Doctor: I Can Synthesize Infinite Entries

Chapter 103: Chapter 102: Debut! The Stunning Aesthetic of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine

’If he were capable of performing the surgery independently and just needed to borrow staff from Hepatobiliary Surgery, I’d let it slide. But he’s still in his learning phase and needs supervision. He should have at least given me a heads-up.’

Qin Donglai also began to wonder if he had given Wu Ting too much authority recently, allowing him so much freedom that he was starting to get out of hand.

He would have to find time to talk to Director Huo.

Director Huo had been busy contacting people everywhere to secure the provincial-level key specialty status for the Emergency Surgery Department, so he rarely spent time in the department.

He had a hands-off approach with Wu Ting. So, when he returned, Qin Donglai would have to ask Director Huo to tighten Wu Ting’s leash. He needed to act more cautiously and prudently.

After Qin Donglai left to find people, Luo Ming returned to the on-call room.

Just as Luo Ming sat down for a moment, Wu Ting and Deputy Director Huang Hong arrived at the department, talking and laughing.

When Luo Ming saw Wu Ting, he immediately waved him over and warned him,

”Wu Ting, how can you be so carefree? Don’t you know you nearly caused a disaster?”

Luo Ming was genuinely worried about Wu Ting.

”Why did you go and request so many patients from Hepatobiliary Surgery? Don’t you know Dr. Qin just had a batch of patients transferred from a lower-level hospital these past two days? He was planning on using them for your special training.”

”And what do you do? You go and request another batch of patients from Hepatobiliary Surgery.”

”In two or three days, a total of twenty cholecystectomies. Are you trying to work Dr. Qin to death?”

Hearing Luo Ming’s complaints, Wu Ting understood and calmly explained,

”I know about Dr. Qin’s arrangements. Twenty cholecystectomies in two or three days isn’t a lot. With the two of us as primary surgeons, that’s only ten cases each, averaging just three or four a day.”

”What? You’re saying you’ll be the primary surgeon? You can already perform laparoscopic cholecystectomies on your own?”

”That’s right.”

Wu Ting pointed at Deputy Director Huang Hong.

”Actually, I invited Director Huang over today precisely to perform laparoscopic cholecystectomies together.”

Luo Ming was completely dumbfounded. ’Asking the Deputy Director of the National Medical Department to remove a gallbladder?’

”Director Huang? Are you sure?”

Wu Ting and Huang Hong chuckled.

”Dr. Luo, you’ve misunderstood. Director Huang won’t be removing the gallbladder. She will be assisting me. We are going to perform a brand-new Qi-regulating laparoscopic cholecystectomy.”

Listening to Wu Ting’s introduction, Luo Ming was impressed without fully understanding what he was talking about.

Wu Ting knew there was no point trying to explain it to Luo Ming.

He decided to call Dr. Qin first to put his mind at ease.

However, when Wu Ting called, Dr. Qin’s line was busy. Clearly, he was still scrambling to invite experts to save the day.

Wu Ting could only leave Dr. Qin a message, explaining the whole situation.

”Then let’s wait for Dr. Qin to get back before we start arranging the surgeries.”

A few minutes later, Qin Donglai rushed back.

Seeing Wu Ting and Huang Hong together, Qin Donglai realized Wu Ting wasn’t joking.

”When did you master cholecystectomy? And how did you even come up with a combined National Medicine and modern medicine therapy?”

Qin Donglai didn’t know what to say. Wu Ting’s performance was simply too miraculous.

”Maybe it’s just talent. I’ve been watching a lot of your surgical videos recently, Dr. Qin. They’re just so clear and classic. I already had a foundation in laparoscopic surgery, and yesterday I spent half the day learning in the Hepatobiliary Surgery department. Director Cai gave me a lot of inspiration and new ideas. Then today, I had an in-depth discussion with Director Huang, and this concept was born.”

Qin Donglai reluctantly accepted Wu Ting’s explanation.

’So my surgical videos have such a great teaching effect? Looks like watching my videos will have to be a required course for the junior doctors in the department from now on!’

