Doctor: I Can Synthesize Infinite Entries

Chapter 105: Chapter 104: High Turnover! No Complications, Same-Day Discharge

When Xiao Xixi arrived at the duty office, she saw Yasui.

”Dr. An, when Dr. Wu comes by in a bit, tell him to come find me. We’ve admitted too many cholecystectomy patients recently. If this continues, we won’t have enough beds in the ward.”

”Based on the current surgical schedule, a post-op cholecystectomy patient needs at least three to five days before they can be discharged. If the ER admits any more patients, we won’t be able to turn the beds over.”

”I know our emergency department just got an operating room from the former thoracic surgery department, and Wu Ting is more than capable of handling things on his own. But you can’t just operate and then wash your hands of the patient, can you? We can’t add more beds for you, either. The medical staff can’t keep up; they’re already at full capacity.”

Although Xiao Xixi admired Wu Ting’s professional ability and respected his character, this was a matter of principle.

Hearing Xiao Xixi’s doubts and demands, Yasui remained unhurried. He said mysteriously:

”Sister Xiao, I had the same concern at first. But from last night until now, Cheng Feng and I have been monitoring the cholecystectomy patient from Dr. Wu and Director Huang’s latest surgery.”

”Following the evaluation metrics Dr. Wu gave us, we’ve been monitoring them for over ten hours straight. The patient’s various indicators show significant improvement compared to a conventional cholecystectomy.”

”All related complications have also been perfectly resolved.”

”Of course, this is just the first case, after all. Today, Dr. Wu and Director Huang will perform another six to eight surgeries, and we’ll follow up with monitoring and records.”

”If everything goes according to the prognosis for Dr. Wu and Director Huang’s brand-new surgical technique... for a patient who undergoes the ’Qi-Dynamic Ascending-Descending Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy’ that Dr. Wu pioneered, their gastrointestinal function should theoretically fully recover in six hours. After another six hours of observation, they can be discharged.”

”In other words, if the upcoming patients recover as expected, those who undergo the new surgical technique can basically be discharged on the same day.”

”Compared to the traditional three-to-five-day discharge time, with the recovery period of the new surgical technique, the number of these patients is completely manageable. In fact, as long as the operating rooms are available, we could even take on more!”

Yasui handed the chart with the latest observation metrics and monitoring methods to Xiao Xixi.

Xiao Xixi took it doubtfully. A look at the chart made her gasp.

”Isn’t this a bit of an exaggeration?”

Then, she felt a wave of pleasant surprise.

’If Dr. Wu’s experimental surgical technique is a success, doesn’t this mean we’ll have a revolutionary breakthrough in postoperative recovery and complication management for cholecystectomies!’

’A single patient bed could be turned over three times in the same period. That’s incredible!’

This wasn’t just a blessing for the patients; it was also a huge morale boost for the department’s medical staff.

To use an analogy, it was like a restaurant’s table turnover rate—selling one meal in an hour versus selling three. It would drastically reduce the customer’s wait time and massively increase the restaurant’s revenue!

With the whole pie getting bigger, the performance bonuses for all the medical staff in the emergency department would go up. Everyone would be thrilled!

If Wu Ting’s surgical technique could be popularized, especially in top-tier hospitals with strained medical resources, it would be a win-win for both patients and doctors.

”Good, good, good. Then you continue with this surgical technique. Contact me immediately if you need anything.”

Beaming, Xiao Xixi left the duty office.

A short while later, Cheng Feng also returned, bringing back the latest monitoring data.

”Yasui, Brother Ting really hit it out of the park this time. Based on the current monitoring, the patient has no complications at six hours and is fully recovered at twelve. At this rate, they’ll be discharged today. I’m really looking forward to the surgeries scheduled for today.”

”Yeah. When Luo Ming comes to take over the shift, we can both go observe in the operating room. I’m getting excited just thinking about it.”

