Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 278: Chapter 240: Rising Phase: 76

Zhou Yun walked out of President He’s office.

”Sister Xiao Yun, did it go smoothly?” Zheng Xiaojue asked.

”Mhm, we settled it,” Zhou Yun nodded.

This matter could only be discussed by her. Zhou Lan’s presence would have been of no use.

Zheng Xiaojue sighed in relief and said, ”That’s great.”

After exiting the elevator and returning to the car, Zheng Xiaojue looked around to ensure that no one was nearby before whispering, ”Sister Xiao Yun, while I was waiting outside for you, I heard others discussing President He’s drug use.”

”Mhm?” Zhou Yun asked in confusion, ”What did you hear?”

A sly smile crossed Zheng Xiaojue’s face as she said, ”They mentioned that it was all orchestrated by President He himself.”

”Mhm?”

”Just to frame President Lu,” Zheng Xiaojue relayed the information she heard, ”Recently, President Lu has been clashing fiercely with President He. President Lu has been ignoring many of President He’s arrangements, consistently contradicting him. Even people from President Lu’s faction have openly expressed their dissatisfaction with President He, sending emails complaining about his tyrannical management of artists that led to several spoiled business deals and substantial losses. They say Chengqian Entertainment has become his personal fiefdom, turning the entire business department into a logistics one, stripped of any autonomy. The situation got so out of hand that people are saying President He couldn’t take it anymore and decided to create this scandal to get rid of President Lu.”

Zhou Yun fell into deep thought.

When Zheng Xiaojue said this, Zhou Yun’s first reaction was not to dismiss the news as false but to think that this indeed sounded like something President He could do.

But could this really be the case?

Zhou Yun didn’t believe that if President He really planned this, he would let it be so easily deciphered.

Then, always the first to catch the trending gossip, Song Chi called her to share the intelligence he gathered.

”I heard President He set a trap and ensnared one of your deputy directors?” Song Chi said, ”Apparently, he leaked some fake clues and flaws to Lu Yicheng, making him believe the drug use was real, when it was actually just fishing.”

Zhou Yun said, ”I don’t know; where are you all getting this news? I’m completely out of the loop.”

”Are you not getting any information from Chengqian Entertainment?” Song Chi said in surprise, ”I was hoping to get some juicy details from you.”

Zhou Yun couldn’t help but pout.

”However, the news I received all points to a scheme devised by President He. In any case, it’s clear that President He isn’t the victim here,” Zhou Yun said.

”If that’s true, President He is really ruthless, daring to walk into fire to eliminate Lu Yicheng.”

Zhou Yun: ”Honestly, though President He is very disagreeable, he is incredibly capable. I think it’s not so simple for Lu Yicheng to replace him. Look, even when headquarters were preparing to replace him, he managed to find ways to delay and turn the situation around.”

”The most impressive part about him is his ability to handle even you,” Song Chi emphasized.

Zhou Yun: ”I’m not that hard to handle.”

”Everyone in the industry knows that in your first year at the company, you were left to fend for yourself, even oppressed by Wei Ru Xue and President He didn’t lift a finger to help, just watching from the sidelines.”

”If it comes down to it, it’s not that he couldn’t stand me, just making choices for profit. If put in his position, I might have made the same decisions,” Zhou Yun said.

”You’re quite calm about it.”

”It’s not that I am calm; it’s that I’m no longer in that stage of my life, allowing me to view the situation dispassionately,” Zhou Yun said, ”At the time, I was quite resentful.”

”That’s also calm.”

”How’s the planning for your party in August going?” Zhou Yun asked.

”It’s underway.”

”Can I invite a few friends to join?”

”Of course, who do you want to invite?”

”Sister Wen Xi and Yuk Chu,” Zhou Yun said, ”I’m worried it will just be your friends there, and I won’t know anyone, making it awkward for me.”

”The whole point is for you to meet new friends.”

”It’s good to have a backup plan,” Zhou Yun laughed, ”Just in case I don’t click with any of your new friends.”

The two often spoke like this, what was said didn’t matter as much as the fact that they were speaking and listening.

This allowed them to forget that it had been a long time since they last met.

Zhou Yun was indeed carefully cherishing something that she herself had not fully realized.

After hanging up, Zhou Yun happily sighed.

Many years ago, she had secretly loved a boy. She no longer remembered what he looked like, but she still remembered following him a little way home after school, and when they reached the crossroad, the habit of sighing, which was just as pleasant.

As for the truth behind President He’s alleged drug use, Zhou Yun had no way of knowing. However, about a week later, Zhou Lan told her that Lu Yicheng had been transferred to another subsidiary of Chengqian Group that had no ties to the entertainment industry.

In light of this, regardless of the true situation, for President He, he had achieved a favorable outcome. This was a result worth celebrating, his biggest competitor was gone, and President He no longer had to worry about being replaced. His position was once again secure.

Perhaps for the same reason, President He suddenly organized a small private party at his villa, inviting Zhou Yun and Zhou Lan.

If there were no other work commitments, everyone generally attended these kinds of small gatherings.

With other obligations, they would still make an effort to attend.

After all, President He rarely organized such events.

Zhou Yun felt that President He was truly in high spirits, needing to share his joy.

Zhou Yun also thought that the news of this small party would surely reach Lu Yicheng’s ears. She wondered what he would think upon hearing it.

President He invited other senior executives from the company, acquaintances, business partners, and from the artist side, he invited only Li Ci, Xu Siyao, and Zhou Yun, the three celebrities currently under contract with Chengqian Entertainment.

The party was conducted in a buffet style, special arrangements were made in the yard, a sparkling string of light bulbs surrounded it, tables were set with candles, flowers, and food.

A few young handsome men and beautiful women were hired as wait staff.

July nights are hot.

But whatever design had been done to the yard, cool breezes circulated, making it not feel hot.

Zhou Yun met some new people, chatting with a completely social demeanor.

President He proudly introduced her to several executives from film production companies, all carrying prestigious names.

”Our Xiao Yun, even Director Kang Xin said good things, she’s award-worthy, they recently collaborated on ’Heart Inquiry’, you must know it, with a good script and production, she’s the first we consider,”

”She’s heading to Venice in September, in recent years not many Chinese-language films make it to the international stage, our Xiao Yun has both talent and luck, starring in her first film and making an international debut, how many actresses can achieve that?”
