Chapter 102: Chapter 101: A Date with Zhu Zhu

While Zhu Zhu drove, Wu Ting gave her a heads-up and began sending his required patient inclusion criteria to Dr. Lu Xuejun.

”Dr. Lu, here are the inclusion criteria for the patients I need: 1. Patients scheduled for laparoscopic cholecystectomy under general anesthesia in the near future. 2. Age 18-75. 3. No prior history of abdominal surgery. 4. Signed informed consent form.”

”The procedure I’m preparing this time differs from a conventional laparoscopic cholecystectomy. I’ll be collaborating with the National Medical Department to perform transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation...”

Seeing Wu Ting diligently preparing for work even while he was supposed to be resting, Zhu Zhu couldn’t help but feel a little impressed.

’It’s true that exceptional people are drawn to one another.’ Zhu Zhu was the same when it came to her job. She, too, would often schedule work-related tasks during her time off.

Gazing at Wu Ting’s profile, Zhu Zhu’s heart couldn’t help but start to pound.

’A handsome younger man’s charm is just too powerful!’

Being a few years older than Wu Ting, Zhu Zhu felt a unique sense of satisfaction from driving him around and picking up the tab.

...

...

When Lu Xuejun received Wu Ting’s message, he was a little surprised. ’This Wu Ting is certainly efficient.’

Since Director Cai himself had instructed him to cooperate fully with Wu Ting, Dr. Lu didn’t dare to slack off.

The Hepatobiliary Surgery Department had admitted plenty of patients recently, so it was no trouble at all to arrange for a few to be sent to Emergency Surgery.

Lu Xuejun handled it personally, immediately screening eight patients who needed surgery soon. He then compiled a list of their names and basic details and sent it to Wu Ting.

The next day, as afternoon approached, the patients Dr. Lu had arranged were transferred to the Emergency Surgery ward one after another.

After Lu Xuejun had sent his patients over, within the Emergency Department, Qin Donglai had also spent the last few days using his own connections to contact a batch of patients needing cholecystectomies from surrounding hospitals and lower-tier hospitals where he often freelanced.

They, too, were transferred into the Emergency Surgery ward at City First Hospital that very day.

As it happened, Dr. Luo Ming was on duty that night.

Luo Ming was completely unprepared for the arrival of two separate groups of patients.

He didn’t realize something was amiss until he started his rounds.

Luo Ming went straight to find Xiao Xixi.

”Sister Xiao, what’s going on? Why has Emergency Surgery admitted so many patients for cholecystectomies? And most of them need the procedure in the next day or two.”

For acute cholecystitis, you can’t delay surgery.

After hearing Luo Ming’s report, Xiao Xixi explained:

”I’m not sure what’s going on either. Dr. Qin arranged for a group to be transferred from other hospitals over the last few days. And today, another group has been trickling in from the Hepatobiliary Surgery outpatient clinic.”

”If you add it all up, we have to perform around twenty cholecystectomies in the next two or three days! How are we ever going to manage that!”

Luo Ming was completely stunned.

”Director Jiang’s schedule is packed. He’s been performing Wu’s Umbilical Hole Laparoscopic Appendectomies nonstop. He can’t possibly spare any time for more surgeries.”

”My schedule is also packed for the next two days; I have no time for surgery. How could Dr. Qin possibly handle all this by himself?”

If these surgeries weren’t performed promptly, there would be serious problems.

After Luo Ming finished, Xiao Xixi grew anxious as well.

”Don’t panic just yet. I’ll call Dr. Qin right now and see what he wants to do.”

A moment later, Xiao Xixi was on the phone with Qin Donglai.

Qin Donglai was also stunned after hearing the news.

”What’s going on? Why is Hepatobiliary Surgery sending patients to us in Emergency Surgery? Is it because our department took over that operating room from Thoracic Surgery? Are they deliberately trying to mess with us? Overwhelm our staff and make us look like a joke?”

Qin Donglai had no idea that Wu Ting had been invited to the Hepatobiliary Surgery department, nor did he imagine Wu Ting could secure so many patients from them for practice.

For a moment, he was at a complete loss.

”I admitted this group of patients with the intention of spending the next two or three days giving Wu Ting some intensive training on cholecystectomies. I had the whole schedule calculated and packed.”

”Now that Hepatobiliary Surgery has sent over another group, there’s no way I can handle it all by myself.”

”How about this, Sister Xiao? I’ll contact Hepatobiliary Surgery right away and tell them to take these patients back.”

Qin Donglai wasn’t sure what was really going on, so he figured he would contact Hepatobiliary Surgery first to find out.

”Okay, okay. Dr. Qin, please contact them right away. This group of patients was arranged by Lu Xuejun and transferred to our ward.”

Qin Donglai immediately called Lu Xuejun and got straight to the point, asking him to take the patients back.

”Dr. Qin, is the Emergency Surgery Department trying to play a joke on us over here in Hepatobiliary?”

”You’re the ones who requested these patients, and now you’re telling me you want to send them back.”

”That’s impossible. Our department is already booked solid. We don’t have the staff or the beds to spare.”

Lu Xuejun was utterly baffled.

”Patients *we* requested?”

Qin Donglai was stunned as well.

”Ah, Dr. Qin, you didn’t know? Yesterday, Dr. Wu from your department came to see Director Cai and specifically requested patients for cholecystectomy practice. I stayed up all night screening them for you.”

”I’ve already made all the arrangements. It’s not right for you to tell me to take them back now. I’d have no way to explain this to the doctors in my own department.”

”If our ORs were free and we had staff to spare, it would be a different story. But as it stands, it’s just not possible. You’ll have to figure this out within your own department.”

After hanging up, Lu Xuejun felt the whole thing was bizarre. ’Could Director Cai have misjudged him?’

’That Dr. Wu Ting seems so methodical and thorough in his actions. How could he have been involved in such a ridiculous mix-up?’

When Qin Donglai hung up the phone, his brow was deeply furrowed.

Clearly, Wu Ting was the culprit behind this whole mess.

’It’s my fault, too. I should have coordinated with Wu Ting.’

Qin Donglai sighed. It looked like they were stuck with the patients.

”Who would’ve thought Wu Ting was so capable he could actually requisition patients from Hepatobiliary Surgery.”

Luo Ming was equally surprised that Wu Ting had pulled a stunt like this.

Xiao Xixi didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. If Dr. Qin hadn’t arranged for his own patients, this would have been a wonderful turn of events. But now, the two groups were crammed together.

”What are we going to do?”

Qin Donglai thought for a moment.

”We only have two options now. The first is I swallow my pride, contact the lower-tier hospitals, and arrange to have the patients they just sent over sent back. The downside is I’ll definitely get an earful from the patients and their families, and I’ll lose a bit of face.”

”The second option is I invite specialists from other hospitals to come and assist with the surgeries. The problem is, on such short notice, they might not be able to make it right away. The schedule is just too tight. But I’ll have to swallow my pride and ask.”

The group discussed it and ultimately decided to go with the second option.

”Alright then. I’ll go contact some specialists to assist right away.”

”Luo Ming, you keep the patients and their families calm for now. I’ll do my best to get someone here to help put out this fire. No matter what, we have to endure this.”

”And when Wu Ting gets here, I’m going to have a serious talk with him. He needs to learn that you can have too much of a good thing.”
