Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 300: Chapter 262: The Rise: 98

Wang Jing has qualities that Zhou Yun lacks.

She has a natural affinity that allows her to easily bond with people around her.

Zhou Yun knows that she herself is somewhat distant. It’s not that she looks down on anyone, it’s just her personality that makes it hard for her to joke naturally with people she is not familiar with.

Once, Zhou Yun also pondered why she developed such a personality? She thought, personality can’t be entirely innate, apart from genetics, there must be some influence from the external environment.

It took her several years to realize one thing, delving into the historical cause of her personality only brings trouble and cannot truly eradicate the problem.

Even if the cause is discovered, what can be done? It is already imprinted in her body, spirit, and subconscious. Can digging up roots eradicate it?

Zhou Yun realized, for some things that have grown into her flesh and blood, they are not good, but she can only accept them. If they cannot be changed, she must learn to coexist peacefully with them.

Everyone is different, rather than imitating others awkwardly, it’s better to be a bit indifferent and be oneself.

Zhou Yun has accepted her personality of not being easily approachable, but seeing someone like Wang Jing, she still feels a lack of confidence and envies her.

Ninety-nine percent of people in the world probably wish to be liked.

After dinner, Zhou Yun got up and went to the drink station to make some plum juice.

She had just eaten spicy bullfrog.

She walked over and picked up a cup.

Su Yan suddenly came up to her and said, ”You really are daring for nurturing new talent when you’re still rising. Aren’t you afraid that one day this girl will be more famous and popular than you?”

Zhou Yun looked at her in surprise.

Su Yan continued, ”Don’t look at me like that, haven’t you ever worried?”

”Is the industry only big enough for one actress?” Zhou Yun retorted.

Su Yan sneered, ”Of course there’s room for as many newcomers like her as possible, but how many actresses can reach our position? There are only so many productions each year, only a few are S+ big productions, everyone is vying for them, aren’t you afraid that one day, she will be the one producers prefer over you?”

”If you came to sow discord, I advise you not to bother.”

Zhou Yun made her plum juice and was about to leave.

”You took my endorsement, and now you’re even bolder. I’ll just wait and see you reap what you sow,” Su Yan said scornfully.

Zhou Yun gave her a look of pity.

This look infuriated Su Yan.

”Why are you even talking to her if you don’t like her?” Wei Chen came over and asked.

Su Yan said, ”I just want to see if she is feigning innocence or really foolish.”

”If your tongue could be gentler even by a fraction, maybe you’d have better relations,” Wei Chen spoke, ”Why do you have to make her your enemy? Is it really necessary?”

”She took my endorsement, should I just suffer in silence?” Su Yan said angrily, ”What did those advertisers say? That she is the star of tomorrow? What am I then, a flower that’s about to wilt? These wind-vane capitalists, just you wait, I won’t go out of style that easily! Wei Ru Xue was able to make a stunning comeback with ’Spring Cold’, what am I lacking compared to her?”

Wei Chen said nothing.

Because those in the know are aware, Su Yan and actresses like Lew Qingqing from her generation, shining brightly in their careers, are facing an unavoidable crisis.

They are products of the era of online traffic, they are popular, have numerous fans, and the dramas they act in have high ratings and views, but correspondingly, their acting and the quality of their works are highly controversial. Despite being famous for many years, let alone winning a meaningful award, they hardly get nominated.

Su Yan compares herself to Wei Ru Xue, but Wei Ru Xue is different.

In terms of traffic and data, Wei Ru Xue might not even compare to her. But in terms of carrying a drama’s success and reputation, Wei Ru Xue far surpasses her. Wei Ru Xue hasn’t won major awards, but has been nominated several times, has good industry reputation, and audience affinity.

This time for ’Spring Cold’, there’s a strong call for her to win an award, and she might very well take home the Best Actress trophy.

Su Yan is still far behind.

So, Su Yan and her peers actually all face a huge crisis - the risk of being eliminated.

No flower blooms for a hundred days.

Popularity cannot last a lifetime.

When did advertisers’ attitude toward Zhou Yun change?

It actually started changing from when the movie ’Life’ was nominated for the Venice International Film Festival.

An actress, popular, trending, with fans, with a trending predisposition, and now, she also has a promising career.

Such an actress, of course, advertisers will favor and invest in ahead of time. Especially since this actress is also very beautiful, with a face that incredibly appeals to the audience.

Jinling Jewelry chose Zhou Yun, no longer renewing with Su Yan, not merely because Zhou Yun is more popular now or because Zhou Yun’s fans have stronger purchasing power. It’s not that simple. Nowadays, many fans like to compare who has higher purchasing power, but they all overlook one thing - for any brand, the general public is always the largest market, no brand can survive solely on a celebrity’s fans. Hence, between Zhou Yun and Su Yan, whose image is better, whose future looks brighter, these are the things a brand considers more when making decisions. The spokesperson’s image is closely related to the brand’s image, an actress with disputed acting skills, how would her image impact the brand when associated with it?

Su Yan complained non-stop, Wei Chen just nodded and laughed, not continuing the topic.

There’s no need for more words, why offend someone?

If you are unhappy and complain, I might just agree with you a bit, but don’t expect me to be sincere. We are in the same industry, we meet often, and it’s enough to just get along on the surface.

Su Yan sensed Wei Chen’s perfunctory attitude. But she wouldn’t think deeper about it, she would just fuel her anger considering Wei Chen as one of those superficial men who fancy young girls. It’s all Zhou Yun’s fault, just because she’s a bit younger? All you men can’t even walk when you see her? Not just you men, but others too, producers, advertisers, you all are fickle! She hasn’t been in the industry long, and I’ve been working hard in this field for so many years, why don’t you have more faith in me? Why don’t you value me more? I’m far more experienced than her! I’m the actress who has stood the test of time!
