Chapter 149: Chapter 140: Refusing the Surgery for Wang Wannian and His Father

Wang Wanguang was in the hospital room. His father, Wang Hongqing, had also come to visit the old man today.

”Wanguang, what are you muttering about over there?”

”By the way, didn’t you send Grandpa’s medical records, test results, and imaging data to your Professor Liang yesterday? Has he replied yet?”

Wang Hongqing looked at his father on the hospital bed, whose body was growing thinner by the day. He felt a pang of sorrow and was anxious to arrange the surgery for him soon.

Wang Wanguang put down his phone and admitted to his father,

”Dad, something big happened in the world of hepatobiliary surgery today. The Laparoscopic Diagnosis and Treatment Technology Research Center at our Fan City First Hospital has become famous.”

”The *Jin Country Surgery Journal* actually published a special issue just for this research center. What’s more, every single paper in it was led by a doctor named Wu Ting—he was either the corresponding author or the first author.”

”The journal’s cover story even introduced the entire Laparoscopic Diagnosis and Treatment Technology Center. I can’t believe our Fan City First Hospital actually put together a dream team, assembling experts from the Xianglin City Xuanshang University Affiliated Hospital, Qinghe City Jiuhua Hospital, and the Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital.”

Listening to Wang Wanguang’s explanation, Wang Hongqing suddenly recalled the name Wu Ting, along with a young face.

Wang Wanguang handed his phone to his father. Wang Hongqing immediately recognized the handsome, dashing young doctor on the cover.

”Isn’t that the young doctor who came with their department director the other day?”

Wu Ting’s face was hard to forget once you’d seen it.

Wang Wanguang’s expression soured.

”Yes. The man we turned away that day is this very same young physician, who’s now one of the most sought-after names in hepatobiliary surgery.”

”According to the papers in this journal, several of the research findings are even relevant to Grandpa’s surgery.”

Wang Wanguang was arrogant by nature, but he had the talent and credentials to back it up.

After all, to become an attending physician in the hepatobiliary surgery department at Lin Province Pinfan Hospital, one had to be exceptional. He at least possessed that much insight and judgment.

”The indocyanine green fluorescence laparoscopy technique, the ultrasound-assisted technology, and most astoundingly, the application of a 3D imaging navigation platform with artificial intelligence algorithms... combining these three technologies would absolutely increase the success rate for a liver cancer resection!”

Wang Wanguang had already skimmed through these three papers, and they had left him utterly stunned.

Putting all other factors aside, as an attending hepatobiliary surgeon, he knew exactly how much of a boost these auxiliary technologies would provide for his grandfather’s surgery if they were mature and properly implemented.

”Now that you mention it, I do remember. When Lian Jun invited Director Huo’s team, they mentioned their research center had a combined auxiliary surgical technique. But they said it was still in the early stages, not yet promoted, and not formally in use at their department.”

”It’s just... I was so rude when I rejected them that day. It’ll be very difficult to invite them back now.”

Wang Hongqing never would have thought that the medical team from Fan City First Hospital could pioneer such an impressive technology.

This had become a rather tricky situation.

Wang Wanguang felt a little awkward, but after a moment’s thought, he reassured himself:

’True, the Fan City First Hospital team’s research is impressive. But Professor Liang and Dean Liu have already agreed to come to Bei City to perform Grandpa’s surgery. And while Fan City First Hospital’s cutting-edge technology has a lot of potential, it’s still just in the preliminary research phase, after all.’

’I’m sure that with the skills of Professor Liang Ang and Dean Liu Rong, they can still easily outperform this so-called new surgical technique.’

Wang Hongqing listened to his son’s analysis and nodded in agreement.

”Indeed. Professor Liang Ang and Dean Liu Rong are the country’s top experts, after all. In the field of liver tumor resection, how could they possibly be outdone by a team from the City First Hospital?”

”A real man knows how to let things go. So we missed out on the Fan City First Hospital team? It’s no big deal. Some wet-behind-the-ears kid is only impressive on paper; he hasn’t proven himself in a clinical setting. It’s a long road from publishing a paper to performing a truly mature surgical procedure. I trust our Wanguang’s eye and his judgment.”

Wang Hongqing patted Wang Wanguang’s shoulder.

”Let’s wait for good news from your Professor Liang.”

Wang Wanguang nodded. ’What’s there to regret?’ he thought. He had invited Liang Ang, a top professor from Lin Province Pinfan Hospital who was renowned throughout the entire field of hepatobiliary surgery. This Wu Ting’s team had just published a special issue, that was all.

Just as Wang Wanguang and Wang Hongqing were trying to convince themselves, they received a call from Professor Liang.

Feeling a little nervous, Wang Wanguang put the call on speakerphone so his dad could listen in.

”Professor Liang... Have you and Dean Liu made it to Fan City yet? My grandfather’s surgery... what do you think?”

Wang Wanguang was so anxious and impatient that he blurted out the questions before Professor Liang had a chance to speak.

Professor Liang, on the other end of the line, sounded understanding, and even pleasantly surprised.

”Wanguang, Dean Liu and I have carefully analyzed all of your grandfather’s physical exam records and imaging data. You know, your grandfather is a very lucky man.”

”Here in Xiao City, at the Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital, Dean Liu and I just assisted in a surgery for the exact same condition. The patient’s case was just as severe as your grandfather’s, if not more so.”

”And the good news is that the surgery was a resounding success—far more perfect than Dean Liu and I had even anticipated. And here in Xiao City, we’ve met a team that’s even better suited to perform this surgery than we are.”