”Look at the time. Today’s first surgery is about to start.”

Wu Ting and Director Huang arrived in the ward right on time to conduct final preoperative preparations.

The directors Qin Donglai had invited from the Military Hospital, Zhang Zhong and Jin Yu, had also arrived at City First Hospital.

Qin Donglai went to greet them personally.

Upon seeing Qin Donglai, his two old buddies started teasing him:

”Old Qin, you really dropped the ball this time. What’s going on? The great emergency surgery department of City First Hospital can’t even handle its cholecystectomies?”

”Exactly! And you even made me go through the trouble of screening cases to send your way.”

Zhang Zhong and Jin Yu were old friends of Qin Donglai.

After receiving Qin Donglai’s call for help, they had come to bail him out without a second thought, but a bit of verbal ribbing was unavoidable.

”We used to always be the ones inviting Old Qin to our hospital for freelance surgeries. It’s quite amusing for us to be coming to City First Hospital to save the day this time.”

Zhang Zhong and Jin Yu roared with laughter.

”After the surgeries are done, we’ll have to make Old Qin treat us to a good meal.”

The two directors’ teasing was also a way to ease Qin Donglai’s pressure. After all, this kind of situation wasn’t exactly something to be proud of.

Yesterday, Qin Donglai had been embarrassed, but now, his confidence was back.

”Thank you, my brothers, for coming to help me out. I won’t forget this gesture.”

Qin Donglai first expressed his gratitude, then said with a touch of pride:

”However, things have taken a bit of a turn. You two won’t need to operate personally today. Instead, I’d like to invite you to watch a good show.”

Qin Donglai checked the time; it was about right. He pulled the two men towards the operating room.

Zhang Zhong and Jin Yu exchanged a confused glance. What was Qin Donglai up to?

’Don’t tell me he invited some other big shots besides us?’

Well, since they were already here, they might as well see it through. The two prepared to go and see just what trickery was afoot in the operating room.

As Qin Donglai was leading Jin Yu and Zhang Zhong to the operating room, Lu Xuejun from Hepatobiliary Surgery happened to see them.

Lu Xuejun quickly put two and two together and thought that the emergency department had really made a fool of itself this time.

’They clearly don’t have the skills, yet they insist on taking on a job they can’t handle.’

’Poor Qin Donglai. He admitted so many patients but couldn’t handle the surgeries, so he had to invite outside help.’

’But really, why go through all this trouble?’

’That Wu Ting is still too young and reckless.’

After returning to his department, Lu Xuejun told his colleagues what he had seen—Qin Donglai bringing in outside surgeons.

The doctors in Hepatobiliary Surgery didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

”That Wu Ting was so confident when he took those patients, we thought he was really developing some new surgical technique. Who would’ve thought he couldn’t even handle the surgeries for the patients he admitted and had to call in outside help to be the lead surgeon.”

”He’s really brought shame upon himself this time.”

”I was just about to tell everyone to keep an eye out and transfer suitable patients to Emergency Surgery, but it looks like we’d better keep them in our own department.”

Lu Xuejun instructed his junior doctors.

He also sent a message to Wu Ting. It wasn’t too direct, and the wording was earnest:

”Dr. Wu, the first batch of patients was transferred to your Emergency Surgery department yesterday. You’ll need some time to work through them. So, I won’t be arranging any more for now. When you need more, contact me again, and I’ll fully cooperate.”

”The ERAS ward plan Director Cai mentioned is a long-term goal. Everyone in our department is very patient. Dr. Wu, in the field of cholecystectomy, you also need to proceed step-by-step and build a solid foundation. Don’t be too eager for quick success. We all know your capabilities and admire them.”

”My personal advice is not to be too aggressive, and be sure to communicate more with the seniors in your department.”

...

...

Inside the operating room.

The second surgery officially began.

Jin Yu, Zhang Zhong, Yasui, and Cheng Feng were all observing from the side.
