Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 295: Chapter 257: Rising Phase: 93

Wen Xi said thank you and hung up the phone.

She called Jin Su.

”They’re organizing an audition, and I’ve mentioned it to Zhou Yun. You’ll get a chance to audition.”

Jin Su sounded somewhat disappointed, ”Audition, huh? Alright, thanks, Sister.”

The boy’s slightly disheartened tone came through the phone, tinged with an inexplicable ignorance of the way the world works.

Wen Xi certainly detected the disappointment in Jin Su’s voice.

Was Jin Su thinking, why hadn’t she directly secured the role for him?

The relationship between the two was ultimately somewhat different after all. They shared the same teacher, and the teacher had only them as students. If one were to speak of their teacher’s lineage, they were both pillars of that lineage. Supporting each other was to be expected. Nowadays, people always talk about independence, but some things can’t be clearly separated, and even the act of attempting to do so seems unkind.

Wen Xi wasn’t annoyed. She knew Jin Su wasn’t blaming her; he wasn’t the kind who just waits for handouts. However, after going through audition after audition with many failures, sometimes due to his own lack of talent, sometimes because he simply didn’t click with the other party, and sometimes having interest from both sides only to be cut off because someone else had stronger connections or a more powerful backing.

Wen Xi was indeed among the top-tier supermodels in the country, but her interactions with the film and television industry remained superficial and she lacked real, influential contacts. Of course, the production team was willing to give face to her to a certain extent, but that would at best get Jin Su a minor role. Jin Su didn’t have the heart to play minor roles; otherwise, his modeling career was smooth sailing and had better prospects than playing bit parts. It was because he wasn’t satisfied with that level of achievement that he aspired to a bigger stage.

And Wen Xi’s ability to help in this regard was limited.

She too hoped that Jin Su could achieve greater success, but her ability didn’t match her desire.

The news that Zhou Yun was preparing a fashion-themed TV drama caught the attention of some in the industry.

Actually, the show was far from being solely Zhou Yun’s endeavor, but since the word was already out, of course, people believed it. Zheng Xiaowen and He Yong, both of whom had a deep relationship with Zhou Yun, evidenced the importance of Zhou Yun’s role in the drama.

A veteran producer mentioned the news with a laugh: ”Zhou Yun has only shot a few films? Some actors turn to directing after they excel in acting—does she really think she’s capable of going Behind the Scenes too?”

The implication was clear: skepticism.

In reality, every different job within a production can be as different as night and day.

It is not guaranteed that an actor taking on behind-the-scenes tasks will excel at them.

Zhou Yun didn’t think she had such talent and capability to switch careers just like that. But rumors spread like wildfire, and without the chance for explanation, she had already been labeled as an ambitious newcomer eager to produce her own show.

Song Chi laughed: ”That’s quite a big step you’re taking there.”

”Ah, what does it have to do with me? Just by giving it a thought, you’d know it’s impossible for me to work behind the scenes. I haven’t even figured out my identity as an actor yet,” Zhou Yun said despondently, resting her head on her hand, ”Moreover, there are so many other films to shoot, when would I have the free time?”

Song Chi asked, ”But, are you planning to personally select the male lead? I’ve heard some Wind Sound about organizing an audition.”

”Yep, that’s true,” Zhou Yun said, ”Sister Lan suggested that since the film’s male lead is merely a pretty face, hardly any A-list actors would be willing to do it. It might be better to pick a newcomer directly.”

Song Chi tapped Zhou Yun’s hand and said, ”Why don’t you ask me if I want to do it?”

Zhou Yun pushed his hand away, ”Can you please not joke? For you to act in this drama, it would be too demeaning.”

”I honestly wouldn’t mind,” Song Chi said.

”You might not mind, but what about your agent and partners?” Zhou Yun replied pragmatically, ”And your investors, they would think you’ve lost your mind to take on such a role.”

Song Chi stared at Zhou Yun, then suddenly sighed.

Zhou Yun said, ”You’ve helped me more than enough; you don’t need to sacrifice your own interests for me.”

A bitter smile etched on Song Chi’s face, ”I’m not doing it just for you.”

”I know,” Zhou Yun suddenly hugged Song Chi’s neck, ”I know, but it’s alright, we have a long future ahead.”

”Sometimes, you’re so rational that it makes me feel extremely unworthy; I’m the one blinded by impulse.”

”Song Chi, believe me, between us, the one blinded by impulse is definitely me. At least being with you like this right now, hugging you, it was never in my plans.”

Song Chi smiled.

He had already forgotten this issue.

Zhou Yun said, ”Sister Lan has explained many pros and cons to me, so you don’t have to force yourself for my sake. Leaning on your support, nowadays, there are few who can make me do things I don’t want to. That alone is my greatest fortune; I have to be content.”

Song Chi rested his forehead against Zhou Yun’s and said, ”But I want to give you something even better.”

Zhou Yun replied, ”Me too.”

Undeniably, sometimes such questions will surface in our minds: what exactly do couples look like?

When we see a couple being mushy or showing off their love, it’s mostly annoyance that prevails. Yet when we witness two people genuinely in love, even those who’ve decided to remain single for life can be touched by such interaction.

Reading about an old couple who weathered the storms together brings tears to our eyes; reading about a couple who have been through life and death trials also hits us hard with their mutual support and perseverance.

Maybe when you were a child, you saw such a scene.

Your parents sharing one small umbrella walking in the rain; the umbrella so tiny, they could only snuggle close together.

At that moment, an indescribable emotion welled up in your heart, but you clearly realized this action of snuggling.

What exactly do couples look like?

Everyone has a different answer, different imaginations.

But truly loving couples definitely share one thing in common. Both want to give each other something better. That’s why we know why O. Henry’s ”The Gift of Magi” is known the world over.

Zhou Yun is not embarrassed, not unwilling to accept her boyfriend’s help, and it’s not for various other reasons—it’s just that she doesn’t want Song Chi to be at a loss.

She knows Song Chi has better options.

Thus, she doesn’t want Song Chi to give up that better choice for her.

When you fall for someone, you will think the same way Zhou Yun does. If you don’t believe it, you’ll understand when you meet that special someone.