”It’s just that I’ve already contacted Zhang Zhong from the Military Hospital and Jin Yu from Bei City First People’s Hospital. They’ve cleared their schedules, and I’ve already promised them the whole package—foot massages, drinks, the works. It’s fine to tell them not to do the surgery, but I can’t get out of wining and dining them.”

”Then let’s not tell them for now. Have them come anyway. We can just say it’s to let them see something new.”

Qin Donglai found himself looking forward to the reaction of those two old dogs when they saw Wu Ting’s new surgical technique.

Speaking of which, Wu Ting had practically grown up immersed in his surgical videos ever since joining City First Hospital. In a way, he was half an apprentice to him. When the apprentice excels, it reflects well on the master.

Thinking about it that way, the exorbitant cost of the entertainment he’d been roped into suddenly seemed bearable.

”Wu Ting, Director Huang, let’s begin this brand-new Qi-regulating laparoscopic cholecystectomy.”

Watching the three of them head to surgery, Luo Ming felt an itch to join, but he still had to stay on duty.

’But this new surgical technique is just getting started,’ he thought. ’Eventually, it will become widespread, and I’ll get a chance to participate.’

Luo Ming, who had watched the trio leave for the operating room, was on duty for a while before Yasui and Cheng Feng returned from their rounds.

Luo Ming intentionally let it slip that Wu Ting had gone to surgery.

”What? You’re saying Brother Ting has already mastered laparoscopic cholecystectomy?”

Cheng Feng was stunned. ’How long has it been since I was by Brother Ting’s side? He’s evolved again?’

Yasui was also full of admiration. Wu Ting’s growth rate was just too astonishing.

”To be precise, it’s not a traditional laparoscopic cholecystectomy. It’s a brand-new, improved, combined National Medicine and modern medicine Qi-regulating laparoscopic cholecystectomy!”

”Do you know what ’Qi-regulating’ means?”

Luo Ming began to explain, a hint of pride in his voice.

Yasui and Cheng Feng listened intently.

”Brother Ting is really showing off now.”

Yasui and Cheng Feng looked at each other, and the more they looked, the more they felt like a pair of blockheads.

A cholecystectomy wasn’t like an appendectomy. It came with many potential sequelae and risks. If it wasn’t handled properly, a bile leak could cause biliary peritonitis, which would constitute a medical malpractice incident.

It was only because of Wu Ting’s repeated excellent performances that Dr. Qin had enough trust in him to authorize him to be the primary surgeon for a cholecystectomy.

And Huang Hong, the distinguished Deputy Director of the National Medical Department, was at Wu Ting’s beck and call, joining him for the debut of a combined National Medicine and modern medicine surgery.

The three of them sat quietly in the on-call room, but their minds had all flown to the operating room.

「Inside the operating room.」

The debut of Wu Ting’s new surgical technique began.

Wu Ting was the primary surgeon, Dr. Qin personally acted as the laparoscope holder, and Director Huang assisted from the side.

Unlike a typical cholecystectomy, this surgery began with transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation 30 minutes before the patient’s general anesthesia.

The patient was in a supine position. Following her prior discussion with Wu Ting, Director Huang began her work.

She used *Acupoint Names and Locations* as the standard reference.

Wu Ting called out the acupoints one by one:

”...Zusanli...Tiantu...Danzhong...Zhongwan...Taichong...Neiguan...”

Upon hearing each name, Director Huang disinfected the local skin over the acupoint with a 75% ethanol cotton ball and then applied an electrode pad.

Watching the seamless coordination between Director Huang and Wu Ting, there was a unique beauty to this fusion of National Medicine and modern medicine.

Dr. Qin felt a tremor that seemed to originate from his very soul.

’So a cholecystectomy can be this artistic.’

”...Connect the ipsilateral Zusanli and Taichong to the same set of lead wires...”

”...Tiantu, Danzhong, Zhongwan, and the bilateral Neiguan will each be connected to their own set of lead wires, then linked to the Hua Tuo Brand Electronic Acupuncture Device... to perform electrical stimulation on the acupoints...”

”...Disperse-dense wave, frequency 2 Hz/100 Hz, current intensity 5 to 15 mA...”

Watching Wu Ting and Director Huang work, Dr. Qin felt an inexplicable surge of excitement.

’If this succeeds, it will be another major achievement for the Emergency Surgery Department!’
