Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 298: Chapter 260: Rise Phase: 96

”Not a big deal. They just said some war scenes are too bloody,” Song Chi spoke with a hint of helplessness, ”With Director Kang Xin on board, the film won’t get stuck for too long.”

”Has Director Kang Xin been preparing any new projects recently?” Zhou Yun asked.

”Thinking of acting?”

”Not me. I don’t have time to shoot now, but Yuk Chu does. I want to see if there’s a suitable role for her.”

”Did she tell you she wants to act in Kang Xin’s projects?” Song Chi asked, ”I can inquire for her, see if there’s a suitable part.”

”She never tells me these things. She’s quite lazy, but I hope she can progress better. Last time we attended an event together, and although she didn’t say it, I could feel she was somewhat disappointed,” Zhou Yun embraced Song Chi, continuing, ”In this line of business, I only have such a good friend. I don’t want to become distant in the future. The roles she gets access to are pretty average right now. I think it would be a good opportunity for her to learn from a big director’s film, even if there are fewer roles, she could learn a lot.”

”Would her company agree?” Song Chi asked.

With the current agency system, many actors don’t refuse to act in better projects, but the agencies, because of lower pay offered by those projects, push actors to work in high-paying yet poor-quality productions with bad working teams.

Zhou Yun: ”Shouldn’t be a big problem, I know her agent, who’s quite nice. When I got caught up in that scandal with you, everything was a mess, but she helped me out.”

Song Chi nodded, saying, ”Then I’ll look into it and see if there’s a suitable play. I will recommend her.”

”You don’t need to go out of your way,” Zhou Yun said.

”I know,” Song Chi nodded.

The next day, Zhou Yun packed up and left early in the morning, heading straight for the airport.

Zheng Xiaojue saw Zhou Yun yawning constantly and asked, ”Sister Xiao Yun, did you not sleep well last night?”

Zhou Yun: ”It was okay, just tired.”

Actually, it was because she was up late last night and really didn’t sleep well.

But she couldn’t tell this to Zheng Xiaojue.

Zheng Xiaojue said, ”Then Sister Xiao Yun, why not rest in the car for a while? It’s still over an hour to the airport.”

”I can’t sleep well in the car.” Unless she was extremely tired, Zhou Yun preferred not to sleep in the car as it could make her dizzy.

Zheng Xiaojue continued, ”Sister Lan said she would come and meet with us tonight.”

”She’s coming? I didn’t think she would,” Zhou Yun said, surprised.

”For the ’Victor’ shoot, she said she wants to be there in person,” Zheng Xiaojue said.

Zhou Yun hummed in acknowledgment.

This was for the October magazine cover shoot which Ren Sumin had promised her before.

Because Zhou Yun had to go to Venice in September, in addition to the film festival, she had other commitments, so her return date was uncertain, hence the shoot was scheduled in advance.

In the evening, Zhou Lan, together with Wang Jing, met up with Zhou Yun at the hotel.

Upon meeting her, Wang Jing bowed deeply to Zhou Yun, saying, ”Sister Xiao Yun, thank you for helping me get this opportunity.”

Truth be told, it wasn’t actually because of Zhou Yun, but because Zhou Lan had talked to the director of ”Geology Talk”, which is why Wang Jing got the opportunity to be a flying guest.

Zhou Yun just smiled and asked, ”Got any roles lined up?”

Wang Jing said, ”I’ve taken a role in a drama.”

Zhou Lan added, ”An ancient costume mystery romance drama by Yuehai, with the male lead being Yin Zhou.”

”Yin Zhou?” Zhou Yun said upon hearing this; an old acquaintance she had worked with on ”Eighth Heartbeat,” ”That’s good.”

”Yeah, and directed by Lu Yuan,” Zhou Lan smiled.

”Lu Yuan?” Zhou Yun turned to Wang Jing and said, ”He’s not very demanding of his actors. Do some preparatory work yourself and don’t slack off.”

Wang Jing nodded earnestly and fearfully.

”Got it, Sister Xiao Yun. I’ll work hard.”

Seeing Wang Jing a bit nervous in front of her, Zhou Yun thought for a moment, smiled, and didn’t say anything more.

After Wang Jing had left, Zhou Lan smiled at Zhou Yun and said, ”This kid isn’t as determined as you. She’s obedient, but maybe too obedient.”

”Why did you let her act in Lu Yuan’s film?” Zhou Yun asked with distaste.

Zhou Lan: ”Do you know how sought-after Lu Yuan’s projects are now? Have you forgotten? He just released a hit in the first half of the year, a hit that you starred in. I managed to get her a female lead role because of past connections. They put their faith in her, thinking maybe she could ride on your coattails.”

Zhou Yun: ”...Alright.”

”Your path is hard to replicate. She still needs to advance step by step, steadily and firmly,” Zhou Lan said, ”For that modern drama by Zheng Xiaowen, I’m trying to get her the second female lead. What do you think?”

”That’s fine,” responded Zhou Yun, ”But still, don’t let her get too tied up with me. Look at Xu Siyao; although she’s famous now, when people talk about her, they inevitably think of me. It’s not necessary.”

”You shouldn’t pity her. He Yong just tailored a drama specifically for her,” Zhou Lan said, ”A leading role.”

”She’s really the apple of He Yong’s eye,” Zhou Yun said dismissively.

”Remember that project ’Letter to You’ which has been seeking you? Do you recall?” Zhou Lan mentioned, ”I heard He Yong is pulling strings, trying to get Xu Siyao the role.”

”Xu Siyao?” Zhou Yun was surprised.

Zhou Lan nodded and said, ”They dropped word that they wanted to invite a top-tier Actress, but since He Luochuan isn’t directing anymore, no actress wants to take part. The project almost fell through. Isn’t He Yong eyeing it, trying to get it for Xu Siyao?”

”To tell you the truth, if Wang Jing were more famous now, I’d definitely work hard to snatch that role for her.” Zhou Yun put her hand on Zhou Lan’s shoulder, ”Sister Lan, please work on making Wang Jing famous. I’m narrow-minded; I just can’t stand seeing Xu Siyao do well.”

Zhou Lan suddenly laughed.

”Don’t joke, Xu Siyao is very wary of Wang Jing. I’ve heard about it. Even though He Yong had the idea of giving Wang Jing a role in that custom-tailored drama, Xu Siyao absolutely refused,” Zhou Lan told her, ”She knows very well how she got famous. Of course, she wouldn’t want anyone following in her footsteps.”

The two had a drink at the hotel bar, chatted for a while, and then went upstairs to rest.

Little did they know, an incident would occur that night.

Zhou Yun didn’t find out until the next morning.

That night, a man, somehow got a hold of a keycard and made his way into Wang Jing’s room. It just so happened that Wang Jing got up to go to the bathroom and heard noises. She quickly locked the bathroom door and called the front desk.

By the time Zhou Yun heard about the incident, the police had already taken the man away.

Wang Jing looked panic-stricken, pale-faced, and frightened to stay alone in her room, so Zhou Lan brought her to her own room.

Zhou Yun went to check on the situation.

Wang Jing was clearly traumatized and restless.

Zhou Yun comforted her, and softly asked Zhou Lan what had happened.

Zhou Lan, visibly annoyed, said, ”The police are investigating. I saw the surveillance footage, and that man entered using a card, so he’s definitely connected to someone inside the hotel!”
