfeng’s actions and snorted angrily twice.

She called Zhou Yun and said, ”Xiao Yun, you see, you’re willing to sacrifice some interests for Director Wen Bing, yet he’s suppressing you at this time.”

Zhou Yun asked, ”Why would he do this so early?”

”To remind us that we don’t have the qualification to discuss bonuses for ’Two Tigers’ second sequel,” Zhou Lan said, ”The box office success of ’Two Tigers’ is due to Liang Yuanpu, it has nothing to do with us.”

Hearing this, Zhou Yun frowned.

”Sister Lan, do you think that’s what he means?”

”Xiao Yun, let’s put it this way, if he hadn’t played us during the promotion of ’Two Tigers’, I wouldn’t be this angry. You initially acted in ’Two Tigers’ as a cameo, right? He only paid cameo remuneration, correct? But look at how they promoted ’Two Tigers’. Did he promote you as a cameo actor? Their press releases about Liang Yuanpu had fewer mentions than yours; if not for their press making people mistakenly think you were the lead, your fans wouldn’t have been disappointed.” Zhou Lan said.

Zhou Yun was silent.

What Zhou Lan said made her realize why Zhou Lan was so angry.

Actually, to be honest, Zhou Yun was also quite unhappy with Yao Yuanfeng’s approach. If the box office success of ’Two Tigers’ has nothing to do with her, then why was she the main promotion point before its release and just as it was released? Zhou Yun is not a naive person who doesn’t understand these tricks. She knows a thing or two about how a film is distributed and promoted. Therefore, Zhou Yun doesn’t think Zhou Lan is deliberately distorting Yao Yuanfeng’s intentions.
