Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 265: Chapter 227: Rise Phase: 63

——Zhou Yun must have done it on purpose, right? Are there still celebrities who ”accidentally” slip on social media these days?

——If you ask me, Zhou Yun’s move came too late. If I encountered someone like Xu Siyao in real life, I’d have lost my cool and unleashed my ninety-meter long blade long ago. The fact that Zhou Yun held back until now is impressive.

——Xu Siyao is only good at snatching roles from newcomers. I’ve disliked her since watching ”Eighth Heartbeat”. She’s got an inherently annoying face, not to mention a dark heart.

——The entertainment industry has always been about the survival of the fittest. Xu Siyao is more popular and can carry a drama more effectively. Compared to newcomers, producers would naturally prefer to work with her. What’s the problem with that? If you want to blame someone, blame yourself for not being popular. Besides, compared to Xu Siyao snatching roles, isn’t Zhou Yun’s passive-aggressive behavior even more disgusting? Shooting the same drama under the same company, and then she comes out to trample on Xu Siyao like this? That’s just vile.

——Please, can some of you get your facts straight? When Xu Siyao threw shade at Zhou Yun before, why didn’t I see you coming out to call her disgusting?

...

The internet erupted into chaos.

Zhou Yun’s fans naturally defended Zhou Yun.

And naturally, Xu Siyao’s fans defended Xu Siyao.

Both sides fought fiercely.

The more the situation escalated, the more people became aware of Xu Siyao stealing roles from newcomers.

No celebrity’s fan base can compete with a force called the ”General Public”.

Regardless, the online community still has a basic sense of right and wrong. No matter the so-called law of the jungle, we don’t play by those rules in a modern civilized society with mainstream values. Therefore, Xu Siyao’s actions are problematic, incorrect, and deserve criticism.

One after another, people took to Xu Siyao’s Weibo to berate her.

Everyone at Chengqian Entertainment, from top to bottom, was left baffled.

They were somewhat at a loss about how to react to the situation.

It was clear that Zhou Yun had made the move. Zhou Lan, Zhou Yun’s agent, didn’t try to shirk responsibility and took a clear stance, raising their flag high.

Zhou Yun taking action against Xu Siyao wasn’t new in the entertainment industry.

Everyone had seen it happen before.

When Wei Ruxue and Ning Yao were still with the company, they fought constantly.

But now everyone needed an attitude. They needed to know, with Zhou Yun and Xu Siyao’s conflict escalating, which side would the company take?

If it weren’t for the two main parties involved being Zhou Yun and Xu Siyao, everyone would know without thinking, the company would definitely choose the more popular one. Any company would want to protect their cash cow.

But Xu Siyao had her special circumstances.

There had always been rumors within the company about Xu Siyao having an ambiguous relationship with He Yong.

The sudden incident caused He Yong a lot of headaches.

He Yong responded to inquiries from headquarters, and he had to deal with the media and partners until he was nearly burnt out.

He hadn’t taken it seriously when Zhou Yun mentioned making a move against Xu Siyao. He thought he understood Zhou Yun well enough that she wouldn’t do such a thing. For so long since her debut, he had never seen Zhou Yun cause any trouble. He Yong had even reflected that Zhou Yun was the least troublesome popular actress he managed.

But Zhou Yun did it as she said she would.

And when she acted, she did it big, causing a sensational stir that surprised everyone.

He Yong thought about calling Zhou Yun, but his hand paused as it reached for the phone.

A question flashed through his mind.

What would he say to Zhou Yun if he called her?

Scold her? But He Yong wouldn’t let a single curse come out of his mouth, even if he bit his tongue. Besides, was Zhou Yun someone he could scold?

He Yong was sure that if he dared to call and scold Zhou Yun, she wouldn’t bother with him for a month.

He made a call and said, ”Whatever you do, quash this controversy quickly and take down the trending searches!”

He Yong wouldn’t just watch Xu Siyao’s reputation deteriorate further. After all, aside from Zhou Yun, she was the most popular actress in the company.

Not to mention, He Yong appreciated Xu Siyao’s sense of tact.

No matter what Xu Siyao was like outside or how she treated Zhou Yun, in front of He Yong, Xu Siyao was always obedient and well-behaved.

Who would have thought, five minutes later, the Public Relations department called him.

”President He, Zhou Yun just posted a Weibo update.”

He Yong replied irritably, ”You need to make a special call to remind me that she made a post?”

The Public Relations department said, ”Zhou Yun posted a photo with Wang Jing, and now the internet has gone wild.”

He Yong felt darkness before his eyes.

On the set of ”Dingfengbo”.

Everyone could feel the tension and undercurrents swirling in the air.

Li Ci and his assistant were in the resting room.

His assistant had been with him for a long time, and they knew each other well, so they spoke openly.

The assistant whispered, ”Honestly, I wouldn’t have guessed Zhou Yun could be so ruthless. She wouldn’t act unless it was serious, but once she did, she went straight for the kill.”

Li Ci sat playing with his phone in the chair, smiled faintly upon hearing his assistant’s words, his smile ambiguous.

”You’ve been mingling with me for so many years. What, did Zhou Yun’s face deceive you too? Did you think she was a kind person?”

His assistant said, ”She’s been signed with the company for two years before, and many things about her are known within the company. She really never did things like this before, not even when Xu Siyao insinuated against her during a livestream at the beginning of this year, she never retaliated.”

”This just proves she can endure.”

”Xu Siyao is too flashy for my liking,” the assistant said.

Li Ci chuckled lightly, ”You’re not her assistant. What does it matter whether you like her or not, it’s all the same.”

”Brother Ci, what if Xu Siyao pesters you?” the assistant asked, ”She’s pretty influential, remember when she threw a tantrum about not walking the red carpet and pissed off the new editor-in-chief of ’Victor’, Ren Sumin, to the point that she ignored Xu Siyao? Yet Xu Siyao still brazenly hugged Ren Sumin, it’s terrifying.”

Li Ci replied, ”Nothing scary about it, it’s all just for show. Anyway, it’s not me who suffers.”

He shrugged and said, ”Go take a look. Isn’t the next scene a confrontation between those two? See if they start fighting on set.”

The assistant probably wanted to go all along, but upon hearing Li Ci’s words, immediately jumped up, ”Then I’m off.”

”Just have a look, don’t speak out of turn and bring trouble. I don’t want to get involved in their struggle,” Li Ci advised.

”Don’t worry, Brother Ci, I promise I’m just watching the fire from across the river.”
