Chapter 113: Chapter 112: Invited to an Expert Consultation at the First Affiliated Hospital of Jinggang University

This trip to Xiao City had been incredibly rewarding!

After his visit to City First Hospital, Professor Ma planned to help guide Wu Ting’s team in refining their research framework. The ultimate goal was to establish a national expert consensus!

Listening to Professor Ma’s plan was a revelation for everyone present.

It just went to show that in the medical field, you had to get out and see the world. Working in isolation just wouldn’t cut it.

Professor Ma truly lived up to his reputation as a top expert from Jiuhua Hospital. With just a few words, he had pointed Wu Ting’s project in a grand new direction. It went from being about a single, isolated surgical technique to a cutting-edge topic that could lead industry trends and align with the National Health Commission’s development goals!

”Wu Ting, you can discuss your concepts for same-day surgery with my doctoral student, Ling Ling.”

Professor Ma chatted a bit more with Wu Ting, Huo Yun, and the others before bringing up another matter.

”Dr. Wu, my schedule for this trip to Xiao City is packed. Tomorrow morning, I have to go to the Emergency Department at Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital for a surgical consultation.”

”Are you interested in joining me for this consultation? I can also introduce you to a few experts from Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital.”

Professor Ma intended to give Wu Ting a boost, while also taking the opportunity to interact more with the young man and size him up.

To Professor Ma, a platform like City First Hospital meant nothing. The current project was merely a vehicle to support his own cutting-edge theories. If he truly wanted to conduct this research, there were countless top-tier teams and platforms eager to collaborate with him.

What Professor Ma valued was Wu Ting himself.

Huo Yun, Cai Qi, and Jiang Ming also realized that Professor Ma’s entire visit to Fan City First Hospital was for Wu Ting.

And they adjusted their own attitudes accordingly.

Huo Yun immediately said, ”Wu Ting, this is a great opportunity for you, being able to join Professor Ma’s consultation. Make sure to listen and learn as much as you can. Stay here in Xiao City tomorrow and follow Professor Ma’s arrangements. We’ll head back to Fan City first to prepare for his visit.”

Cai Qi and Jiang Ming could only smile politely, unable to say much.

Professor Ma glanced at the time. He had another director to meet with next, so he cut the small talk short.

”Wu Ting, then we’ll see each other tomorrow morning at Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital. I’ll have Ling Ling contact you with the specifics.”

”Director Huo, I’ll have to trouble you then. See you at Fan City First Hospital!”

Professor Ma exchanged some pleasantries with Huo Yun. Cai Qi and Jiang Ming trailed behind them, and after flashing professional smiles, they all left Professor Ma’s hotel room together.

The four of them had just stepped out when Director Jin Yu from Xianglin City Xuanshang University Affiliated Hospital walked in.

He came face to face with Huo Yun’s group and was greatly surprised.

’Looks like the team from Fan City First Hospital really landed a major project this time.’

Jin Yu exchanged contact information with Huo Yun. It looked like he, too, would have to follow Professor Ma to City First Hospital to observe and learn a thing or two.

...

...

In the director’s office of the Emergency Department at Xiao City Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital.

Shen Guofeng was talking with his doctoral student, Yan Xi.

”Go organize the file for the patient in bed 4, print a few copies, and prepare a PowerPoint presentation. Tomorrow morning, I’ll be holding a consultation with Professor Ma Mengchao from Qinghe City and the Director of Hepatobiliary Surgery, Shen Xiaofei.”

Yan Xi nodded obediently. She was the doctor in charge of the patient in bed 4, whose case was highly unusual.

Patient: male, 57 years old. Admitted with a seven-day history of right upper quadrant abdominal pain, which had worsened over the past four hours and was accompanied by chills and a high fever.

Seven days prior, the patient experienced right upper quadrant pain with jaundice. His recent stools were clay-colored. Four hours ago, the pain returned as a persistent, colicky ache in the right upper quadrant, accompanied by chills and a high fever, with his temperature peaking at 38.6°C.

He had a history of gallstones for over ten years, with several bouts of cholecystitis that had resolved with anti-inflammatory treatment. This time, however, his condition was particularly severe.

The preliminary diagnosis was gallbladder perforation leading to a liver abscess.

If confirmed, it was a rare complication of both acute and chronic gallbladder disease and had a very high mortality rate.

Even a department like the one at Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital rarely saw such cases.

It just so happened that Professor Ma Mengchao was in Xiao City for an academic exchange, so Shen Guofeng and Shen Xiaofei invited him over for a consultation.

The goals were to confirm the diagnosis and to formulate a suitable treatment plan.

Until a definitive treatment plan could be established, the patient was receiving preliminary symptomatic treatment, including antibiotics and antipyretics.

”Oh, right, for this consultation, Professor Ma mentioned he’s bringing a young doctor to participate. Prepare an extra copy of the file.”

”A young doctor?”

Yan Xi was curious. ’Bringing a junior doctor to such an important joint consultation... that’s very telling.’

Shen Guofeng added,

”This young doctor is incredibly skilled. He’s already developed several new surgical techniques at such a young age. I heard that at the annual conference, Professor Ma ignored everyone else and specifically took a few minutes to chat with him. Afterward, he even invited the young man to his hotel room for an in-depth discussion.”

”If all goes well, Professor Ma will recommend his project for a national-level science foundation grant.”

”You should get his contact information tomorrow, too. It’ll be a good learning opportunity for you.”

Shen Guofeng himself was quite curious about just who this remarkable young doctor could be.

”He’s that amazing!”

Yan Xi was filled with admiration. A doctor who could land a national-level science foundation grant was truly something else.

”Speaking of which, that Dr. Wu Ting you introduced me to before is also quite impressive. The young doctors these days really make you feel the pressure.”

At a place like Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital, you constantly encountered all sorts of prodigies. It often made Yan Xi feel utterly ordinary.

”Dr. Wu is quite outstanding, especially in terms of clinical talent. However, the doctor Professor Ma is bringing tomorrow is on a completely different level.”

”After all, Wu Ting isn’t fully developed yet. I’m very optimistic about his potential, but he still has a long way to go before he’s valued by someone like Professor Ma and can land a national-level science foundation grant.”

”After all, a hospital like City First Hospital is ultimately too small a stage. If he could come to our hospital to be honed and tested, he might have a chance to truly take flight.”

Speaking of Wu Ting, Professor Shen held him in high regard but felt it was a shame.

”On that note, Wu Ting could definitely stand to upgrade his academic credentials. When the time is right, I’ll talk to him about coming here for graduate studies and advanced training in our department.”

’A raw gem like Wu Ting is worth polishing carefully!’

...

...

「The next morning.」

Dr. Ling Ling contacted Wu Ting.

Ling Ling wore a white shirt and casual black pants that accentuated her youthful, energetic figure.

Carrying a backpack and holding a file folder, Ling Ling waved at Wu Ting.

”Dr. Wu, you’re right on time. Come on, we’re heading to the Emergency Building at Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital. Professor Ma needs to visit the hospital leadership first, so he told us to go on ahead to the conference room.”

Wu Ting followed Ling Ling. The pair—a handsome man and a beautiful woman—drew quite a few glances.

Before long, they arrived at the Emergency Department’s conference room.

This was Wu Ting’s first time at Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital. As the top hospital in Jin Province, it would be a lie to say he didn’t aspire to be here.

’I never thought I’d get to join Professor Ma for such a high-level expert consultation. It’s a real honor.’

’I hope a few more entries drop during today’s consultation. A single one from experts of this caliber would be a lifelong benefit.’
