Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 251: Chapter 213: Rising Phase: 49

Xu Siyao’s first sight upon entering the venue was Editor-in-Chief Ren affectionately holding Zhou Yun’s hand, both of them conversing intimately, surrounded by many people who were taking pictures with their cell phones or cameras, as if the two were engaged in some important meeting.

A strong surge of jealousy arose from the depths of her heart.

Xu Siyao had never truly acknowledged Zhou Yun’s superiority.

In Xu Siyao’s eyes, everything Zhou Yun owned was merely due to good luck. She was no less talented than Zhou Yun. After all, Zhou Yun had debuted only a year earlier than her, and wasn’t a long-standing, established leading lady like Su Yan and Lew Qingqing. Xu Siyao had always been scheming to snatch the position of ”Chengqian’s number one sister” from Zhou Yun’s hands. She believed she could do it.

Too many changes had occurred tonight.

Xu Siyao hadn’t thought it through at first. Although her ambition was great, she did not plan on snatching the limelight from Wei Ruxue, Lew Qingqing, Su Yan, and Li Ci—so many celebrities present.

But the rapid online spread of Zhou Yun’s salvage operation and her refusal to walk the red carpet made Xu Siyao realize something: if she didn’t make a bold move tonight, it would become another black mark in her history.

Thus, Xu Siyao managed to arrange with He Yong and Chen Wenjun for Li Ci to change the order of appearance, so she could rightfully delay her entrance.

She felt triumphantly glorious, and poised, with a touch of scheming.

What was the big deal with falling down?

The key was the hand Li Ci extended to her in front of so many media.

The key was the moment when she placed her hand in Li Ci’s, the gratitude and excitement in her eyes.

She couldn’t compete with those people in terms of popularity and fame, but Li Ci could.

As Xu Siyao walked into the inner area, she was engulfed by a tide of emotions, feeling incredibly proud of her ”comeback against the wind” tonight.

But the Editor-in-Chief of ”Victor” was holding Zhou Yun’s hand so warmly, laughing and talking with her.

Xu Siyao suddenly realized a reality she had subconsciously neglected: her actions tonight had offended ”Victor.”

She composed herself and took the initiative to approach Ren Sumin and Zhou Yun.

”Sister Xiao Yun, Editor-in-Chief Ren,” Xu Siyao said, showing an apologetic and pitiful smile, ”I’m so sorry for being late. The traffic was really bad on the way here. Fortunately, I made it to the red carpet. I hope I haven’t caused you any trouble.”

Zhou Yun looked at her thoughtfully but said nothing.

What else could Ren Sumin say upon seeing Xu Siyao?

She didn’t have a single word she wanted to say.

This silence was unexpected for Xu Siyao.

This silence reminded Xu Siyao that the impact of tonight’s event was more severe than she had anticipated.

Regardless, she was now an actress with a hit drama in hand; Ren Sumin shouldn’t be laying her down like this, no matter how dissatisfied she was.

Xu Siyao steeled herself, suddenly stepping forward and embracing Ren Sumin, irrespective of her attitude.

”Editor-in-Chief Ren, thank you for inviting me to tonight’s event.”

A few seconds of astonishment crossed Ren Sumin’s face.

She truly hadn’t expected Xu Siyao to pull something like this.

People around were taking photos.

Xu Siyao released her, her face showing a very sincere expression.

Ren Sumin suddenly felt a burst of anger with nowhere to vent.

When Xu Siyao drew near, Zhou Yun had already been subtly moving backward.

After dealing with Xu Siyao before, Zhou Yun had fully experienced Xu Siyao’s shamelessness and brazenness. Therefore, she felt that the wisest choice for herself was to keep some distance from Xu Siyao to avoid being scammed.

Indeed, Zhou Yun’s approach was proven correct and wise.

The moment she saw Xu Siyao hugging Ren Sumin, she suddenly realized something.

Something that didn’t make her very happy.

Someone like Xu Siyao, she was bound to be hugely successful.

There’s an old saying that every dog has its day. Let’s not discuss whether this saying actually holds true, is Xu Siyao really a bad person?

Carefully reviewing the things she had done, Zhou Yun didn’t feel that she was a truly bad person, at most just a disgusting person.

But people like her, they can go all out, they can resort to any means to achieve their goals.

To tell the truth, if people like her are not successful, then who is?

People like her who just wait at home for opportunities to come knocking?

If she hadn’t luckily become popular, if she didn’t have some degree of choice and capital, with her character, what right does she have to pick and choose others?

Zhou Yun realized that whether it was ”Luoyan” or ”Falling Leaves”, she thought she had failed for various reasons, like others had already made arrangements, or the director preferred someone else, in reality, she never realized an issue within herself.

She had never really, without reservation, strived for any role.

If you’re not proactive, you’re just waiting to die.

Zhou Yun once believed in this saying, but she slowly forgot about it.

It’s as if in certain values, actively striving for something is always not a very good thing because it makes you look opportunistic, it makes you look incapable, needing to fight for it yourself, rather than others seeking you out.

Zhou Yun stood at the grand banquet, feeling heartbroken, and in an instant, she awoke.

The indoor event was nothing to write home about.

As soon as the event ended, Zhou Yun found Zhou Lan.

”Sister Lan, can you help me contact Director Xue Qin again, and arrange to meet her?” Zhou Yun said, ”Tell her that I really want to act in ’Falling Leaves’, I know she has other options, but she doesn’t understand me, I will be her best choice.”

Zhou Lan was shocked and amazed at Zhou Yun’s sudden change of attitude.

”What happened to you? Weren’t you previously content with what came your way?”

Zhou Yun: ”I was provoked by Xu Siyao. Look how hard she works, what about me? I even mocked her for her relentless striving, but when I think about myself, I really regret it. Have I really tried my best and fought for the roles that I loved and missed?”

Zhou Lan burst out laughing.

”Xu Siyao has really given you quite the stimulation, huh? I thought you would continue to be so laissez-faire.”

”If I keep being laissez-faire, I’ll be approaching Western Heaven soon.”

”It seems I need to award Xu Siyao the Best Stimulant prize.”

”Has she made it onto the trending search tonight?” Zhou Yun asked.

”It’s more than just making it onto the trending search, photos of her falling on the red carpet and being helped up by Li Ci have gone viral,” Zhou Lan said, ”Tonight’s trending list was basically dominated by a few of you, congratulations, your life-saving moment also hit the trending list, the company paid for it.”

”He Yong must be over the moon.”

”Of course, Xu Siyao fought a brilliant battle tonight, even though I don’t like her style of doing things, I have to admit, this girl has great ambitions and she gambled and won.”
